@hoppercap You, 'sir', are the tool. Go jerk off to some nickelback or whatever nonsense you think is cool. But stay away from Chomsky. He might learn you something.
@optimistsRUS Thanks for tuning in! This is a Chomsky speech ("On propaganda", i believe) that is available on many different youtube videos without any annoying drums to ruin your experience.
Thank you very much for the response. No offense to Dr. Dre, I was frustrated because I wasn't expecting music, I am so ignorant that I thought "Dr. Dre" meant it was going to be some intellectual talk and not music.
@optimistsRUS Pretty much. But I liked it. I think there should be more informative anarchist rap instrumentals in the world, and i'm just trying to do my part.
Loving this conversation, ya'll. Truly. Metaldove is my new hero.
Who do I have to insult to keep it going?
Maybe if I say Jay Z *is* subversive, but you wouldnt know it unless you have taken more than 3 minutes to listen to him on the radio on your way to the mall with your little sister?
The notion that an artist who is intelligent enough to work with the tools available in the 'mainstream' music industry is a 'sellout', or corporate propaganda' is a cliche of the whiite suburban punk rock culture. 'Yeah, we can't allow poor people to make money and own their own companies. Their supposed to join our white elite intellectual revolution!"
by standing on the throats of people, like jay z, who earned his fortune...i don't like his music, but that is irrelevent.
you do not have to be wealthy to be able to see what is right and what is wrong.
if jay z makes 10 million dollars the irs will steal 5 million. the irs didn't sell any records. produce any shirts, mix anyhting, no, they steal because they can.
what does obama suggest, we take still more from jay z and the other 1% of america.
NYTimes had a story that 10 million is the BOTTOM of true wealth in America, minimum level to get invited to high society.
Some was earned by producing useful stuff people want. Nowadays, big way to make money is to do an LBO, fire as many people as possible, sell parts, take on vast debt using co and employee pension fund as collateral, milk it to death.
Other methods speculating on intl currencies and mortgage-backed securities, and govt subsidy.
@theMETALDOVE Taxes are a part of life. Render unto Ceaser and all that. You people had no problem paying for taxes under a Republican Administration. And don't give me that 'i'm an independent' crap. It's as transparent as Karl Rove is gay.
it has always baffled me that libs and leftist are so concerned over everybodies salry. why? jay z could be the richest man in the world for all i care. the fact that he came from such humble beginnings is his most admirable trait.
my point was that he is not a rebel. he may have been at one time, but that was probably at least 10 or 20 million dollars ago.
i'm all for the empowerment and wealth for individuals, any individual, it;s the govt. empowering itself that i have the problem with
You do know that this track does not feature Jay-Z, right? It's Noam Chomsky. I only brought up Jay-Z because you guys seemed to be discussing 'gangster rappers,', and there is a version of this song featuring his vocals. This isn't that version, though.
Also, i have no idea why your \rambling on about President Obama, or the IRS, exactly. Is that in relation to something Chomsky is saying about Corporate Propaganda and how the public mind is shaped and molded?
i didn;t think it was jay z.. jay z productions are more polished and his voice is quite distinct.
i wondered about that rambliing after i closed up the macbook. it was an entirely new subject and was being explained incoherently. i'm not a strong closer.
i guess i was pointing out how jay z earned his money whether you liked him or not--and how unfair for obama or any president to want, to compel 40% righ off the top.
you never mentioned who your fave. politc thinkers are?
Also, do you have any specific comments in relation to the video, or merely other people's comments?
The main reason I chose to mix these two tracks (and the dead prez video) together was i thought they worked well with each other--"Corporate Propaganda is "Watching you". Get it, yes?
My hope is maybe, just maybe, someone looking for a Jay Z or Dr. Dre video might get turned on to Mr. Chomsky's concepts being discussed here.
you mean just because they clearly pander to the sensibilities of the white suburban class who incidentally are happy to give their money to any such "artist" that makes them, the pimple faced 17 year old white boy in the hyundaiu, feel just a little bit tougher. ...(i know that's a run on sentence, incidentally. i was going for the record)
what makes this video so "tight"? seriously, what was the part or aspect that stuck out for you? was there a moment when you said damn "honey, are the kids in bed? get my blunts and come in here. i want you to watch this. bring a 20 pound bag of dorrtos too"

is it true that chomsky played the bass on kiss' "detroit rock city" ?

@theMETALDOVE No, that was Bakunin or maybe Bookchin. But Chomsky has been known to work with Immortal Teknique! I've even go the video to prove it.

@optimistsRUS ah, yes, a speech by well-known physicist Dr. Dre of Compton California. :-)
Be careful ,i have another chomksy speech with annoying drums on my channel, too.

@resteep,
I'm sure your post helped spread the message to people who were searching for Dr. Dre and weren't familiar with Noam Chomsky.
optimistsRUS 1 year ago
@optimistsRUS That's probably what i had hoped, but i suspect most people had an experience similar to yours.
Oh well.
Chomsky's just boring and monotone, i thought i'd make it more interesting.

@resteep,
Yeah, probably Chomsky fans didn't like the music and Dr. Dre fans didn't like the talking :D

And Chomsky doesn't say "GGeah!" and "It's the Roc" very often. at least not here.
I have no interest in debating the merits of the US tax system in this thread.
For the sake of the vid, let us say i like some of what Chomsky says, depending on the specific issues.
