in master system version boss are better made than arace version! for example dragons..Like shinobi..in master system you have more weapons : nunchaku, kusarigama..

On the second level there is a sword near the tree that i've never been able to grab, it seems impossible to get to.

You mean the flame sword at 1:54? It's just really hard to get, you gotta jump on the rope then jump left and stab up. It's hard cause you'll either hit your head on the branch or jump too short.

The arcade version of this is rock hard.

This version is better though because of the music.

All I remember is if you took too long it was night time and more animals appeared and that later levels on this game were impossible.

The SMS version was based on the first arcade title, but the Genesis installment simply was the second "Rastan" episode (Rastan Saga). The latter was also available on PCEngine/Turbo Grafx.

The 'arcade-perfect/pixel-perfect" version is available in the "Taito Legends 1" volume for PS2 and XBOX.

Your mixes are nice but I prefer to have the in-game sound effects. If you want to take it to the next level, remove the sms music when playing (I assume you play on an emulator) and replace it with your mixes afterwards so we can hear both ^^
