well, the Army still refuses to allow females into combat MOS's. not saying that they wont see combat, because they get sent outside the wire every now and then too. but they cant be with the infantry guys out there kicking in doors every day. the army has its reasons for it.
Alot of you are saying that men are mentally stronger. I do agree that most of the time, men are physically stronger than women, but the mental part varies by individual. And considering how much a female soldier has to go through on a daily basis (periods, possible harassment etc.) on top of staying focused in a war zone is something to ponder.
But thanks to ALL the soldiers who risk their lives (not just on the "front lines" either.)
I served in Iraq and I can tell you these women do a great job but they don't ever belong in the infantry, it's just too physical. But I am proud to belong to a country that has such tough women.

what if the woman is 5'10''and weighs 170 pounds? (like my cousin who served in the army and is now a cop) There are some women out there who are just as big and strong as most of then men in their unit. I watched a documentary that showed a famous female MMA They tested her punching power and found out her punch landed with the same amount of psi as a male MMA in the same weight class. It is possible for some women to achieve the same strength level as men.
That's my point I'm not trying to argue that women are as strong as men. They're generally not. But SOME women are as strong as men. If they meet the physical requirements why shouldn't they be on the frontlines? Other countries do allow women to fight in frontlines. My cousin would have no problem carrying my 160 pound body on her back in full gear. She looks pretty intimidating in uniform.

I understand that 1 in 3 females in the US military now has been raped or has been a victim of attempted rape by male personnel. These figures are of course subject to scrutiny but given that many females will not report sexual assault for fear of reprisal then it's safe to assume that the figures are somewhat legitimate. If this is how American male service personnel treat females within their ranks, can you imagine how they treat females in villages that they occupy?

i've been in the infantry for 6 years. the job will break men down. being a grunt takes a retard switch to turn off things that will make the average person quit. i believe that after the heavy fighting in iraq was over and women started being integrated into drivers and gunners on a truck, people think they're doing something now. not so. trust a 3 tour combat infantryman, when you're in the element and fighting a conventional fight the battle field holds no place for a woman.

How does strength factor into it? I hear this argument a lot, but I don't understand. You don't have to be that strong to carry a plate carrier and ammo, and your rifle. You don't have to be strong to fire your weapon. You don't even have to be strong to disable a soldier in hand-to-hand combat. So why does it matter if women fight?

They're never going to be let into combat MOS roles, in the next decade they won't even be able to fire a gun out of training. They're discussing limiting them from all roles that can enter combat and it will be implemented in the next decade.
Then why are there women currently serving in combat and doing quite admirably? We have trouble reaching enlistment quotas with an all-volunteer force, and if a woman can make the grade, why not let them? The enemy doesn't check for what parts you have before they fire at you.
There are none, you are right. But that has little to do with strength. There are women in MP battalions, and they walk on the same streets as infantrymen and get shot at. There are women serving on "attached" duty to combat outfits, and they participate in the same firefights. Women are in combat, it's just not official.

She may be a gunner, but she aint in an infantry unit. This is nothing special, all units have to go out into the fields occasionally and everyone in the army is trained in basic infantry skills. Being able to fire a 50 cal? Pffft every grunt can do that, and worlds more. Im sure in basic she didnt have to meet the same requirements as the guys in PT. She probably got an extra 5 minutes every morning to get ready.

At the same time though, while I appreciate a woman behind the gun, this chick makes a great point. "There's not many females out there who will push themselves to get the physical strength they need to manhandle a .50 caliber machine gun up onto the truck and back down again" -- I've seen plenty of women over there up in turrets and in checkpoints but, while I appreciate and respect them, I don't want them on a foot patrol with me. What's your point? An M2 is -NOT- that hard to lift up onto the hood, then move to the roof, then mount. It's a 60 pound (+/-) receiver. Then again, your navy, your a subby as well which also explains why you don't have experience lifting this kind of weapon or mounting it to a vehicle. No offense, my parents were navy and, as a submariner, you really have no room to comment on something like this. I'd compare you to people that never deploy if I had to.
It's also a weapon we routinely handed to gunners who were already standing on the roof. Sure, completely set up it weights over 100 lbs, but we're handing it up in pieces because only an idiot would try to move it effectively by himself with the barrel screwed in.

By the way, come on... it's already logically and scientifically clear that the average male body is stronger than the female body.
HOWEVER, it also depends on each individual.
For example, there are some physical tasks that a female the same age and same diet of a male can't do that the male can.
Another example is that in training and exercising men tend to show faster and bigger results.

Uhh... They still conscript women in the IDF and they are still in combat roles. That blurb about how 5 men would go to save one female soldier putting the entire unit at risk is from an article that's from 2003. Infact my cousin was on the frontlines who she did her tour in Afghanistan.
As a matter of fact plenty of U.S groundside support troops are seeing plenty of action even though they are technically not suppose to.

I was in the Territorial army for only 5 years, and I was in the Artillery so I did not really see that much action and certainly was not in that situation. Hmm but I think that if you do get into that situation its your duty to protect you own life andothers. It could be the death of you, if you get distracted by a fallen comrade.

I understand that 1 in 3 females in the US military now has been raped or has been a victim of attempted rape by male personnel. These figures are of course subject to scrutiny but given that many females will not report sexual assault for fear of reprisal then it's safe to assume that the figures are somewhat legitimate. If this is how American male service personnel treat females within their ranks, can you imagine how they treat females in villages that they occupy?

i've been in the infantry for 6 years. the job will break men down. being a grunt takes a retard switch to turn off things that will make the average person quit. i believe that after the heavy fighting in iraq was over and women started being integrated into drivers and gunners on a truck, people think they're doing something now. not so. trust a 3 tour combat infantryman, when you're in the element and fighting a conventional fight the battle field holds no place for a woman.

I believe the military should take a page from God's book.God has used women to do jobs for him:Esther who saved her people from being murdered,and Deborah who was a prophet and fought in a war which is rare.If God sees women fit to do work for his kingdom that he would normally send a man to do, then the military can trust that a woman's shoulders can bear its weight just like a man.Opportunities can show the many sides to a person -sides you would have never known had the opportunity not come.

How does strength factor into it? I hear this argument a lot, but I don't understand. You don't have to be that strong to carry a plate carrier and ammo, and your rifle. You don't have to be strong to fire your weapon. You don't even have to be strong to disable a soldier in hand-to-hand combat. So why does it matter if women fight?

They're never going to be let into combat MOS roles, in the next decade they won't even be able to fire a gun out of training. They're discussing limiting them from all roles that can enter combat and it will be implemented in the next decade.

Then why are there women currently serving in combat and doing quite admirably? We have trouble reaching enlistment quotas with an all-volunteer force, and if a woman can make the grade, why not let them? The enemy doesn't check for what parts you have before they fire at you.

There are none, you are right. But that has little to do with strength. There are women in MP battalions, and they walk on the same streets as infantrymen and get shot at. There are women serving on "attached" duty to combat outfits, and they participate in the same firefights. Women are in combat, it's just not official.

She may be a gunner, but she aint in an infantry unit. This is nothing special, all units have to go out into the fields occasionally and everyone in the army is trained in basic infantry skills. Being able to fire a 50 cal? Pffft every grunt can do that, and worlds more. Im sure in basic she didnt have to meet the same requirements as the guys in PT. She probably got an extra 5 minutes every morning to get ready.

At the same time though, while I appreciate a woman behind the gun, this chick makes a great point. "There's not many females out there who will push themselves to get the physical strength they need to manhandle a .50 caliber machine gun up onto the truck and back down again" -- I've seen plenty of women over there up in turrets and in checkpoints but, while I appreciate and respect them, I don't want them on a foot patrol with me. They're a liability and not in the way you think I mean.

What's your point? An M2 is -NOT- that hard to lift up onto the hood, then move to the roof, then mount. It's a 60 pound (+/-) receiver. Then again, your navy, your a subby as well which also explains why you don't have experience lifting this kind of weapon or mounting it to a vehicle. No offense, my parents were navy and, as a submariner, you really have no room to comment on something like this. I'd compare you to people that never deploy if I had to.
