I saw this video in the early 70's when she was on the Muppets. Next to "Long, Long Time, it is my favorite LR song of all time. My God can she sing! and those eyes. Simply beautiful. Timeless.
The difference between youth and the aged is that the young have dreams, the aged have regrets. May we never be too old to have dreams.
God bless you Linda for your voice has truly blessed us.
I'm 52 never to old to dream years old. This show will always be one of my favorites because it brings to memory laughing with my children and now my grandchildren...
I also dedicate this song to my friend, Alexia Morris. We were friends when we were in first grade. When I was in sixth grade of 2009, my mom told me that she died of an unknown illness. I was just sad for a long time. I dedicate this to you, Alexia. You are in a better place with God and with Jesus. Those who remember you miss a lot. 0:-)
The biggest stars all wanted to do The Muppet Show. That show was so damn awesome. It would be great if they had the show today, but they'd probably have idiots like Gaga, Beyonce, Jay-Z on. Puke.

Yes, I remember watching this in my parents' family room - late 70's(?). We always watched The Muppets on Saturday night. I'd never heard this song before and it knocked me out then and still does. I have a soft spot for Linda Ronstadt, Kermie and all The Muppets. A little teary eyed right now....must be all the memories....
The first time I saw this show, I said I wanted it at my funeral. That was what, 1978 or something? I still do. It has haunted me ever since. Maybe cause it was my dad's song from WW2 and Vera Lynn. Ronstadt, you are the Goddess of us all!!
Gosh o-mighty. Linda is so in the pocket with this song. See this is what being around other creative people can do for you. Notice at the end of this song Jim Henson is nodding Kermit's head like."yeah Linda you knocked this out the park."
I love this show. And it NEVER gets old..although I am and greying as well.
Linda singing this song still leaves me weak. My GOD what a voice. Nothing will ever compare to it, I dont care if it is 500 years from now. Way to go Linda , it will always leave me weak hearing this song.
@ricardovmonteiro She's part Mexican also, she embraces her heritage. Man, she was stop a clock beautiful!! So what if she's put on a few, still one beautiful woman period!
My heart just melts when I hear this, especially when Linda Ronstadt is singing it. The song was composed by Sigmund Romberg, who arrived broke in the U.S. in 1908 in his early 20s. As a birthday present eons ago, I got a vinyl Mantovani record with the music of Victor Herbert and Sigmund Romberg, including this song. Then, decades later in the 1970s, here's Linda, who once again successfully reinvented herself w/ Nelson Riddle, singing this song so beautifully on The Muppets Show. WOW!!!!
She looks sooo pretty. This is wonderful. Huge fan of the Muppets. I miss them. I grew up watching their movies and TV shows (Muppet Babies BEST CARTOON EVER)
What can one say after watching this? It's so simple and honest, yet so powerful. All I can say is, to anyone, if this doesn't touch you, then you're a heartless bastard. It's that good a performance.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The first line of lyrics: "We have been gay..." Remember when the word 'gay' meant happy, joyous and could be interpreted as a positive feeling of one's soul expressed by an elated expression of the heart? Today's twisted morals and cultures have perverted even the impression of this word... Just a small example of where human society is heading....
Great tune! Great snger! I will play as many of her CD's today as I can I have over 24, so that will be hard! Along with 2 DVD's. And pulled out all her LP's to read liner notes.
When I Grow Too Old To Dream Words & Music by Oscar Hammerstein II & Sigmund Romberg Recorded by Linda Ronstadt, 1978. I believe Linda said this was her best (or favorite) performance of this song. Really wonderful moment.
@accuristau Her voice has the best tone of all females. Can't hear any air going over the vocal cords. I would love to hear her sing a song with the deceased Eddie Fisher (Carie's father). He had the best tone of all the guys, I think. BTW, the Muppets do a heck of a ob with the harmony on this one too.I don't save many to my hard drive, but I sure saved this one.
o my god, I remember watching this for the first time when I was a kid. Her voice always stuck with me and I decided to youtube it now. Thanks for posting.
I always loved and still do her singing ! Used to listen to this song at night AFTER I'd gone to bed and the bit in this song when it gets loud I'd have to quickly turn the volume waaaay down so my parents didn't know I was playing music when I should've been asleep ! This was in the days of cassette recorders - way before ipods !!
no, she's NOT still beautiful. Everyone has a thyroid problem, right? nobody just eats too much food and sits on their ass!

Funny "kbirdusa" how you associate fat with bitter, as an ignorant pus that you are, you forget that she has nothing to be bitter about: she's talented beyond compare, is critically acclaimed, successful, beloved, very pretty, and very rich. Hell - weight you can lose. And don't know what she would be bitter about - but maybe you mistake bitter for telling the truth, sometime what ignorant people don't like to hear. I'd rather be bitter than ignorant.
It's too bad that people like you cannot accept life's changes. This video is 27 yrs. old. So what if she put on weight. She is still a beautiful woman. Your perception that she is bitter must come from the fact that she is also outspoken about the insane war that Mr. Bush started. If Linda and the Vegas night club incident happened today, there would not have been an incident. As usual for Linda, she was before her time. You must be one of the 25% US citizens that support Mr Bush's war.
Well said, johnsonoman!!! Too bad some people cant get past this post-911, Bush-Cheney, et. al-inspired fear mongering,war-for-profit mentality...Linda is way too classy for any haters and their ignorant, hate-filled, Fox News inspired comments...
Absolutely! We all need to be more outspoken. As far as Linda's weight, it's known that she had a thyroid illness which contributed to her gaining all that weight. She's still beautiful and sounds great at 62. Brava!!
@johnsonoman re: Linda' Ronstadts comments on Pres. Bush: Your analysis is a perfect illustration of why entertainers shouldn't take sides in public on political matters. It's bad for business. Instead of being entertained by her performance, you're taking the occasion to think about her political comments.
Elvis, on the other hand, kept his mouth shut. His era had an unpopular war, two unpopular presidents, campus & civil unrest, etc. But Elvis wouldn't talk politics. Good career move.

I sang this at my father's graveside service. He always liked Linda Ronstadt's voice...I don't think my voice was going to get her kicked out of the music industry, but her performance of this inspired me.
love linda that song was one of my late mothers favourites first time i heard linda sing it since i saw her with the muppets since about 1891 it brought tears to my eyes
One of the most beautiful performance from The Muppet Show. This was used in the 'Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years' special back in 1985. Set to a series of clips from The Muppets through the years. Truly a tearjerker.
those were some of the most intense full body goosebumps I've ever had.

I sang this at my father's graveside service. He always liked Linda Ronstadt's voice...I don't think my voice was going to get her kicked out of the music industry, but her performance of this inspired me.

She was one of the only singers who didn't lip-synch on that show. Amazing vocal performance.

One of the most beautiful performance from The Muppet Show. This was used in the 'Muppets: A Celebration of 30 Years' special back in 1985. Set to a series of clips from The Muppets through the years. Truly a tearjerker.
