There is a wonderfully written canine character -a Clumber Spaniel- in Laura Ingleby's novel, "English Mirrors: Healing by Degrees" Olga Minois Press. A good read.
I love clumbers and I'm seriously thinking about buying one. However, never kneel before or lower your head to the same level as a dog. Any dog. Even your own. They take it as a sign of weakness and submission and consequently there is a very good chance you will be bitten. I've seen it happen to so called dog owners many, many times.
