  • bear grylls the shit

  • @christbearer77 watchu talkin bout nikka hes a phony

  • is that the guy from dual survival? fuk ya that guys raw

  • I Love youre TV Show <3

  • Does anyone know the website for that machete?

  • Oh, the Busse FFBM is also a kick butt tool.

  • Dave, I like Ontario, but also Ka-bar long heavy bowie, Ontario SP52, Ka-bar cutlass machete, and Ka-bar grass machete work just as great!

Also on gear: BOOTS. What do you like and wear most. Gore-tex but which? Zamberlan, Asolo, Vasque, Scarpa?

  • Is that an M65 jacket? I'm in the market for one and I'd like some tips on what/where to look for when getting one of these. Thanks!

  • These videos are so much better than the ones on tv ...

  • good ideas, thx

  • Good vid Dave. I love sheath mods cause you're making something you would have on you even more useful. A tool should cover as many uses as you can cram into it. Swiss Army sheath brother

  • where do u buy the "ranger band"?

  • @pesarirooni62 Ranger bands are just cut up bicycle inner tube. Easy enough to make. Just take some scissors and cut sections off the end of the tube. If you don't ride a bike (shame on you), drop by a bike shop and see if they have punctured tubes they can give you.

  • @purplemutantas thank you so much. did just that. they gave me a thin tube so if anything is tiny and small i can use it for.

I used to ride a bike a lot. need to figure out a way to get rid of the job(not the money) so i can free up some time ;)

    wouldn't that be nice

  • Awesome mods to existing gear. That is all you would need in an emergency and that is the only piece of kit you would salvage. Sasquatch isn't that bad, but if you ran from a Squatch you could survive well.

OK I really do believe in Sasquatch, but I don't think I would need it. My belief does not equate fact.

    :)

    :P

  • Good choice budy, that kind of machete is the very and most practical jungle machete.

  • The only guy I have saw that choice a real life machete for survive, I personally prefer it a little long because the snakes, but it is seroius survival choice,

  • you look like a bum like me

  • That's awesome! I think I'm gonna make one myself! very useful!

  • in pataskala, OH theres a place called general merchadise and the have a lot of army surplus

  • Just curious what size is that machete?. Is that 18"

  • @Vi3tSurvivalist2012 its the 18''

  • @Spooner1987 thanks

  • Dave, I went to your web page looking for the Machete and had no luck? Any word on when your getting in more? Thanks for uploading the video!

  • can u imagine this guy trying to get through aussie customs hahaha lol have fun with that mate :P you should take all your shit with you and lay it out on the table for them... they'd put the swat team on your ass ... u cant get a bb gun through our customs, let alone a machette :)

  • Hi Dave,

do you still have the knife you used in the Dual Survival episode Slash and Burn? I'd love to make one of those out of damascus steel.

  • Bear is better than this 2 guys, i think. (Russian opinion=) )

  • @YoumodambaRUS Bear is a phoney who sleeps in a hotel room while filming. He was in the British Special Forces for just a few weeks when he broke his back.Never graduated.Yet he always mentions he was in Special Forces in all his videos. If you really want to survive in the wilderness....listen to Dave, not that phoney Bear.

  • @nerblebun I'm not traveler like many European and American people. I know how to survive in my area (south part of the country between Europe and Asia).

Just show with Bear have more action. Dual survive (not remember name of show) with many boring speaking.

  • Was that you or Silver Fox who showed the bicycle inner-tube wrap on the large blade?

  • I can't find this machete on the site... I want to order one

  • @loosertubesucks just search amazon for ontario machete, I believe the one he is using is the 1-18SBK Machete with Saw Teeth

  • Hey Dave - are you still running this Ontario Machete?

  • Kcpatel144 WD40 does a great job cleaning tree sap, pine tar and all that crap off the blade. Just spray, let it soak in for about 20min and it all wipes right off

  • Nice job Dave. Another thing you can do that I did, the blade is about 1/2in shorter than the sheath so I drilled a hole and then strung a leg lanyard with para so it stays on my leg and don't flop all over

  • @211vegan Your opinion, just like yourself, smells of excrement. Greetings from America, douche bag.

  • Bear grills is more of an extremist or a worst case and you can learn a lot from his shows may it be practical or extreme good vid though I want a good machete but I live in a canadian city and don't need much better than a $15 one from Canadian tire... Might as well get a good $60 survival knife and baton or use the master craft hatchet I carry everywhere

  • hey dave, did you make that vessel harness, if so video idea???

  • his gloves are also available at walmart

  • Amazing idea!, simple and very inexpensive but extremely useful and potentially life saving. Love the idea of a para-cord sling! hard to lose that in say a fall or have to ditch the pack scenario ....still have essentials Thanks Dave!!

  • @211vegan id like to see you be prepared when your stranded out in the jungle

  • @211vegan What is your problem?

  • @211vegan Your telling him to get a life when he is out in the woods having fun and your commenting on his video of how he doesn't have a life. Think it through dumbass.

  • @211vegan

    What's your issue???

  • I was wondering how you do that slipknot/loop system for the rope on machete?

  • I feel sorry for the ignorant little kids who have to make snotty remarks about Bear Grylls all the time when they hardly know anything about him; he served in the special forces, and fell 16,000 feet after his parachute failed to open and broke his back in 3 places. 18 months after recovering, he climbed Mount Everest (and broke the world record as the youngest person to do it)... even after all that, he still has the dedication to do what he loves the most in life

  • @AlexTheAverageKid agreed. met the dude at a Juice Plus conference. He's awesome.

  • i was expecting a 'like if you agree'

  • Hey, You live where I hunt. RIGHT ON!

  • @barneylol999 I believe he lives in Ohio.

  • i was just watching discovery channel here in Australia, and i saw a show called dual survival. two minutes in i yelled "HOLY CRAP THATS DAVE" my mum yelled at me cus she was sleeping lol.

it was a good show too

  • Im thinking of building a machete for my self, im planning to use blade springs from a pickup, and make a forge of sorts, then start punishing that steel into the shape of a machete, grind it down to a nice flat grind and I think of putting a convex edge on there... May take some while to get hold of the steel as for now I have only been waiting for it to come to me, which we all can agree that's not going to happen :), but I have time and eventually an offer will appear, from the guys i know.

  • The episode in which Bear Grylls drank elephant poop water was the day I finally got it.. his show is a comedy and he's a clown. Dave is very real by comparison and I don't expect to ever see him drinking elephant poop water.

  • dave: ey CODYYYY !!!! cody: ..YA ! --- bear grills: i have no choice but to drink my own pee. its disgusting but it will rehydrate myself.

dave and cody are legendary ! as bear grills is pressing the fluids out of fresh elephant poo :D !

  • That's how I like stuff done. using the things available, to better your chances out in the wild.

And of course, Dave's mind is right on it!

Thats the mind of a true survivalist!

    GO DAVE!!!

  • chuck norris would sharpen it with his ass hair

  • DAVE IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

  • If u live I'n Vermont around the northern part of it u should work at kendle farm a teach us all these skills and have classes u would be my favorite teacher

  • You can find this kind of jacket for $200-400, so you got a bargain!

  • unless you plan on eating a few fingers, you shouldn't have the sharp edge towards you when you sharpen. :)

  • dave canterbury never fails to impress me

  • @jumpman5551 you found the right words to explain it. i love his vids. it would be awesome to know all his skills ^^

  • Great mods!

  • i love your show man im so pumped for the second episode of the new season

  • @alexandersyring yes thats him. he has been making these videos for years

  • owsom can you make a box trap and exsplan how to make it

  • As self reliant survivalists you need to be aware of the AlexJonesChannel and to the LDS church who has taught these principles since the mid 1800's.

  • I used this idea on my eskabar neck knife, now have all the basics in one place, great inexpensive idea, thanks dave

  • Lesson learned: dont grab any old bicycle tube. To go around your Machete sheath, you will need a larger one, more like a mountain bike tube. Great Stuff Dave!

  • Very good ideas, I need to do this to mine. Thank you for the tip.

  • Awesome video man.

Wish i could give you a salute. I appreciate your years in the service, and i'm a big fan of your tactics and strategy at surviving in the bush.

Keep up the good work, and keep up on these good videos.

    Catchya later soldier,

    Hooah.

  • If you compare Dave Canterbury to Bear Grylls...... Bear Grylls is like the crap that comes out of my dogs butt !!! Go Dave !

  • @CrawfosGear Just Comparing the shows alone. Dave Won when He Killed the Gator. That's Bad ass. Bear Grylls Just Does Stupid Stuff that's great For Television. I heard a Joke on a chat room. If Bear Grylls was Stuck on a Sky Scraper, He'd Strip down Jump off, and use his Urine To Break His fall. and that Just about Sums him Up. Dave here. all those Chuck Norris jokes are really about him.

  • @thadarryl hahahaha

  • @CrawfosGear BEAR GRYLLS WAS CRAP THAT COMES OUT OF A DONKEYS ASS TO START WITH LOL

  • @iiSamples hahhaahha!!!

  • @CrawfosGear

Then you must be the corn in the crap.

  • @CrawfosGear Dog with worms.

  • @TheBi0Mistake hahahaha

  • @CrawfosGear Bear Grylls is an idiot. Ray Mears is a far better, im not sure if you have him in america though.

  • duct tape is a mans bestfriend but i am just woundering how much would it cost to get a sexy ass machete like that

  • @pornman217 I don't know bout the ontario, but a cold steel penga style machete (with sheathe) cost about $25

  • what are your opinions on the ontario machetes? ive been looking at getting them for around the farm, it owuld be nice to have an experts opinion!

  • Get out of here, Stalker.

  • Where did you get the sharpening stone?

  • what is the size of the Ontario?

  • he said southeast Ohio? I probably live like 20 mins away from him.

  • great videos Dave, the stone has a cool shape, i noticed it isn't on the website anymore, is it still available elsewhere?

  • Hey Dave, I just want to say I love the show! You and Cody are awesome! I also have done something similar to what you have done, but with hunting knives.

  • good idea

  • Hey Dave love the videos. Just ordered an Ontario can't wait for it.

  • Yes. Ducktape does count as a bandaide.

  • I would shove a condom or 2 on that kit.put it inside a sock and it helps carrying water.

  • Great and usefull video man !.... what stones do you use to sharp the machete or the knives? maybe a video showing how to do that in the wild where you dont have always a sharpening stone....

  • like if u miss daves origional intro intro

  • I will be making these mods to my Ontario in the next 2 days. Thanks. That is an awesome tool.

  • What did you use to grind away the coating on the blade for your firesteel

  • @Dallas387 dont buy anything at walmart. get off a well trusted store or website or order directly from the maker. walmart's machete is in all honesty one of the worst tools ive ever owned. save your money and get a good one, because it could mean the difference between life and death.

  • Hi, if somebody can tell me something, what is a ranger band?, I'm not from USA, I read around 20 reviews talking about putt rager band on the sheath. Thanks

  • @Joranba

    Inner-tube bands.

  • @Joranba You can buy em (just google Ranger Bands) or make your own from bicycle innertubes.

  • @Joranba You can buy em (just google Ranger Bands) or make your own from bicycle innertubes.

  • @Joranba

You can buy em (just google Ranger Bands) or make your own from bicycle innertubes.

  • great machete modifications!!! Thanks Dave

  • witch molde is that

  • How do you keep your machete clean . Mine has this bark type junk on it Can you help

  • I really like the tv show "Dual Survival" that your in it is very cool

  • join the army and youll get a gortex issued to you

  • @norcaltke857 idk who you were talking to but I believe Dave was an army sniper.

  • @TheCommando962011 cool didnt know that. I'm just trying to learn new things. I used to be into the outdoors and I might end up going to the oh so fun q course. Plus knowledge is power.

  • will the sheath fit a condor 18" el salvador machete? and where could i buy one

    thanks

  • @foxracing150 that sheath is specific to ontario machetes

  • hey dave! just noticed in the Brazil episode on Dual Survival that the machete you were using was an ESEE! i recently just got an ESEE 5 and have LOVED IT. just curious as to what you think of the ESEE machete? i mean...lifetime warranty no questions asked from ESEE is pretty worth it!

  • damn bro . Brooooooo haul ass down in quebec .

  • If you want a more reliable handle on that ontario, there is a simple mod. The scales on the standard ontario machetes kind of suck to be honest. I have cracked one off and it seems to be a common issue with them, just the nature of the design and material. The D-guard ones are injection molded and all I did was cut my D-guard off with a small hacksaw and rounded the bit off with a sponge sanding block to give it a rounded shape. Anyways, nice vid man!

  • wich ontario macete is that

  • These mods combined with the mods by "colhane" give you the ability to make a custom machete fit to your own personal wants and needs and out perform overpriced commercial "customs" (i.e. blind horse knives machete,$110?).

  • is that the guy from duel survival?

  • @spartan16216 yes, dual

  • Cool I'm getin a, 25 inch machete

  • i had 22'' for 11 years and finally broke it about a month ago XD, very interesting video

  • Great vid, very helpful

  • how did i feel cutting your arm and pouring the black poeder in it,,, love ur vids and show

  • @megalizardfreak probably like an orgasm ... of course

  • Magnetize your Repair needles,Makes a compass in a pinch.

  • thanks for this vid, it gave me a really good idea for my setup. i will use two thin ranger bands to fix a diamond rod to my sheath and so solve the problem with sharpening in the field (i like to move my blade across the sharpener and not vice-versa like you do with the machete, so the problem was how to fix the rod).

  • i had a cheap hatchet but i want to get machete because the hatchet is so cheat i have to sharpen it every time after i cut down a tree

  • have you ever tried a parang has three edges already and is a great chopper

  • I have the same Machete and sheath.. and im sitting at home rightnow, trying my hardest to stretch bike tire tube over the sheath.. and wow.. super hard.. Lol. Props to you dave for getting more than one section on there... cause after i get one on... im just going to deal with having ONE little pocket.. haha.

  • @arthurlafave I haven't done it... yet., but if your tube section is longer than a few inches, you could just use one tube and cut slits in it for your additional pockets. Just use one long section.

  • @RavenZ27 Thats what i ended up doing... just one long piece of tube.. and folded it over once.... so i ended up with two pockets on each side... four all together.. It worked out good.. they are sturdy, and wont let things fall out... i cant wait to get out this spring and use the gear now :D

  • @arthurlafave What brand of machete do you use? I've used the super cheap junk ones and have also used an excellent one that my brother has, but we don't know what brand it is, as it was purchased from a surplus store and was a gift. I am in the market and have narrowed it down to either purchasing an Ontario or a spring steel one from Cold Steel. I don't have experience with either, but am looking for some first-hand knowledge. Any input?

  • @RavenZ27 I started off with a Tractor supply chopsaw Machete... and the one i have now is the Ontario.. just like daves.. but its not the saw back.. and i LOVE it... its a GREAT buy... and an awesome tool... i would of course say pick that one up if you can.. for how well they are, there not badly priced.. I picked mine up at an Army Surplus store... but you can find them everywhere... infact... daves Wildernessoutfitters website has them for sale, same for The Canteen shop.. :D

  • @arthurlafave Thanks for the recommendation.

  • Dave, you should show us how you did the climbing rope with the slipknots :D

  • @ofsjason I agree dave... ive been trying to figure it out too.. Lol.

So far i have 12ft of rope wrapped, and tied on it... to make a think sort of sling to go over my shoulder. It works good.. and i was able to keep all 12ft in one section. that way if i need to use it.. i have a long length.

I used black rope for tying boats to docks. It has a very high breaking point, so its strong, im sure you could climb with it.. "at your own risk/if there was no other choices"

    thanks for the videos dave!

  • Retard still doesnt know how to sharpen a knife

  • Retard still doesnt know how to sharpen a knife

  • are you the guy from dual survival

  • @77airsoftluver dave canterbury is the guy on discoverys dual survival yes.

  • well done.

  • what was the name of that stone?

  • hey dave! you do know that the black thing on the rim of the sheath is a sharpener right?? why carry an extra one that adds weight to your system? you could add a mora knife in place and keep both sharp?

  • Да ты -лошара! Баран!

Автомобиль привяжи к своему ножу еще..

  • @trekkerr1 да идиот. американска работа.

  • @nitroflesh the cold war is over...you lost.

  • @whorebot325 Who said anything about the Cold War. Plus you don't know on wich side I am. Not so smart. I think you lost it.

  • Dave i have found that normal 'non applicator' type womens tampons make really good tinder they are tightly packed and have a fair wack of cotton wool in them plus they are already packed waterproof and dont take up much space in a fire kit.thanks so much for the videos you are an inspiration...come to the uk please!

  • I shall do my myshity that way tooooo!!!~!

  • is this the 18' or 12'? im pretty bad at measuring with my eyes.

  • Did you kill that hippie yet?

  • Is your Guyot painted with the same stuff you used in your bushcraft kit video?

  • i dnt travel by plane much, but would customs allow you to take that overseas?

  • @BrownFlip7852 think so, so long as its not in your hand luggage and you declare it at customs.

  • Magnatize your repair neddle , (Compass)

  • i was told by a friend about a show called "dual survival", and as i was watching, i recognised you almost instantly!

    great video btw

  • buy a HD camera! :)

    awesome vids btw. (Y)

  • duct tape is the thing that binds the entire universe together

  • 26 people are screwed if they are ever in a survival situation

  • Wow, I can't help but wonder why the folks at BCUSA are so jealous of Dave?? He's in the corner of the common man. He IS a common man. And he continues to BE a common man even with all his deserved success. He continues to put on survival courses where he teaches directly. What's the problem here?? Go figure..

I just purchased an Ontario Machete (12") and this video was very helpful. In fact, I watched the Colhane video first but found some of Dave's improvements very useful as well.

  • I like how you sharpen the other(second) side better than the first. Sharpening the first side like you did looked awfully dangerous and asking for injury.

  • hey dave, completely un related to the machete, but id like to ask a quick question. i have bad 2 bows from aspen and they both broke after not verry much use. am i just not making the bow right or is aspen not a good wood for a bow??

  • The "Colhane" machete modification is pretty sweet. Good job making a kit with it.

  • @NeutralBCUSA I agree Colhane had a greatr idea there.

  • paracord and duct tape... fix everything

  • WHO Ever it is that does not like these very practical and informative videos are just doing it to be rood or jellos TOOLS

  • where's cody at?

  • Comment removed

  • that machete is badass man

  • i grew up around hatchets and double-bits but have been using variety of machetes for fence clearing since mid eighties. without a doubt machete is the more multi-use tool, its very hard to find an indigenous group of people that dont employ some type of machete/large knife. prefer to use re-profiled coldsteel kukri, ontarios are good but brittle, have had two shear off catastophically with hard use

  • Bravo!!! molto bello......

  • its getting cold how come your not growing your hair for winter, i do a seasonal haircut shift evey year. you need a little camera umbrella, pointy end for the ground.

too bad that sheath doesnt have a top stopper i could serve as water capture and storage in an emergency.

  • Hanging onto to the same gloves for two years would be a real feat for me. LOL
