In my first had experience i don't think and thing is comparable to it. But i think the Leopard 2 is a close second tho with its ability to travel underwater and the challenger 2 is a close third.
This is not a fair comparison first of all the M1 was used until 1985 we know use the M1A2SEP "System Enhancement Package" but the M1A2 is 68.4 Tons and much heavier armor 120mm was first put on the M1A1 and hasn't been replaced yet just upgraded and i believe there are 1,500 M1A2 and M1A2SEP currently possibly more Plus i have been to other country and seen alot of other Tanks.
well i would argue that the challenger 2 is the best in the world because 1. it has a rifled barrel with allows the shells to fire more accurately while the Leopard 2 has a smooth barrel 2. The Challenger 2 has the best composite armor and their record has shown very few casualties during service. Although i might be mistaken since the Leopard 2 has the unusual feature of traveling underwater which opens more options in the terrain its able to pass through.
All of the armor listed is great and if you compared apples to apples it would basically come down to numbers, strategy and the experience of the crews on the battlefield. Ultimately none of this armor is worth a flip without air support and that's where America rules.
I agree with Leo 2 being on top,but you are short changing the Abrams,granted the turbine engine is a bit of a crutch,but as a whole package the Abrams is a better tank than Challenger 2.

There's always been a debate about which tank is better; the M1A1 - L2 and C2. Simply put, the M1A1 has armour copied from the older UK Chobham armour, while it's main weapon is a Rheinmetal production. It's armour is a British design and it's gun is a German design! The L2 uses similar armour to the newer Dorchester design the British use, making it as tough as the C2, while it's main weapon is at least as effective as the C2. I would say the L2 & C2 are a very close match, difficult to decide!

The rifled gun on the Challenger is also superior to the A2s smoothbore gun over long distances ...
@MrSquaky Due to the accuracy of the rifled gun over long distances it can engage targets and destroy before it can be engaged and it is the fastest off road tank around. So I would say the Challenger is much better.
M1a2 is the fastest tank it can reach up to 70mph. Yeah the Chally has a more accurate gun, but it also fires a weak AFPDS Tank round at low muzzle velocity. The M1a2 Abrams uses the Saboat Round which is the most powerful tank round today and it fires that round at almost twice the Muzzle velocity as what the Chally2 shoots, resolving in a more damage.
The M1A2 Abrams is powered by a 1,500 shaft horsepower (1,100 kW) Honeywell AGT 1500 (originally made by Lycoming) multi-fuel turbine, and a six speed Allison X-1100-3B Hydro-Kinetic automatic transmission, giving it a governed top speed of 45 mph (72 km/h) on paved roads, and 30 mph (48 km/h) cross-country. Al Faw was also taken with the help of the Royal Marine Commandos.

Look your totally off one you have to base how good the manufacture is, armor, mm size, size of tank in general, how many shells it can give off in a minute, how well the crew are trainded, and how fast they can fire off a shot. How produced and what mounts it has also showing if it has had in mods done to it!
Note: T-90 should only be on the list when in capable (read: crazy Russians) hands. Only they know how to operate them properly. Counts for any Russian made tank, really. Look at Irak, their Russian Made tanks were all destroyed, because they didn't drive them properly...
@laurensreinds Correction, the T-72 were Iraqi ASSAD BABIL, not the real Russian T-72 with "Dolly Parton" classified composite armor. The Iraqi T-72 used very short propellant rods that were put out of service since 1973.
