  • WOW!!! WHAT A MUSICAL GENIUS!!! REALLY TOUCHES THE SOUL. SAD TO BELIEVE THAT OUR "BELOVED" COUNTRY DID SO MANY PEOPLE WRONG. YET THEY SAY THERE'S A "WAR ON DRUGS." BULLSHIT!!!! BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES SUPPLYING IT.

  • the pain aw the PAAIIIN.1:40 that note he hit killed it

  • LG wit HD gives a clear view of life!!!!!

  • It's a dual layered song. It's about his addiction to cocaine but he substituted it with weed as that was what he was referring to when saying "I know i'm hooked my friend to the boy which makes slaves out of men" but it is also indeed about the soldiers in Vietnam seeking an escape.

  • @SPTO This song has literally nothing to do with marijuana or cocaine. It's about heroin.

  • @SPTO 'boy' is slang for heroin and 'girl' is slang for cocaine, I can't know if Marvin was aware of that, but i guess he was and although the song clearly relates to any addiction, that specific line is one of the reasons I believe it's written more about heroin than just drugs in general, also as heroin became a common affliction for many vietnam vets and we know Marvin was inspired by his brothers letters back home when making this album.

  • This song had nothing to do with his addiction. It was about Viet Nam.

  • @4Xderrick not true white people or top brass dropped morphine in boxes into the bushes for all troops in vietnam. troops returned home, black troops couldnt find jobs, couldnt find morphine but found herron.

  • The Lyrics is About Vietnam Vets...Fighting in The Jungle...Tryin To Cope, Knowing The Next Day...The Fire Fights Will Continue....

  • This song is so depressing, you can hear how tortured he was with dealing with his addict(s). That not with-standing, this is song is so cool! And, whoever is on that bass, they bring this song to life, and help to give it that feeling of melancholy that Marvin Gaye provides with his somber lyrics. Yeah, this is a song of a deeply tormented man, but it is still so cool!

  • That was "...you can hear how tortured he was with dealing with his addiction(s).". Darn computer, or silly whipper-snapper not paying attention to what he was typing, one of the two:)

  • well done.....I passed it on.

  • Good Job !!!!
