The next day they opened fire at anyone and everyone. Binay and the police tried to get them out. They are a murderous bunch going into the Makati business district where they are supposed to be fighting the NPA and Muslim insurgents in the provinces. Asshole military should know civilians are the bosses!

@JemRau Technically mas ginagaya yung MSSR or Marine Scout Sniper Rifle nung marines. 5.56 is no no for sniper or any use except squirrel and rabbits IMHO.
MSSR = Modified M16A4 so mas malapit kasi yung SR25 medyo mas maraming binago.
@christlubas The MSSR is actually very effective in the Philippines' setting. Marines are often engaged in close quarters combat in the jungles, usually no more than 300 meters. They need a rifle that can shoot more precisely than the M16 in that range and hence the MSSR was born. Besides, the MSSR fires the same 5.56 round and incorporates the same parts as does the rest of their M16s so there's no problem in terms of logistics.
@christlubas My wife's cousin (a sniper instructor in 4ID, PA) once told me that the 5.56 is nastier than the 7.62 in terms of stopping a man. The 7.62 is more powerful but it pierces right through a man like an ice pick at 2,000+ fps. The 5.56 on the other hand tumbles in flight and creates a nasty wound, especially when the bullet fragments upon hitting human tissue at 3,000+ fps. So neither one is inadequate. Choosing the gun depends entirely upon the sniper's mission.
@christlubas In my opinion, the marines created the 5.56 MSSR out of the need to come very close to the enemy and shoot him exactly in the eye. They also thought they might want to take him down without the bullet penetrating his body and hitting someone or something behind they don't want harmed. Sometimes they don't need excess stopping power. Nonetheless, the marines have all types of sniper weapon systems - 5.56, 7.62 (.308), and 12.7 (.50-cal) - to choose from, depending on the mission.
the idea of hitting the eye of a person is pretty much full of scientific bullcrap and will rarely be a good idea.
For our jungles,M16 is not the weapon at all, We need the M14 or Garand again since A:We need much better penetration and B:We need Stopping power with that penetration.
@christlubas The M14 and garand are long and heavy guns, not good for carrying around in the hot, humid, tight, and mountainous jungles. They also have high recoil. Plus these wooden guns tend to be a inaccurate when their wood stocks are wet. That's the reason why the M16 replaced them. The .50cal is used for antimaterial and very long range shots. Yes the .50 is excessive if you use it at close range. But like I said, they have different guns with different calibers for different missions. :)
@d0dgeball fiber glass stocks exist and i bet these soldiers don't lug body armor around and they are soldiers.Are these soldiers too sissy to carry a Garand or an M14? and the M14 is even available in smaller versions.
The M16 is good if you can get head shots all day but in the jungle, this rarely even occurs.
@christlubas If you ask me, soldiers won't look sissy carrying an M14 but they look stupid if they have Garands. Garands are about 1 kg heavier than the M14 and about 1 inch longer. They fire the .30-06 rounds which has way too much firepower. Them .30-06 rounds are heavy and you could carry only about a hundred of those if you wanna fight through the jungle for weeks. Furthermore, the garand has 8-round clips which cannot be reloaded unless you fire all 8 rounds - such a waste of precious ammo.

The M14 they won't be sissy,they would be respected and the M14 is pretty Versatile with configurations like the SOCOM 16 and the full length itself.Fiber glass negates the it's wood thing and 7.62 can be toned a bit downwards for normal shooting(it could be toned to the 2600FPS range) or up for our snipers and we need some bolt guns also in 7.62 for stuff like mendoza i mean think of it like this: Mendoza's M16 shot by a sniper.
@christlubas I agree the M14 is very versatile and I believe it would remain in use for twenty more years. The M14 is better off as a sniper/designated marksman weapon than as a standard infantry rifle for the 21st Century. Fiber glass is better than wood and you're right - it looks sexier than the "wood theng". Hehe! The M14 is always my favorite of the classics.
The sniper who killed Mendoza used a 7.62 bolt action, I believe it was a Remington.
The M14 could be used like an AK47 when "downloaded" and a shorter barrel to make it "weaker"(albeit much more powerful than puny 5.56(Fail Fail Six)
if the M14 is used this way it won't be an anti air when used in full auto and the Marines? i doubt they will gain any significant problems on just semi.
In EBR config or the one i saw in True Weight marked as the M14 2008 it becomes a very good battle/assault rifle with long range capability
@christlubas Back in my ROTC officer days I've fired the M14 and the M16. If you ask me, I'd pick an M16 any day. Both guns can kill with one shot to the body or the head. What matters is the number of rounds you can carry into combat. Since the 5.56 and M16 are lighter, you can carry twice more ammo than you could with 7.62 and the heavy M14. That's why the M16 replaced the M14 in almost all roles except in long range sniping. :)
@d0dgeball after seeing what the M16 has done to my father(this was back in the 70s so no photos)i am very much more comfortable with the 45 ACP hitting my foes arm! damn he took a 6 round burst of full auto fury on his chest and managed to fire back while on a separate occasion he got hit by the 45 and as mentioned above it "forced" him downwards and made him lose enough blood to become unconscious fast and afterwards he bought himself an M14 and never looked back. (he used to be a bodyguard.)

@pauldamedtech that is correct. the m16 was designed by eugene stoner and jim (james) sullivan. the original name of the m16 was the AR-15 manufactured by armalite a division of fairchild engine & airplane corporation. thats the reason why the upper & lower receiver is made from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, the same alloy used in aircraft manufacture. 3 companies who are authorized to manufacture eugene's design are armalite, knight's and colt.

Accordingly, the Ak 47 and its variants are the most reliable assault rifle. The M16 is prone to jam as it needs more cleaning than the AK. But the M16 is more accurate and since it uses smaller cartridge it means more ammo to carry and lesser recoil. Why not the Danao people make an AK 47 using a 5.56 caliber.

I remember in 1986 or 87 when the Philippine Scout Rangers occupied Makati, Quad, Greenbelt and Intercon Hotel in a coup against Cory Aquino. They killed my Tita's maid in Greenbelt when she stuck her head to look. Bang! M-14 head shot. Good thing they didn't shoot me!

@RingSight91 Uh, only the Scout Rangers use M-14's during that time. All other police and military units use M-16's. I patrolled the night before in my bicycle and saw them up close. The next day they opened fire at anyone and everyone. Binay and the police tried to get them out. They are a murderous bunch going into the Makati business district where they are supposed to be fighting the NPA and Muslim insurgents in the provinces. Asshole military should know civilians are the bosses!

I didn't say they "didn't do anything", but you seem to need an education in the terms used in war. Sure the Resistance did "sabotage", "intelligence gathering", maybe a few "ambushes" here and there. But by all Conventions, those are called "Harassment Actions", not out and out "Fighting" as in "Combat". "Military Units" do "Fighting", to which all US & PI "units" were disbanded and no longer party to that class.

The Floro MP 9 & Mk 9 SMGs look like Household Hardware tools, crappy design.
Yung MSSR ay modified M16A1 lang yan, ginagaya nila yung SR-25 ng US kasi kapos "DAW" sa budget ang gobyerno.
Pero ok na rin yung ginawa ng FERFRANS on their SOAR. Nice CQC Rifle.

MSSR = Modified M16A4 so mas malapit kasi yung SR25 medyo mas maraming binago.

@christlubas The MSSR is actually very effective in the Philippines' setting. Marines are often engaged in close quarters combat in the jungles, usually no more than 300 meters. They need a rifle that can shoot more precisely than the M16 in that range and hence the MSSR was born. Besides, the MSSR fires the same 5.56 round and incorporates the same parts as does the rest of their M16s so there's no problem in terms of logistics.

7.62 NATO FTW cause when you shoot a bastard at 300 meters hits are not everything, power is.
as for the Jungle part even more reason why the 5.56 sucks, it can't go through trees where as 7.62 has a high chance of penetrating the damn wood.
the 7.62 is also available here in the PH and there are a number of rifles cheap enough to be exported to us (Cetme,G3 etc)

@christlubas My wife's cousin (a sniper instructor in 4ID, PA) once told me that the 5.56 is nastier than the 7.62 in terms of stopping a man. The 7.62 is more powerful but it pierces right through a man like an ice pick at 2,000+ fps. The 5.56 on the other hand tumbles in flight and creates a nasty wound, especially when the bullet fragments upon hitting human tissue at 3,000+ fps. So neither one is inadequate. Choosing the gun depends entirely upon the sniper's mission.

@christlubas In my opinion, the marines created the 5.56 MSSR out of the need to come very close to the enemy and shoot him exactly in the eye. They also thought they might want to take him down without the bullet penetrating his body and hitting someone or something behind they don't want harmed. Sometimes they don't need excess stopping power. Nonetheless, the marines have all types of sniper weapon systems - 5.56, 7.62 (.308), and 12.7 (.50-cal) - to choose from, depending on the mission.

the idea of hitting the eye of a person is pretty much full of scientific bullcrap and will rarely be a good idea.
For our jungles,M16 is not the weapon at all, We need the M14 or Garand again since A:We need much better penetration and B:We need Stopping power with that penetration.

@christlubas The M14 and garand are long and heavy guns, not good for carrying around in the hot, humid, tight, and mountainous jungles. They also have high recoil. Plus these wooden guns tend to be a inaccurate when their wood stocks are wet. That's the reason why the M16 replaced them. The .50cal is used for antimaterial and very long range shots. Yes the .50 is excessive if you use it at close range. But like I said, they have different guns with different calibers for different missions. :)

The M16 is good if you can get head shots all day but in the jungle, this rarely even occurs.

@christlubas If you ask me, soldiers won't look sissy carrying an M14 but they look stupid if they have Garands. Garands are about 1 kg heavier than the M14 and about 1 inch longer. They fire the .30-06 rounds which has way too much firepower. Them .30-06 rounds are heavy and you could carry only about a hundred of those if you wanna fight through the jungle for weeks. Furthermore, the garand has 8-round clips which cannot be reloaded unless you fire all 8 rounds - such a waste of precious ammo.

The M14 they won't be sissy,they would be respected and the M14 is pretty Versatile with configurations like the SOCOM 16 and the full length itself.Fiber glass negates the it's wood thing and 7.62 can be toned a bit downwards for normal shooting(it could be toned to the 2600FPS range) or up for our snipers and we need some bolt guns also in 7.62 for stuff like mendoza i mean think of it like this: Mendoza's M16 shot by a sniper.

@christlubas I agree the M14 is very versatile and I believe it would remain in use for twenty more years. The M14 is better off as a sniper/designated marksman weapon than as a standard infantry rifle for the 21st Century. Fiber glass is better than wood and you're right - it looks sexier than the "wood theng". Hehe! The M14 is always my favorite of the classics.
The sniper who killed Mendoza used a 7.62 bolt action, I believe it was a Remington.

The M14 could be used like an AK47 when "downloaded" and a shorter barrel to make it "weaker"(albeit much more powerful than puny 5.56(Fail Fail Six)
if the M14 is used this way it won't be an anti air when used in full auto and the Marines? i doubt they will gain any significant problems on just semi.
In EBR config or the one i saw in True Weight marked as the M14 2008 it becomes a very good battle/assault rifle with long range capability

@christlubas Back in my ROTC officer days I've fired the M14 and the M16. If you ask me, I'd pick an M16 any day. Both guns can kill with one shot to the body or the head. What matters is the number of rounds you can carry into combat. Since the 5.56 and M16 are lighter, you can carry twice more ammo than you could with 7.62 and the heavy M14. That's why the M16 replaced the M14 in almost all roles except in long range sniping. :)

@d0dgeball after seeing what the M16 has done to my father(this was back in the 70s so no photos)i am very much more comfortable with the 45 ACP hitting my foes arm! damn he took a 6 round burst of full auto fury on his chest and managed to fire back while on a separate occasion he got hit by the 45 and as mentioned above it "forced" him downwards and made him lose enough blood to become unconscious fast and afterwards he bought himself an M14 and never looked back. (he used to be a bodyguard.)

When you enter a shopping mall, they have to look in your bags thoroughly using a police baton to find any weapons, and that strict act have mostly prevented Terrorists and other criminals to do their jobs.
