Bowie himself remarks that his setlist is particularly glum up to that point and specifically states that he does not see himself as a depressive or melancholy person but it worries him how easily such things come to him for his lyrics- like it's an indication of the world in general.

Don't know if I'm explaining it right. I don't know the name of the interviewer, but it was one of his more recent interviews.
