First, congrats on making that talkbox, it has a really pro finish to it ! You really got me into making my own !

Now I just wanted to ask you. It seems from what I hear in the video, that the sound comming out of your handmade talkbox restituates far less accurately the words you pronounce. Is it just because of different camera setup etc... or is it of less quality on that topic ?

the voice on the piano?...

no, the way it works (sort of) is that the piano sends signals to speakers, that send sound through a tube, and with you mouth you "change" the sound. Although other people may correct me or improve on my comment if you should feel like it.

get yourself a crappy lil mixer with 3-band controll and you can improve the sound. the big downside to the talkbox is that you can turn up the frequencies that are crucial for vocal. the mid-highs. from what i've seen THIS is the only video that Mayhem doesnt actually use the banshee... he's just really really good, so he can use probably any talkbox of his choosing. its practice and understanding how it works

ever thought about building the amp into the box like the Banshee concept? Ive got a Heil and I was thinking about mounting a small amp in an enclosure similar to your to drive it. Im looking for a small-sized amp that could be used but still has a pre & EQ like yours. Anyone got any ideas? I was even thinking about running a car stereo amp off of a wall-wart. Any thoughts?

well when your mouth moves inwards, the tube gets in the way from letting the sound + air get through not letting all the true sound in there... a smaller tube should help this however, it might not be good for fitting with your mouth..

Mayhem, thank you brotha! Because of you I built my talkbox today and it works great. I'm using a microKorg which has some pretty decent patches but will probably get a Yamaha soon to give it a try. You make it look a lot easier than it is.  Saying "California knows how to party" properly took me like 10 minutes. Also, I noticed it's hard not to hold your breath while talkboxing, anyone have that problem? Are you supposed to hold your breath or try to breathe normally?

Fender? You mean a guitar amp? Talkboxes are notorious for killing guitar amps. Get a PA amp like he has, or an amplifier for a home theater/stereo system.

i am not trying to make you feel like you wasted your money, but that is not a good talk box. it's really cheap and can break easily, and doesnt really sound good. as for building your own, i would just save up for a banshee. its well built and wont break down on you, its like a tank

Just bought a Pyle Pro 772 horn driver... looks the same as yours. The horn driver is rated at 8 ohms, so I was wondering what the majority of outputs for small amps (like a small Fender or Crate amp) are in ohms. I understand you can ruin both your amp and your talkbox if you switch up ohms.

Can you help me out with this... cuz the amp is my last step in actually testing this talkbox out.

You can actually build a pretty nice talk box with a toilet plunger. (preferably unused) I posted a video for how to do it... just search youtube for "Toilet Plunger Talk box"

In this video I placed the camera right next to the talkbox. So, you're hearing more the raw sound that the talkbox is putting out, rather than my modulation of that sound. Hence the buzzyness. Let me tell you, this box CRUSHES the Banshee in terms of clarity and power.

Great vid, but being a DJ, I just have to point out that the phono input is for record players or turntables that need an additional pre-amp to boost the signal enough to be played through an amp such as that one. Thats if you're directly inputting the turntable to the amp itself, otherwise, most mixers have built-in preamps.
