@TheDavid2222 No, they are conventional soldiers and the legion has itself a commando/SF unit. The point is that the toughness of the training to form a normal legioneer is very very close to other nations' special forces ;)
They actually don't have a SF. The 2rep regiment is comparable to the US Army Rangers but still isn't classed as special forces, its just the commando parachute unit of the Legion.

Now, I would agree with you had you said that the SAS is more elite, but dificulties is individual and based on habituation. Someone might have passed the SAS course and find the FFL to be more difficult in certain areas. I remember seeing during cross-training seeing elite navy seals strugled to keep up with Rqngers in land navigation.

I was disappointed, the show lacks credibility and authenticity, so you cant really take it seriously, in the end of the day, its just 3 people that served in the legion some 20 years ago, hired to toy around in fake uniforms and speak shit french. Was it impossible to make some kind of deal with the real legion and train with them in their compound? Of course it couldnt be dramatized in such silly way, nor would it take only 4 weeks. This show is mostly about jogging and singing unfortunatelly.

I saw the whole series, really eye opening in some ways. Who knew that France could have such a ruthless military arm? I would have thought such cruelty only existed in the British or American armies.
The American and British militaries don't have strict training regimes. It's not like it was in the 1900's as coming into 2000 something the Armed Forces in America softened up their basic training. However, we still don't get Xbox 360s and personal dorm rooms in basic like they do in England, in such places like the Catterick(sp) barracks. The Foreign Legion itself has softened up over time according to most.
@AhealthyoverdoseofGS funny that, I was at Pirbright for my basic and I never once had an Xbox 360 or a personal drom or the like. As for training getting easier, not necessarily - the only thing that's really changed is doing PFT's in boots (yet which I think a responsible soldier should ensure they do at least occasionally in their free time anyway). Just depends on who your instructors are at the end of the day and how many mongs you have in your section relating to how fucked about you get.
So he just decided "fuck it, I'll join the Legion for 5 years to make a TV show." Good on Bear, if there was an award for being a badass he should at least be nominated for it.

Like I said, 21 is a part time unit unlike 22 who's recruits are selected from the full time professional's best. TA SAS has mainly a recon role and the selection course is a shortened down version (every other weekend). No matter what wing you join the TA will have a less rigorous selection and will be of a much lower quality. Just like comparing an amateur team to a professional team. They both play the game but at different levels.

@usnavysss Well when it comes to the training they didn't exactly have it easy, TV show or not.
While most things one the show are a lot lighter than what they do to you in Castel, not to mention the "Farm", some things on the show are probably harder in a way.
France still has a relatively mild climate so even though you get pushed to the limit its a lot easier to perform tasks than in the desert, especially without aclimatizing to that environment first.

They actually don't have a SF. The 2rep regiment is comparable to the US Army Rangers but still isn't classed as special forces, its just the commando parachute unit of the Legion.

Now, I would agree with you had you said that the SAS is more elite, but dificulties is individual and based on habituation. Someone might have passed the SAS course and find the FFL to be more difficult in certain areas. I remember seeing during cross-training seeing elite navy seals strugled to keep up with Rqngers in land navigation.

When they created the legion it was to bring the french "indigène", the french criminals in the same regiment and to make them fight far from the mainland. Then after they included strangers. I was disappointed, the show lacks credibility and authenticity, so you cant really take it seriously, in the end of the day, its just 3 people that served in the legion some 20 years ago, hired to toy around in fake uniforms and speak shit french. Was it impossible to make some kind of deal with the real legion and train with them in their compound? Of course it couldnt be dramatized in such silly way, nor would it take only 4 weeks. This show is mostly about jogging and singing unfortunatelly.

The American and British militaries don't have strict training regimes. It's not like it was in the 1900's as coming into 2000 something the Armed Forces in America softened up their basic training. However, we still don't get Xbox 360s and personal dorm rooms in basic like they do in England, in such places like the Catterick(sp) barracks. The Foreign Legion itself has softened up over time according to most.

As for training getting easier, not necessarily - the only thing that's really changed is doing PFT's in boots (yet which I think a responsible soldier should ensure they do at least occasionally in their free time anyway). Just depends on who your instructors are at the end of the day and how many mongs you have in your section relating to how fucked about you get.

Like I said, 21 is a part time unit unlike 22 who's recruits are selected from the full time professional's best. TA SAS has mainly a recon role and the selection course is a shortened down version (every other weekend). No matter what wing you join the TA will have a less rigorous selection and will be of a much lower quality. Just like comparing an amateur team to a professional team. They both play the game but at different levels.

@usnavysss Well when it comes to the training they didn't exactly have it easy, TV show or not.
While most things one the show are a lot lighter than what they do to you in Castel, not to mention the "Farm", some things on the show are probably harder in a way.
France still has a relatively mild climate so even though you get pushed to the limit its a lot easier to perform tasks than in the desert, especially without aclimatizing to that environment first.
