  • fuck all men who don't like this.............your so stupid.

  • Ry is, if nothing else, unique in his music style. I've heard a lot of music in 60 years, and some a little like Cooder, but nothing absolutely like his. It's not about good or bad, it's really about what you like. The man is a genius in music especially when you take in all the movie sound tracks he's done plus his world wide involvement in music around the globe. And it all has his signature sound.

  • Some things only get better with time...fine wine and Ry Cooder

  • omg this sucks.

  • @Gonko100 Just how does it suck?? Groove too solid? Too much of that there syncopation for your ears? Additive rhythms confusing you? Can't relate to the trope they are signifying on? C'mon, tell me, HOW does it "suck", and what would you do to make it not "suck"? As you so succinctly put it?

There just is no accountin for taste...

  • @Gonko100 It ain't Celine Dion.

  • @MMRD50

    well it ain't tool either.

  • @Gonko100 well go back and listen to Kylie Minogue and feast on McDonalds gourmet....you obviously dont even a have an inkling of soul or appreciation of real music

  • ry is the king

  • I am getting deeper into Ry's music everyday, after listening and falling in love with "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live" and "Vigilante Man" and also the BVSC album, I have to say that I feel so good now that I discovered this song, It's unbelievable how talented Ry Cooder is ,It's such a big inspiration for life! Music with soul !

  • @rebrush - who cares what Rolling Stone says? Or any other silly "Mass" survey? You cannot rank these talented people against each other. They ranked Kurt Cobain way up on the list above many true guitar masters. I mean, I loved Kurt, but come ON.....

  • "Bop til you Drop" remains one of my favourite Ry Cooder albums of all time. This is great. Thx for sharing....

  • @rocktenniscat bop til you drop is musically OK...but destroyed by being early digital recording that sounds like brittle glass with no harmonic warmth and this aint no audiophile bullshit

  • jbt, ovaj kuder uvjek nešto

  • @Gloojo HAHAHAHA! Bogme da.

  • Only just discovered Ry Cooder - Can't believe I have never heard of such a talented man before now! Fantastic music.

  • My all time favorite album Ever Bob till you drop! This live version is even better. And im from 1981 This music is universial

  • Thanks for posting and supporting this genuine, creative, pure artist. There is everything in here: skills and modesty, depth and fun, good music and entertainment, white roots and black roots, and even - let me say - social commitment.

  • @svacan Not believing my eyes,....NO ONE alive feels like that, what you said, but me. Don't know You, but I Like You! IF we had more committed artists like this, these days,.......the world would be a better place, bands would tour again, and kids wouldn't be killing each other over a sack of weed. ...LIKE IT WAS BACK IN THE 70's, and 80's. You ROCK.

  • Back in "88, I saw Ry Cooder do a live outdoor concert in Stockholm- he had Flaco Jimenez and the amazing black guys chorus. The Swedes were hoppin' and boppin'. One of the best shows I ever saw.

  • Goddamn Boy you sure can swing that axe!!

  • What a song!

  • This is the first time I've heard Ry Cooter & he's good!

  • "On fire" is exactly what they is!!!

  • A master at work here ! Thank you for posting mbroders.

  • I feel fortunate to having seen this tour when they played Wolfgangs in SF. Went both nights. I have pictures to prove it!

  • Holy Chihuahua! Thats Flaco in there!

  • Hi I'm 17 I love Ry cooder's music

I'm surrounded by plenty of relationships that fit what this song expresses. Sheer brilliance

    He gotta lot of soul!

  • I hate it when rich white guys pretend to be black

  • @Rikk303

ur a douchebag. this guy has more soul than all the black people i know put together.

  • @shazbot9000 The Balinese play some fine soulful music albeit a little less hysterical

  • @shazbot9000 quite a condescending remark but you'll have to live with the embarassment of it you left-wing scheister asshole

  • @Rikk303

How do you feel when no-talent black guys try to act rich?

  • @gripguy41 the same way as I do when any jerk-off gets an undeserved windfall

  • @Rikk303

And that "undeserved windfall" would be what? Cooder has been playing blues for a bunch of years and millions of people have recognized his talent and innovation, so what is it that you find so distasteful about him? FWIW, I don't like some of his stuff, but whether you like his style or not, he's a damn talented musician.

  • @gripguy41 he's well rehearsed and has a bit of a flair but if you play guitar all day everyday, you achieve a certain proficiency.I don't find anything distasteful about the guy (no idea how you read that in)....he plays as well as any local muso that knows some tricks and licks.Personally I think "Tamp it up Slowly" was his finest moment, but I know someone who does it better even if it's a derivitive version of a railroad chant

  • @Rikk303 Tamp It Up Slowly??

  • @Rikk303 jealous little prick!

  • @BarkingEggplant you took your time getting on the bandwagon

  • @Rikk303 Yeah...took me 3 months to come up with that line.

  • @BarkingEggplant it took 3 months for Captain Beefy to tell Ry how he should tackle a G

  • @Rikk303 Bullshit...

  • ry will never be the president of america. he,s too good.

  • jävligt bra

  • Keltner and Cooder are an unstoppable and unbeatable (no pun intended) force. Great post! THANK YOU

  • This is the essence of musical expression. The drummer is a friend of mine and one of the best drummers I've ever had the pleasure of playing with. This is classic. Everybody one on the same page. God bless music for it's ability to free us all!

  • @Gevschek your mate is Jim Keltner? lucky man... fav drummer of all time!

  • Awesome! wish I'd been there ^_^ ThnXXX for sharing!

  • i bought the album "bop to you drop" when it first came out, i have loved every thing that he has done since then and before. he is a remarkbale muscian. respect him and compare him to no one other, he truly is a man ofgifted talents and everyone who loves guitar should listento him. the man loves to play

  • @rwwelch56 j think you are right,he is among the best guitarists who ever lived(specially slide) but unlucky me i dont think he comes to sweden,j had to see him when j go to usa

  • excellent

    bp

  • Hotter than a fifty dollar pistol.

  • Has anyone noticed how similar this song is to 'The Road to Hell Part 1' by Chris Rea?

  • Pleas someone upload the late 70's album bop till you drop, leaves these for dead

  • cAN SOMEONE PLEASE UPLOAD THE STUDIO VERSION, SO MUCH BETTER

  • his sound is simply brilliant...i love He'll Have To Go...from him

  • Ry Cooder Blues

  • The opening of this is soo magical -he manages to transend the two generations of father to son, as though it were the most natural thing in the world. I love how all the musicians look as though their genuinly enjoying themselves, with their quirky dances and smiles beaming from their faces! fantastic stuff!

    yes ah did!

    wow .... moooooooves

    just incredible

  • Ry cooder 'LIVE", i had it on tape, great! School was out

  • I used to have a German EP with four (or six?) live tunes, circa mid-80s, that had great version of "Jesus on the Mainline" and KILLER version of "Look at Granny Run." Sadly, I lost it (and all my vinyl) when I lost my storage unit. If any Cooder fan ever finds this bit of vinyl, grab it at any price; you won't be disappointed!

  • i sell it to you for 5 million euros :-))

  • I have this on vinyl and CD. Ry Cooder is simply one of the hippest musicians on today's music scene.

  • I tried to find this online, but haven't been able to find the CD. Any suggestions? I was looking under Ry Cooder, but maybe I should've searched for the band.

  • "Bop Till You Drop" was a GREAT release!! Love this song! Thanks!

  • I think i will make Ry Cooder my religion...

Love this man and his Music...

Amen..The very thing that makes you rich..

    makes you poor!....

Cross my Heart i love his music so deeply

  • Rocker53zero,Yes this is a great one! You nailed it this time baby! I love it! Just what I needed to hear on a dreary Sunday afternoon Hugs & Kisses from the USA to Ireland XXXXO

  • One of my favourite vinyl Albums of all (still in pristine condition) is Ry Cooder - Bop Till You Drop - it has this song on it and the rest are all just as brilliant.

  • You are absolutely right " B T Y D " is a masterpeice. First time I reallized how funky Ry can be was after he cut BTYD.

  • Hey mate I just checked out your favourites and I see you are a Little Feat fan it's just prompted me to dig out my old 'Waiting for Columbus' album. They were a great band - they didn't really get the recognition over here in Australia they deserved.

  • does he have a website?

  • anyone heard Ry and someone else playing " do you want my job? " i can't seem to find it.

  • Little Village--Ry Cooder, John Hiatt, Jim Keltner, Nick Lowe, et al. You tube might have it posted.

  • ok..thanks.

  • Look on the David Lindley website, Family Affair is the album, that song is the final encore, great song, great album

  • Very true words by ry cooter, women can not be trusted. They will try to use you one way or another.

  • Just back from his Edinburgh gig. Was expecting it to be watered down dad-rock. Turns out his voice, which has sounded a bit underwhelming on recent releases, is even better than it was in the 70s. Brilliant performer, and it's a crime that this concert film hasn't been released on DVD.

  • I know you have many vidz of Ry but have you any memories of his gigs in Europe? I know he played with the Buena Vista tour, did you get to see this or any others. I once tried to shake hands with him at the Apollo in Manchester, he merely put his hands together and bowed , lesson being, never try to shake hands with a guitarist, they don't know how strong your grip is! Take care

  • Ry doesn't seem to tour so much these days, I know David Lindley has stopped overseas touring except perhaps with Jackson Brown, all the good ones are becoming stay at homes. I know Ry Cooder has a new double album to promote and there is a DVD that has been released perhaps he'll come to Australia for a short tour.Keep wishing.

  • Ry is touring Europe this month with Nick Lowe and his son Joachim Cooder. Very good reviews - look them up!

  • Thanx, please read my post of 5 days ago!!!

  • Duh! :-)

  • @PLEEMHEAD7

Yes, the great ones should have an exemption from getting old and tired :-)

  • First saw Ry in the '80s and many times since, he NEVER disappoints, the ultimate professional and a true master of his instrument, others rely on tricks and distortion with Ry you get the real deal. Booked to see him with Nick Lowe and Flaco in Gateshead next month, I can hardly wait

  • You are SO lucky !

Wish he would make it to Aus' soon

  • Go home girl is just classic if you have had that best friends girl haning on your every word. Chokes me up even now

  • RY...The Master Slide! I Love every song on "Bop 'Till You Drop" My favorite song of all time is "Teardrops Will Fall"

  • First concert in my life I was 8 or 9 years old it was in Marseille 1979 or 80. It's a pleasure to see this again ... particulary this one !!!!! Long live to good music

  • Keltner is amazing!!

  • even the footwork is impeccable

the moula aces are simply awesome!

  • Eat your heart out Britney.

  • ry cooder rules !

  • ja, det swinger - godt set!

  • This is great! What happened to Bobby King and Willie Green?

  • Pure and Rich...Love this whole mob...they love playing music together...it shows...accordionist always smiles:-)

  • Ahhhh, Ry. So good, I almost forgot HOW good.

  • Excellent, I will smoke another bowl & listen to this again! Ry Cooder Fuckin Rocks!

  • @icast4majors If you need to smoke another bowl, you're smoking fucking schwag.

  • Great song! Thanks!

  • I think the Rolling Stones did in fact burn Ry and it made him bitter, but he overcame it and moved on. Warren Haynes plays a good slide too, as did Brian Jones. Ry's studio version of this song is absolute killer.

  • Killer!

  • How very True..

    Great Track. Love it..

  • OOOOOOOOOOO he can spank that guitar!!!

  • Its just to good full stop!

  • Ry Cooder is the shit.

Lowell George, may the good lord rest his soul, was the shit.

  • Simly Great !!!

  • Is there anyone Kelter has not played for? Go pick an album you love from your collection & check who the drummer is....50/50 chance it's Jim.

  • if there's a guitarist i'd like to play like it's ry

  • These men got rhythm, really marvellous. Cooder and friends forever.

  • A talent that's been around for a long time yet is unknown by so many. The only thing better is when he plays with David Lindley

  • I'll second that, brother!

  • I love this song!!

  • The best rhythm duo in the business ever! Ry and Jim Keltner on the 2:33. That's fuckin'crazy....!!!!!!

  • One of the most underated guitarist's around

  • I just found Ry, so is Ry Cooder the white guy?

  • Bop till you drop showed me the way...

haven't put down my strat since...

  • THIS IS AWESOME THANKS FOR POSTING!!!

  • respect man!!! just love ry!! stay kooooooool

  • What a great song...Ry is the best

  • This song is so dam' hot. It's just everything in it....you just can't stand still when listening....

  • Cool dude in a loose mood...great song one my favorite of Ry's..

  • That IS MUSIC. AWESOME! Great musicians, great performances.

  • Just loooove it...Strong, soft, and sooo smooth!!!!

  • shivers down spine, and bitten bottom lip listening to this..

Fuck me, this is pure class.

  • Iv/

    ,

  • Deepest thanks to Mikkel for posting all these songs from this tour of such talented and genuine musicians...And thanks to Ry for making it all happen!

  • Fantastic!! Had this on video from way back when C4 showed the whole film in the UK one night. Lent the tape out and never got it back :-( thanks so much for posting.

  • One amazing thing about RC is that he is so unflashy. One of the best ever in the genre but never shows off.

  • When Cooder and Keltner are on the stage it don't get much better than that!! Legand!!

  • WOW

  • I've known Ry for quit a while now. This song has such groove... always have to play it loud! It digs deep into my soul and it makes me feel really good... play on Ry...!

    Marc

  • This is some serious shit.. Is he is in open A tuning??

  • Eb6/C minor - guitar is initially in open D tuning. ry raises string 2(A) to B you'd call this tuning D6/B minor. he then capos at 1st fret which gives you Eb6/C minor. i'm calling it C minor cause he's definitely working off C- as opposed to Ebmaj ... once you get guitar tuned correctly all the stuff he's playing falls right off the neck - unfortunately that doesn't address his right hand! huge part of ry's style. gotta' play alot of blake, spence, etc etc to get a handle on that aspect ...

  • I've been listening to this since the very beginning... 1979... I tell my Ukrainian wife Katya, it's why I'm still here 17 years later ;-) God bless Ry... Kickin' BOOTY!

  • When we were looking for the CD the store manager said it was sold out. I literally found it on my knees in a dusty stack.

If you need a copy I can burn a DVD for Bop Til You Drop and send it.

  • Long live Ry .. an American master and one of the most versatile performers ever IMO .. !

  • A few months ago there was another live vid of this song with such a great funky part in the middle. Its gone! Anybody out there who can help me?

  • Bop Till You Drop album,1979./original song/

  • Thanks for posting mroders. Bluespower's sent me here and I thank him for it ;)
