I invited God to come into my life without much understanding of the sin more than 20 years ago. And then He started the process of sanctification in me and growing me in the knowledge of the Holiness of God. Then I entered into life of repentance and change God is love and He is faithful to reveal and teach things one didn't know in the first presentation of the Gospel, and some of you will call it incomplete gospel. Back then I didn't even know what sin really means ... God's grace taught me
I am purposely driven to say that pastor MacArthur has hit the nail half on the head. Yes the gospel is foundational to salvation and awareness of God's judgement and wrath and the necessity of repentance. But before you go and "cast the first stone" check your house for windows.
funny...I have the book on cd...Rich Warren clearly talks about hell if one does not have Jesus. John macarthur is a man of God...but he doesn't correctly represent Rick Warrens book. John leaves out some material....just like he says Rick does in reference to the Gospel. Is it possilbe that I have an updated version of the book??
@zitan17 OK, I get from reading your post how it could be sarcastic. It's tough figuring out what people mean over the Net. Maybe we can't save a person from hell, but we can surely show them the way. Can't we?
@zitan17 The Gospel is the WHOLE issue! Without it, there's no Christianity. And if you saw someone drowning and you had the power to pull them out, don't you think it would be wrong not to? If you can keep someone out of hell, it would be wrong to keep quiet about the only thing that can save them. Peace and unity are good, but the Gospel is the best.
I was a follower of Rick Warren's. I am so ashamed to admit that I had no idea whatsoever that he wasn't preaching the Word in its entirety. Thank you, John, and all the other pastors who called my attention to it. Do not be discouraged! Without you, I could have been led astray. I now compare every preacher to the Bible.
I agree with John MacArthur...I wish Rick Warren had more boldness to state (still with kindness, love and graciousness) the full gospel message. I don't understand why he doesn't......the full gospel message will transform lives. The watered down message may lead some to Christ regardless, but it may also disillusion many others.
Why do pastors feel it's necessary to nit pic about something that's not really any big issue? Why isn't John MacArthur encouraging and promoting peace and unity among the Body of Christ instead of creating division and walls? Rick Warren is by no means perfect, but neither is John MacArthur, nor am I.
If this preacher had a life of prayer, like passed 8 hours a day in prayer like Benny Hinn by example, he surely will experiencing death of his own life, and and had a view completly different of his actuel thinking. He crucify the christians who had a real communion with Christ exactly with the same spirit that animated the pharisies who crucify Jésus the Son of God. Pray please, pray and pray more with humility and you will experience the reality of the life of Christ livin through you.
Awww, com'n, John. Rick's not gonna sell 10 million copies of his book if he preaches the gospel in it! :/
That said, is that book MEANT to be an evangelistic tract? I mean, truly, with its sales record, it'd be darn nice if he included a chapter on the gospel, but... was it core to his point in the book. Eh. I guess you'd say it couldn't be a very helpful God-centred book without the gospel.
A gospel presentation that adds anything to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, is not the good news. Its just more law. Galatians is a great book btw.
watered down gospel, but if a person is truly searching for the truth, God will use whatever He wants to reach us. Rick talks about believing in ch 7, but I did not believe until ch 23. That's the day that I got on my knees and called on Jesus name and He came and I surrenderedmy whole life to Him. I had Godly sorrow and I felt His holiness and His love for me, He forgave me and I became born-again of God. I will tell you again, God can use any book that man writes because it's God's word that.
O, ya will love what I have to say. 4 years ago I wanted to be saved, I did not know what that really entailed but I wanted it. I started to watch Oprah because I had told myself that she was going to help me, and she was always saying, "I got it". So one day she had a guest that was reading TPDL and I went and bought it and started to read it. I had never read the Bible and it has a lot of verses. What JOHN Mac is saying is right, but please don't be so hard on Rick, he ispresenting a...continu

good thing that God is sovereign in the salvation of His elect, or else this book might actually have an effect.

Amen, John. That is exactly what I thought when I read that part in The Purpose-Driven Life. We must repent when we put our faith in Jesus.

Well, then, John, say that! Don't dally.
