LoL, Judo IMO is the best self-defense martial art. Don't get me wrong any kind of martial art is good for self defense. However Judo and BJJ bring it to another level. Making the practitioner literally deadly at both standing and on the ground. I do Judo and my gym also does Muay Thai. I don't get into street fights but my last one a few years ago I just threw a standing Udi-Garame(Kimura) and forced my opponent to the ground. You don't need a combat judo school just find a Judo school.

I do pankration but would like to also try Judo. I've heard of both Judo and sport Judo, what is the difference ?

You mean Judo as in Combat Judo which is strictly self defense originated from Okinawa, Japan. Competition Judo on the other hand is a bit the same but primarily throws and not as much accuracy due to that they're trying to score points & forget about the self defense involved in it. -Kind Regards- ChavaMMA
