  • I remember seeing that video, back then, and I said O.M.G. Jake's back!!! Since then Badlands is my favorite band and Jake will always ROCK my ears!

  • kickass song from possibly my favourite band... someone should request I cover it :O

  • Wonderful song

  • R.I.P Ray. Definitely a powerhouse on vocals!!!

  • put this video on camille mckay,s facebook this is for and my other queens whom i,m i love with!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sharon sucks

  • It was probably Sharon that got rid of him. I am sure she calls of the shots. She is the pimpstress of metal.

  • Shame this band couldn't last....'Badlands' and 'Voodoo Highway' were just fantastic. Losing Ray as early as we did certainly didn't help... :(

  • this is the first time i saw eric singer jam. he rocks on drums!!!

  • @vinmanrocks Singer is an ANIMAL on the kit....listen to his work on KISS' "Revenge" album....SOLID!!!!!

  • Short lived and under the radar. Love this band!

  • not sure too many people will understand when i say, does anybody else hear humble pie influence?

  • @MrJwizzle29 I hear it, but you're reaching on that one.

  • Rest in peace Ray Gillen my brother. I didnt forget you this year on the anniversary of your death.

  • fucking great

  • i dedicate this song to my bandmates headbangersball

  • you got that right tomcatseen ozzy with randy jake and zak. i rate them as randy first then jake and jak bringin up the rear.met badlands at my old stompin grounds HAMMERJACKS and they were cool as shit.ametal band that was sooooo underrated.i hate to see a great band put aside for the likes of ratt and crue.not that they werent good but the caliber of musicians are so much higher in badlands.

  • Badlands is badass as far as im concerned...i have some very fond memories of parties while jammin to these guys.....thanks Ray, Jake, and the rest of the band.

  • I loved ray gillan

  • jake e lee rocks and his drummer eric singer wow!!!!!!

  • one of the best voices in rock....period.

  • @SuperBert1970 His voice is cool, but he only has same falsetto through out. He is great at it but its the same every song. He yells almost every line. He has no, or at least uses no diversity in his voice, It gets boring fast. Even the loud guys, Halford, Dio, etc, sang all different styles of vocal.

  • @all4Hisgloryalone Your judgng this band from a crapy sounding video...I'd suggest you buy the CD (I own) and give it a listen...They were a very tallented band...

The singer RIP died after contracting AIDS. His illness played a role as to why they went their seperate ways.

As for you saying he was a one trick poney, just a screamer, your crazy. This guy sang and could hold a note...He sounded this good all the time including in some of their rehersal clips on YouuTube...

  • is it true that ray got herpes in japan and killed himself????? that's why they have condoms.......

  • @jodonte1 @jodonte1 yer about a dumb motherfucker is what's true.

  • Ray should have with with George Lynch. He had the chance and passed it up several times. Only because he felt bad for Jake. Just think of how great Lynch Mob could have been! Too bad Ray died of Aids. Protections was not an issues back then. What a terrible loss!

  • @jakeinco24 Are you serious Ray felt sorry for Jake lmao you need to get you lies straight. Once Jake was fired by Sharon everybody wanted Jake but he was leary then A mutual friend said Ray wanted to work with Jake so they got together Jake liked the vibe and they went forward BUT Badlands was owned by Jake as far as the name and final word on decisions that was Jakes terms to work with anybody going forward as he will never be put in the position Sharon and Ozzy put him in

  • Man this tune reminds me of Rock n Roll Heaven in Toronto.

    Anybody?

  • LOVE YOU RAY <3<3<3 REST IN PEACEEEE

  • what a set of pipes on this dude

  • another under rated band bandlands kicks ass

  • 6 people are scared of the dark

  • ray gillen era dios vestido de cantante

  • RIP Ray!

  • THIS ALBUM ROCKS, EVERY SINGLE SONG IS GREAT I WILL NEVER KNOW WHY BADLANDS NEVER CAUGHT ON , I GUESS THE SAME REASON THAT " LION" AND SOME OF THE OTHER BANDS SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS UN NOTICED...ROCK ON!!

  • Jake and Ray fucking rock !!!! Some people dont know what there missing!!!!

  • That he was a front man for Deep Purple, Badlands wasnt the only band he was in & that he & other DP singers that were referred to in earlier comments Rocked & some sounded similar!! Such as COVERDALE!! DUH! SO...DP has had some great front men Dio & Ozzy included!

  • Comment removed

  • @Evilsslut Wrong Gillen. Ian Gillan was singer for Deep Purple. This is Ray Gillen.

  • @Evilsslut Someone already pointed out that this is Ray Gillan, not Ian Gillan. But Ronnie James Dio was in Rainbow and Black Sabbath, not Deep Purple. Same with Ozyz, he was in Sabbath, not Deep Purple. So, DP hasnt had the amount of "frontman" as you discribe...

  • Awesome tune!

  • Deep Purple simply has had some of the Greatest front men in Rock and Roll History

  • @Evilsslut what does that have to do with this video ?

  • how did ray gillan die??

  • @02indianscout He died fro AIDS.

  • VERY VERY HIGH VOICE.to bad.aids sucks

  • Love it R.I.P. RAY

  • Ray Gillen sing like Robert Plant and Coverdale.

  • Fantastic! I love this band!!!

  • No he didnt, he had Zack, way better guitarist IMO...

  • BUENA VOZ :)

  • Love this song. First heard it when I stationed at Ft Hood, TX

  • Ray was great but he sounds pretty much like David Coverdale in this song

  • who sings the oringinal version of this song its doing my head in

  • HE WAS 2 YEARS OLDER THEN ME , WE HUNG SAME NY CLUBS , I REMEMBER SEEING HIM ROUND ! ALWAYS A SMILE ON RAYS FACE ! R.I.P BRO , FELLOW ROCKERZ HE MISS RAY ALOT ! AL /NYC /L.A. /VEGAS NO FLEW TH COOP !

  • RIP Ray

  • thank you so much for posting this tune

  • JAKE E. LEE!!!! He gets lost in the conversation of Ozzy's guitarist, but I like his playing style better then Randy's or Zakk's (not that he is a superior player just my prefrence). Bark at the Moon is SICK.

  • @cfrancisco74 glad to see that im no the only one that thinks this too.

  • I am huge Zakk Wylde fan and love his works with Ozzy. But i will also admit that two of my favorite Ozzy albums are Bark at the Moon and Ultimate Sin, the albums with Jake E Lee! Badlands rocks! RIP Ray

  • I guess that boy mustave slept around alot with the groupies and got aids.he was such a poster boy..so good looking.

  • Grea band was one of the best to come out in the 80's, and Jake is God.

  • @LORDGOAT1976 jake is awesome yes,but he is not God.

  • Reminds me of Whitesnake

  • @mediblue9 it does don't it? - I was thinking the same thing....

  • @mediblue9 You're right. Listening to Ray Gillan, I swear he sounds exactly like David Coverdale

  • @mediblue9 My thoughts exactly, nothing bad about that though ^^

  • There is no comparison between Zakk Wylde and Jake E. Lee. Two totally different guitar players with different styles. The only thing in common that they have is Ozzy. Zakk is my favorite guitar player of all time, but Jake E. Lee is an accomplished musician with incredible skill and talent.

  • 3 ppl accidently pressed the wrong button

  • Ozzy fucked up BIG TIME letting Jake go.

  • @tomcat13claws really, think so? yea cause that zakk dude just sucks right? yea dont trip over yourself tom. seriously, like u were blowed out fuckn high when u postd this superior brain fart right?

  • @ronkneisley Zakk doesn't suck, but if you knew anything about music, you would realize Jake is a far more accomplished guitarist--AND he still plays with heart.

As far as anyone being high, you must be buzzed because you can't even write properly, and that would normally be fine but you seem to think you know it all--so, when you write like a fucking retard you just sound like a dunce...

If you don't like Jake get the fuck off this video. Now who's the buzzed one?

    Clean up your act.

  • @tomcat13claws yeah,ozzy sucks these days.

  • long live the king ray \m/ rip and rock on metal rulez !!!!!!!

  • jake if you ever read this i love you with warren, ozzy and especially this badlands please come back into our lives with your talent we miss you!!

  • Like g n' r this is one of those hairbands that are not really a hairband because of their CLASSIC SOUNDS. I really missed all this shit, the only thing i ever liked about the late 80's.

  • Got to see them live with this lineup WAY back in the day in Charlotte, NC. Great show. Jake had a cast on his leg but still played his ass off. Cheers

  • good shit, doing Hair Metal proud \,,/

  • быть вторыми, а то и третьими... не правильно

а помер от спида потому, что сильно звездочку ухватил и девок развел гарем, за что и поплатился. Скромнее надо быть и каноны чтить.

  • is he the singer from the band whitesnake??? he sound exactly the same love 80s music (rock)

  • @MrEssendonfc The singer for this band is Ray Gillen, who was briefly in Black Sabbath. The singer for Whitesnake is David Coverdale.

  • WOW! I had know clue till just now he was dead. R.I.P. Anyone know what ever become of Jake E. Lee? Good Lord willing myself&several others in my family are BLESSED to witness ROB HALFORD open for OZZY & none of have been able to sit still sinse tickets went on sale in September.GOD BLESS Randy Rhodes&DIMEBAG.Also, all the other fallen soldiers in our Rock&Roll world. As well as all you other SOCIETY DWELLIN M.M.rs out there.

  • Revive Ray.

  • Fuck AIDS

  • Glad I got the chance to see them in concert it was a great 80s era triple threat! Badlands, Telsa, and Great White! RIP Ray

  • R.I.P. Ray, we will always love you!:``|

  • This band was fucking BADASSED. R.I.P. Ray.....

  • love Badlands. R.I.P. Ray.

  • I think Winter's Call was their best tune.

This is them trying to be a hair band, which they weren't. At their best they were one helluva blues rock band.

  • A band some of you may not have heard of- tragically, the singer, Ray Gillen(formerly of Black Sabbath) died of AIDS in 1993. This was one of Badlands' best- with Jake E. Lee on guitar. Enjoy!

  • Let's face it, this band sucked. They had all the tools, but there was no magic. The songs were cheesy.

  • @tothatextent ...I don't know about that my friend...

  • @SandGs72 I do know about that. I saw them live and it was painful.

  • @tothatextent ...Still going to have to disagree with you my Canadian friend...

  • I was lucky enough to see them at the West Palm Beach arena sometime in the late 80's. I think it was with Dangerous Toys and Bonham. This is one very underrated 80's supergroup. Awesome album.

  • epic, members of my to favourite artists ,kiss and ozzy

  • D.E.P Ray, we shall meet in heaven or hell... or whatever

  • guys i am looking for a video clip (maybe badlands') that when the solo starts the guitarist comes out from a tent!! It's in the desert!!! PLEASE HELP!!

  • @markos96netfight try dr feelgood by the crue or valley of the kings by blue murder

  • @markos96netfight slash does a similar thing in a gnr vid. november rain i think, but its a church in the desert, a small one.

  • Badlands "Last Time"

  • This album is still one of my favorites. Just a great, bluesy, heavy rock band. And the vocals---wow!

  • jake e lee has had the worst luck

poor guy got fired for no reason and then his lead singer died of aids

  • @UnchainTheNight1 he died of cancer

  • @jn67mn No, it was AIDS.

  • Fantastic shit.

  • RIP, Ray...(;_;)

  • I remember when I was 17 listening to this in my walkman jake e lee is underrated and he kicks ass.

  • jake e lee is so underrated.

  • george lynch was with these guys??? in what year?

  • @SamHammer91 Jake E lee- was with Ozzy on 'Killer of Giants'

  • @SamHammer91 not unless it was in the last few years, BADLANDS was ALLWAYS jakes band

  • Just found these guys about a week ago and I am just blown away... Ray had such a great voice... R.I.P. Ray

  • This band was the saviour of the pathetic way the whole LA rock scene was becoming...ridiculous songs and image bands. A real pity the didnt go on to greater things!Ray was a real singer and was a fuckin cool dude! If anyone is interested he made a cd with mike starr(alice in chains) called sun red sun

  • friggen weird... havent heard this song for a couple decades, im laying in bed, and it creeps into my mind like a ghostly snake, and i make out the words, youtube it; and here i am lol. this song is beautiful.

  • Damn, that guy could wail.

  • I Like em better when they're unknown. like vain and xyz ...anyone remember them?

  • If I wanted to hear music that makes no sense where there is actually some explanation, I'd click over to a Fugazi youtube... this is romantic music by a guys who got laid alot, who died as he lived.

  • what are dreams in the dark? i mean, as opposed to dreams in the light?

does anyone know what this song is about?

  • Fun song but....this album stunk. I was right there in the 80s and was excited when this band came out. Very disappointed. Jake's a great guitar player but the band itself, ughh.

  • Uncultured. There's no other word for you!!

  • @breakingorbit I totally agree. I kept reading about "Jake's new band" in the magazines back in the 80's when Jake got booted from Ozzy. I couldn't wait to hear the album - Jake was my favorite guitarist. Then, it finally came out. What a huge fail. I actually tried to force myself to like it. But no, it just plain sucked. To me it sounded like they were trying to be the new Led Zeppelin.

  • @tothatextent Apparently you never heard Badlands' second album, Voodoo Highway...The first Badlands album was leaps and bounds ahead of most of the other crap out at the time passing for "rock" and Voodoo Highway was killer, but never got any exposure.

  • @deuce1231 I heard all of their shit, and it was just that - shit. They were on the wrong trajectory. They were trying to rehash Zeppelin and the ethos of the time was moving towards Grunge.

  • @tothatextent I beg to differ. Your timeline is skewed by a good 3 or 4 years there. The first Badlands album was released in 1989, recorded in good portion over the course of 1988. Grunge and it's "ethos" hadn't made its way out of Seattle yet (but Queensryche did). Rehash Zeppelin? You missed the mark there, bud. I doubt you listened past High Wire. Do yourself a favor and take another listen, you might be surprised.

  • @deuce1231 Im not saying grunge was out at the same time as Badlands debut. What I am saying is that the public was becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the music scene and it was preparing for change - a change that was not yet defined. Nirvana eventually gave a face for the changed that was longed for. I saw Badlands at Rock n Roll Heaven in Toronto back in '89, they were not good. They had a hard time to sell out bars.

  • Lead Singer sounds like David Coverdale of Whitesnake.

  • Ray Gillen - he was in Black Sabbath circa1987.

He died from an AIDS related illness in 1993.

  • Are You Sure?? I have EVERY Sabbath album and I remember Ian Gillian, Born Again? Ozzy yrs, Ronnie James Dio,Glenn Hughs,Tony Martin But I dont have anything on Ray? 50 yrs old dont think I am losing it yet??

  • @Schon2112 No, you are not losing it. The songs he recorded with Sabbath were never releasesd.

Look up Ray Gillen on wikipedia. He replaced Hughes on the 'Seventh Star' tour AND even recorded a version of the 'The Eternal Idol' album, but was ditched and Tony Martin came in to re-record the vocals for the eventual release.

  • @Schon2112 / I have a video bootleg of him singing on tour with Sabbath. He sounded good but was'nt a good fit for a great singer. You can find the demo's of Gillen singing the Eternal Idol lp. Tony Martin said that he liked Ray's melodies and lyrics so much he just re recorded Gillen's version.

  • @michaels2boys I amjust an Air head..I have Eternal Idol..For some reason I havent been listing to this one like i did in the day.( My Foggy yrs) I see the credits..Got It Thank You!

  • they rocked on vinyl...er...cd. Sorry to say...they stunk live and were very very heavy....and just over the top with the metal. Perhaps that was more of Jakes doing/wanting?

  • shut up.

  • I spent 40 bucks on this album at amazon and its worth every penny...

  • @HeavyMetalNoize I remember buying this and Blue Murder at the same time back in the day!Still have the original Blue Murder Cd and i got the first 2 badlands cd's for 3 dollars at the pawn shop last year!

  • @manzi71

Lucky, im 16 so it was the only way i could get the album. I also got Blue Murder off of itunes.

  • nice little jam.

  • F*#@ Yeah!!!!!!!

  • GREAT BAND

  • 2:03 - 2:15 NICE RIFF!!

  • He died in 1993. Check out the band Sun Red Sun for his work right before he died. Check out Camorock for more Badlands and related music!

  • someone tell me please when Ray Gillen

    die.

  • He died in 1993 of an AIDS related illness. He was a truly epic singer.

  • @awesomedude1133

I thought it was 1992. However a great singer!

  • @awesomedude1133 ,

The drummer is truly an Eric Singer!

  • @awesomedude1133 he died of cancer you fuck head

  • @awesomedude1133 he died of cancer

  • @awesomedude1133 So sad that he past away, but his voice will always go strong!

  • the harmonic is called an artificial harmonic pinching the string between the pick and your thumb produces the sound

  • @in2metal The funny thing about the pinch harmonic is I used to do it without even realizing how it was being done! I just knew that when I picked the string a certain way, it gave me that screeching sound. It wasn't until I really examined my technique that I realized my thumb was hitting it too! Just like string muting, it becomes a part of you so you don't think about it.

  • oh I know..its funny I've beenplayin since I was 17..I think I started doing without even thinking about it too..its great when you hit that....hammer on the whammy bar..then slide down the neck..god I love it!! hey thanks for responding..its always nice to talk another guitar player.

  • Another thing I like doing is hitting the harmonic and then flicking the toggle switch like Ace Frehley always used to do in KISS. There's another thing I like doing (don't know what it's called). You just touch the string like when you do a natural harmonic and go up and down the neck. At the same time you do fast tremelo picking. If I'm improvising and I'm not sure what to do, it's my trick technique.!

  • Epic!!!!!!!!!

  • There is NO DOUGHT that this band would of been HUGE......they were so tight and ray Gillan, well what can you say about Ray...he was great !! R. i . P. Ray....miss you and your voice.

  • Look at the competition of the day. This wasn't comercial enough.Good for guitar heads but thats it.

  • I don't think they ever wanted to be huge. They just wanted to play. Lee, probably even more so...

  • I was just stopped in a grocerie store and this lady said I looked like this singer. She swore up and down it was him and freaked. I don't see the resemblence.

  • HEY run with it chicks loved that dude!!! the eddie van halen shit got me....tons..of kitty!!!...LOL~!!!

  • @PB4UEAT total agreement! ray was fuckn awesome remembere sun red sun with mike starr? nevr be able to forget rays voice. and how many freakn bands has singer playd with. wait, let me take off my shoes

  • They are on the road they drink or do drugs , gay, straight, bi, tri, and don't forget groupies and hookers, What a shame What a DAMN shame. Good song Good singer very sad.

  • Nice to see Ray Gillen-RIP

  • What a beautiful looking man WOW! Such a sad loss. Great singer too.

  • I couldn't agree with you more. There is something magnetic about him yet he's gone.

  • No,he wasn't gay.Just the mighty needle, you know.....It's sad enough...I saw Badlands as the relief from the bad glam bands of the late 80's,and they quit too soon to make a difference.Jake is still great ,though...

  • did he have aids or cancer? Some say cancer the others say aids. Which was it??

  • He contracted the AIDS virus. WASTE. WHAT A WASTE

  • You reap what you sow... he didn't get AIDS from stepping on a rusty nail you know.....

  • What are you saying, he deserved it? He was asking for it? Who the hell are you to judge anyway? Nobody deserves to go out like that. Show some goddamn respect.

  • What does "deserve" have to do with anything? He was a kick ass singer in a kick ass band, and died because he engaged in risky behaviour. It's a damn shame, but all things in life carry consequeces.

  • Yeah, but "reap what you sow" is a bit too close to "reap the whirlwind" you know what I mean? Sounds a bit Jerry Falwell, a bit judgemental. I'm not saying thats what you meant, or its cool to blindly worship rock stars, I just wondered why you would choose to answer in that way, the original comment didnt seem to warrant it..

  • how did he die?

  • guitar players card, I had this album when it came out; the whole record sounds like Led Zeppelin ,,, The thing about Jake he's happy with anything that's why ozzy probably hired him..

  • I know that I'm gonna lose my guitar player card for this, but I like Jake better than Randy or Zakk...

  • I won't get into the whole "who's better?" thing, but I will agree that Jake was my favorite of all the Ozzy guitarists...he's one of my favorite of all time and I thought Badlands had all the potential in the world to do great things
