Drum solos are usually pretty boring, I think even Charlie Watts said that. But this one isn't, and I think it's this kid's energy as much a talent (although he has lots of that too) that puts this over the top.
That piano player could give Jerry Lee,Mickey Gilley and Fats a run for their money. Looks like Jr inherited Daddy's energy. In his younger days, Doug had more energy than the Energizer Bunny. He moved around the stage like he was riding a rocket.
Oh how I miss these good old time honky tonk blues. It's hard to find this type of music anywhere these days nether alone all rap crap and techno with no meaning. Bring the good old honky tonk music back.
I was born in Lafayette, LA My parents have a recording of me at age two singing this song. It gets broken out every time I ever bring someone over for the first time...
My daddy used to have this on record too and he and my Pop-Paw used to sing this and Pop-Paw called me his little toot toot too. He is on dialysis and his kidneys are failing!! Luv u, Pop-Paw!!

@fredmyrtz Come on, these fellas are havin' fun and they have musical chemistry and stage presence that trumps any notion that there's an imbalance of talent. No offense to you or this bunch of musicians, but I just can't see the point in claiming any imbalance of talent amongst these guys... I mean, it's not Dream Theater, it's just a lot of fun and positive energy, I don't think the guitar player needs to shred, nor does the bassist need to play like Billy Sheehan. I'm just sayin'.
@WermGut Yes they're having a good time, but i must disagree, there is an imbalance... the guitar and bass guys do play along and do their leads, but just not with the same emphasis as the rest of the band.. dont get me wrong, they are good musicians, but it seems like they are not in their best environment. i guess what pissed me off about david, the bass player was how he upstaged Louie after Louie did his solo, he jumped in before Doug could even say hey this was Louie on the keyboards...
@fredmyrtz With all due respect, and I don't aim to argue, but the keyboardist was formally introduced @ precisely 4:46 and following his keyboard solo, Doug named him again @ 5:22. The bassist didn't perform anything flashy or anything that could possibly be construed as a bass lead or solo until he was properly introduced by Doug, which occured @ 5:32. My only complaint about the bassist is how he stole that bass riff from Sugarloaf's Green Eyed Lady song. I like things to stay original.
Both of my children were trained classical in violin, viola, and piano. At age 8, I introduced them to Doug Kershaw and the light went on in their eyes and I knew then they would really grow in their music accomplishments!
@jazzygams I gave a fiddle / violin to my neighbors daughter. She asked me what the difference was between a fiddle and a violin, I todl her "The type of music YOU play".
These fellas are havin' SO much fun that you KNOW there's gonna be a law against it one day!! Damn, they can really jam! And I LOVE that bass line from Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady"....great post, thanks for puttin' this toe-tapper online.
I remember being little and hearing this on the radio. My dad loved it and use to say that he felt the same way no one better mess with his toot toot he would do more and just keep singing along God rest you dad I love and miss you.
Going to a D.K. concert in about 4 hrs. Got free tickets. Not really the stuff I listen to on a daily basis... but I gotta admit... from what I'm hearing this is some good ol' rockin' Louisiana cajun soul music. Think I'm gonna have a good ol' time tonight.
@VinnieBoomBoom Where was the concert that you went to? How did you find out about it? I've been trying to find out where he will be playing and have had no luck, although I know he will be playing in Gretna La in Oct this year. I saw him 3 times many years ago and would really like to see him again. I have the DVD that this came from and it is great. This was recorded Mar 16, 2002 in Florida. Would appreciate anyone letting me know how to find out Doug's schedule.
My Dad taped this video when I was kid & played it for us when we were over! He got me hooked on good ole country music! Loved this video of SammY & Fats Domino
Anyone remember the video with this guy, Fats omino and David Carradine?? LOL My dad must have made me watch that about two thousand times as a kid...wish I still had it!
my dad had this on an LP when I was a little kid ( before I was even in school) in the late 80's and would play it when we had company and we would all dance. lol.
