And from i see, the specs are better on the air. the series 9 has a 1.3ghz core i5 and the air has a 1.7ghz core i5. the air has a higher res screen 1440x900 (1366x768 on series 9). both have 4gbs of ram and use the HD3000 graphics. Where does the series 9 have better specs?

Also I think the Sony Vaio S series is a much better value than the Z. It is 3.8lbs, 7.5hr battery standard, SSD available up to 1tb, 6630M gpu available. The real kicker is it has the core i5 clocked at 2.30 with turbo boost to 2.90ghz or 2.50ghz to 3.20ghz, and it has the option to get a core i7 processor too. It starts at $899

here's the best solution to all of this.....get a netbook for ~$300, install mac osx on it, along with windows and ubuntu. there you have a triple booted hackintosh for $300. done!

If I wanted an ultra-portable, I'd probably get the Air, considering it's so competitively priced. When it was just the enthusiast's laptop, priced starting at $1600 or so, it wasn't a viable option for the majority. But at $1000, it's a fair price.

However, I've seen some of the others on this list (as well as some other unmentioned ultraportables) that go for quite a bit less when you're looking out for deals.

Anyway, I'll stick with more powerful, less expensive 15-inchers for a while.
