This is probably my favourite Kim wilde song. So underrated. I would have never discovered it if it wasn't for an old worn out cassette of now thats what I call music 4...
Kim wilde is a fucking physical patient who must bu shut up and closed up in jail, she' cant sing an is only polluting the whole music-buisiness!! If she'll die I'll make this day into a fester-day!!
I saw the pilot episode of a rubbish programme called The Misfits of Science (starring a very young Courtney Cox) at some point in the 80s and vaguely remembered this song from it. Thanks to the wonder of YouTube and Google videos I have, nearly 30 years later, finally figured out what the song is. Thanks.
@Raff3000 Also was used in a Season 4 episode of Knight Rider called Knight Racer, Ironically, when they aired the song on both Knight Rider and Misfits Of Science they were aired just weeks apart and they were both on Fridays during the 85-86 season along Miami Vice. It could've been a great lineup but the people NBC aired it to (tweens, teens, college adults) didn't have the time to watch, so both shows were axed after the season.
A great song from the 80ies (and one of kim's best). powerful and strong! the sound reminds me a bit of frankie goes to hollywood's rage hard and relax. also those songs were modern and very ahead of its time.
Does anyone get what's supposed to happen in the very end of the video. Something boiling out of a locker? I would like to know because I don't think you can see the whole end of the musicvideo.
AWESOME Song!!! Kim definitely ruled the music industry up to the mid '80 especially in Europe.
I used to be a big fan of Kim Wilde back in the '80s. The Teases & Dares album was one of her best anyways. The vids at that period of time were also incredibly ingenious and not that stupid as nowadays.
OK teddy I wrote before I read your take on it. Mad Max/post apocalyptic fair enough, but I´m interested in the multicoloured outfit. It has to originate from somewhere. Like Watchmen or something.
Nope, this was before all this "cosplay" thing. I guess one may see inspiration from Star Trek, V for Victory, and the likes, but there do not seem to be any "one great inspiration" as far as i know.
I might be wrong, though...
I'ts a bit of pity that this isn't the full video, neither in the start or the beginning.
Curious?
The "gladiator" is knocked out on the bed, in the trashed hotelroom, and she sits in a chair looking bored, and a bit annoyed ....
Just go for it... just go for the second time... Just go... Did you know that K.W. really wanted to do backup on most records? I personally was born to be a backup singer... :-)
@benanderson88 Are you sure you know what I'm talking about? The sound I have in mind barely lasts half a second, and if it's the word "go," then it's a different treatment of all the other occurrences of the word "go" in the song. To me it doesn't sound like a word at all, but a very Wookiee-like growl.
@benanderson88 No, I don't mean that; the sound I'm talking about is very faint (by comparison) and only lasts a second or so. Listen carefully at 3:19.
But oh yeah, Kim and her team knew howto work them synths!
I remember the first time hearing this song I said,"This isn't any good. How can anyone like this? It's crappy music." By the 3rd or 4th listen, a couple or so weeks later, I said,"Holy shit!!! I love this song!" It hit me like a ton of bricks.
Right at 3:19, just as the multicolored mummy is smashing through the wall; am I daft or do I hear Chewbacca roaring? I've heard that in the song for years, but am I correct?
I'm sure I remember this song being in the video they played us at school to tell us all about periods - am I imagining this, or did anyone else see that one?
The very first time I heard this song, I was far from impressed. But after the 3rd, maybe 4th max, listen a few days or so later, my mind completely changed! It struck me so hard! I was very impressed and felt really stupid for not initially liking this song. Now, obviously, I love this song! This was a long time ago. Not the only Kim song that came about that way either. Some were instantly appealing. Some took me 3 or 4 listens. But when it struck me, it fuckin' struck me! Hard!
@AustinsGurl90 That outfit in the "Suburbs Of Moscow" video on YouTube... One of her best. watch?v=06BI5B9a9DY One of them among many. If you only knew from a guy's perspective... Too much to explain. Kim is hot! Ha ha. :D
Long live the 80's!!!!!! especially the mid eighties were the utmost!!! Kim Wilde is simply my favourite female singer...I love her hairdo and I love her amazing voice. This video reminds me of Mad Max film (sigh). I'm so in love with the 80's
For those of you who were curious about the "look" of this video, here's a little perspective. Kim's whole Teases and Dares album has kind of an industrial feel to it, so I think MCA (or whoever) decided the Blade Runner/post-apocalyptic look would go with the sound of the album. Plus, in the mid-80s, post-apocalyptic-looking stuff was pretty popular in movies and videos (Mad Max, Terminator, etc.).
Enough perspective. Kim is one of my favorite artists, and I love this song. And I love her.
It's a long time ago I heard this song. I think I even recorded it on a musictape back then. Almost forgot about this song, thanks for posting it. Kim Wilde is one of my favourite female singers and she did make a couple of good songs over the years.
I love this song. It's a timeless pop song, which will appeal to fans of quality pop music. This song is completely different from modern pop trash. It's amazing how good pop music was in the 80s and early 90s. Please, make more music like this!
I really like her Teases & Dares album, but I must honestly admit I don't understand the point of the tracks on it. Though, I really like them all! Can anyone inform me about The second time video, The Touch video and point me out what's all about? Why is Kim looking on the album cover mysterious, feathered and like Startrek? I'm Dutch - I can't lay my hands for 100% on the meaning
The only sense I can make of her strange attire during Teases & Dares was that Kim's managers thought it would be helpful to change her girl-next-door persona of her first three albums into a sexy disco tart, to keep up with the dance music of the time. Also, the music video was a relatively new medium and people were still experimenting (see Thriller), and 1984 was an eccentric year for fashion. By '86, "Another Step," Wilde finds a better balance of her true self and pop sensibilities, IMO.
The new image wasn't a hit and within a couple of months even Kim was saying how crap she looked. From what I remember the image was designed to go with this single and video.
MCA then turned round and said they didn't have time to come up with an image for the album, despite Kim' s complaints so they carried on with 'The Second Time' image for the album artwork.
A US dance single back in 1985 and it was on our MTV for a minute or two. I never heard this record until now. It is a great song for the club/disco scene but unfitting for US pop radio, it peaked at #65 on the Hot 100.
Pardom me while I gay out for a moment. But in this video when the guy busts through the wall in slow motion and you can see his basket bouncing. I can't tell you how happy that made me as a closeted teenager...lol.. I love Kim..she was so beautiful. Love live the 80's :)
my favorite kim wilde song. she is hot dayummmm. when i was like 16 years old i thought she was the hottest thing on earth. saw her live on tv and her bewbs were bouncing like there was no tomorrow lol.
Lol @ "sex on legs"...haha. Agreed. She was my 80's bedroom poster girl. Got a large poster of her transferred onto board at a photo store. Very nice it was too.
Now THAT was good. Great song, beautiful girl and an unravelling mummy. What more do you need in a video? Since it's 1984 the answer is nothing, the early 80's had lot's of these campy videos. We loved every one of them - the campier the better! Good catchy tune. Kim has stepped out of her regulur clothes and is now sporting a rollerball uniform and sexy jacket and skirt. Very HOT! I've loved her since 1981 so I think the mummy she rolls around the arena wall at 3:05 represents my heart.
Thanks onecharmingbastard! I remembered hearing this song on the Rock Over London radio show... surely never in regular rotation. I remembered the business about how it was kind of a smutty song, and that it was written by Kim's bro' and dad. But I couldn't ever find it under the title "Go For It." You and the Google have saved me from the agony of not knowing. You da man!
here in granadaland where i live north west england they used to randomly show a current pop video in the afternoon to fill some time in the afternoon i remeber them showing this and also mirror man by human leauge
love kim wilde this track was good pitty it got used in a shite american film missfits of science with a very young courtney cox in it and the the guy from the original predator film . no not arnie the predator
The best thing from the 80s was sheena easton and kim wildes look the hair the makeup the clothes and the music all packed together... What we lack today is real music videos like these. Now its just well.. there isnt a word for it.(its like after you eat a jar of mayo with bannas and drink warm beer) But music and the scene was more tasteful back then YAY 80s!
It's a rare occasion that I feel the need to get up out of my chair and dance around the room. But this video had that effect on me. But I think this song is like a "location joke", you had to be there in 1984 to truly appreciate it. This was one of my favorite remixed 12" singles.
Kimmy darling, you're singing the battle cry of sexed-up women everywhere. it should've been subtitled 'if you roll over and go to sleep I'll remove your nadgers with a spoon'
Here the real 80's, thanks...

Oh, we are getting a littlebit touchy?
How come Kim Wilde has got no weak points?
She's an ordinary human being with good and bad things like everyone else on this world.
It seems you're blind for positive critizm :-)
Just because her name is Kim everuthing she does is always perfect? Get realistic!

I am realistic. Kim is really Hot and Beautiful and Talented. She's the perfect girl. No weak points! Just look at her! Perfection! End of story. :)

It seems that the people here can't stand any critism about Kim?! Bit touchy.
I think it would be okay to discuss her good points and the weak parts of her music!
Just because her name is Kim Wilde doesn't mean you have to agree with all the things she does!!!!

Kim Wilde is a Beautiful Goddess! She has no weak points to discuss. And yes - I DO have to agree with all the things she does! :)

In the future this video will thought of as sacred text. We have not as yet reached the full understanding of what is going on here.

You da man!

This reminds me of 9th grade. But the thing is I was in the 9th grade during the 1993-1994 school year. But for some reason it reminds me of it.

SeaBassTian 3 years ago 4
Hey, SeaBassTian, I was there in '84 and I get the "joke." The bassline was the bomb then (IMO still is!).

Kimmy darling, you're singing the battle cry of sexed-up women everywhere. it should've been subtitled 'if you roll over and go to sleep I'll remove your nadgers with a spoon'
