Ja det är samma motor. Problemet i den andra filmen var att det hade kommit in luft i bränsleledningen visade det sig till slut men vi trodde den inte startade för att cylindern hade varit fylld med olja under vintern.
It is used for propelling the boat forward in the water :) ..ok, all sarcasm aside, single and two cylinder saab engines are very reliable and fuel efficient. Many burn only 2-3 liters of fuel per hour. This isn't a fast boat, but it does cost less to operate than one that does 40kts with a huge v8 or a 4cyl outboard turning 5000rpm.
A single cylinder of that size in a boat would not be very fast, but I had a dunebuggy 10 years ago that had a single cylinder 0.7L engine and it would do just under 60mph. These old diesels are a beautiful piece of work. The low revs not only reduce the fuel use but many have more torque at 500rpm than some 4cyl automotive engines at 5000rpm. You do find them on pumps though. I worked with a guy in NV last year who had one pumping water 2000ft up a mountain with no problem.
The only problem with using a single-cylinder engine to propel a boat is it's tendency to stall while trying to push the boat in heavy waves; small diesels have suprisingly little torque.
I have the same enigine in my boat, but I never use starter-cigarettes. I fill oil in the oil-cap on top of the engine. In this cap there are a little hole, I put my oil-pump nossle in and pump three times. Starts right up, even in -10C. Extremely reliable engines, mine is a 1963. 10hp Sabb made by Sabb Motor, Bergen, Norway.
with that ciggerete reminds me of a tractor i seen on RFD on classic tractors , Either hand crank or start it with a 12 gauge shotgun shell , yea u heard that right a shotgun shell lol
Han tala svenksa...but don't ask me what he said...His speaks Swedish better than I do...all I can say is that 'jag vete inte'...anyway that boat and diesel engine is really cool !!!
Amateur!!!!! Starter-cigarettes are intended for extreme cold weather.. Try pumping some oil into the cylinder next time. its much better for the engine...

sounds like it has raspy bearings or something grindy on the driveline.

@n4120p I heard that too, and noticed it slowed down kind of abruptly after the compression release was engaged.

Great video . Är detta samma motor som i filmen " Diesel Is F*****G hard to start ?
Den startade isåfall mycket bättre i denna filmen .

need some water outside the boat, or else it wil just fall to the bottom, for sure it won't float. And that sucks, since it's a boat
ravhool 3 years ago
Check my other video: Diesel is fu**ing hard to cold start, in that video we set fire on a cigarette and you can see how it burns.

i dont know what the cig is for

It's used on some older engines in place of a glow plug to help starting.

So that is what my engine will sound like when it is put back together. A motivational video for me. Good stuff.

A single cylinder engine for propulsion? Yikes that boat must be fast, lmao
I just assumed that because of its small size, it is used as a pump, or other.

Sabb engines don't have any tendency to stall until the boat sinks.

Was that a decompression lever he flipped? My Volvo MD7A has one, but I've never used the lever.
Stellwagen 4 years ago
Yes, you can never crank the engine by hand if the decompression valve is closed.

dude that thing needs some bearings somewhere on that engine

Don't know if you guys noticed or not, but the person in this video only has 4 fingers on one of his hands.

He lost one finger in a accident at his work.

Here in Holland we stick a massive grass joint up the intake and if the engine does not run we just get stoned instead.

Nice startup, But man does it need some new bearings in there somewhere!!!

It's just a powder load...no shot otherwise it would destroy the motor.

Cold is holding a tiger torch on an old Lister in -45 c....
The oil looks like tar....
Quick start won't help, you can turn it over fast enough....
Way up above the tree line and the sun won't be up for for more than a few hours so you better get a move on....
