W0w ! Amazing talent. I enjoyed seeing how fast his feet were moving, whether intended for the organ or not, this piece was certainly a lot of movement to execute.
I think Cameron made this arrangement for a technical challenge rather than musical.A lot of stamina is required for the left hand with this Chopin etude but he I feel liked the challenge with his feet and why not as nobody else has done it as far as I know.I like the guy and he is not pompous but just innovative and extremely clever.I wish him luck.
Check out Cameron playing the Bach 540. It's the best version of the 540 that I've ever heard in my life. It's on his last album "Cameron Live!" played on a real pipe organ from Saint Mary's in NY.
@bckm54 No, but using a piano would've been nice. This amazing piece sounds like crap on organ. And that Cameron Carpenter guy has great technique, but zero musical feeling. I'm not a fool, though I AM pompous.
@polyinterpretabilite you can't express as much emotion on an organ as on a piano, because it hasn't got this big dynamic range.. it's more due to the instrument than to the player
@voicega I have to disagree, organ can be an extremely emotional instrument. It's just this piece that should never have been played on any other instrument except the piano...
I don't agree, and also think that it depends on the song. I think the organ version of this song is much better and more emotional then the piano's version.
AMAZING pedal technique....LOADS of it....VERY impressive.......but IS IT MUSICAL PLAYING....does it satisfy the soul??? It doesn't satisfy my soul. Just compare this playing to a non celebrity, no flashy player organist who KNEW how to move your to a higher realm. It was none other than Jesse Crawford (December 2, 1895 – May 28, 1962). Just listen to his CD named "Organ and Chimes" for Christmas. Now THAT is MUSIC. NO flashy organ technique, just fine music that WILL make you weep .
heart him in oldenburg. he is an extraordinary musician. you cannot compare. so much: to listen to a life audience of liszt wouldn't be more indulging. he loves the instrument, he loves the music, there is nothing in between. a pity your attentiveness isn't enough for such an evening.
I am shocked at the distasteful comments about gay on here as a HOMO myself all male organists I know are gay and some married. So if you are offended by the gays dont watch this guy who by the way has more talent in his little toe than most musicians I know this Etude is difficult on the piano with hands it is truly remarkable to do this with feet so those making anti gay comments why the F*** are you watching gay organists? Open the closet door, play like Cameron or shut the F*** up!!
@valentinw1 Just stop and listen. This may not be as like piano performances, but it is still wonderful playing. It is certainly harder to play on the pedalboard. The registrations and reverb make this a delight to hear.
@TonyWRO Right, because EVERY male organist I have ever met is perfectly straight. Nevermind other great gay musicians: Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Benjamin Britten, Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, and Saint-Saens to name a handful.
@RegalPlatypus Tchaikovsky wasn't gay, i mean he was but he didn't accept his homosexuality, he knew that his attraction wasn't good so I respect him. He was a normal man and music genius. Cameron Carpenter is just a well-playing faggot and dumb clown.
@TonyWRO you are kind of right. often genius people are very narcistic. narcism comes from being neglected by narcistic parents as a baby. you need a strategy to get along with your narcism. some do 'ora et lobora' some live a 'gay' life. tchaikovsky chose to face his loneliness, others try to fill it. i don't know about carpenter but he is a extraordinary sportsman on the orgue.
