An organist must play the room and its acoustics. Just because you CAN play a piece 100 miles per hour, doesn't mean you SHOULD. Too fast, and the subtleties of the music are lost in the blur and the wall of sound.
you're right oofahman, he is adorable..plays damned well, too! But I have to agree with TheGetterdoneboy, that the peice need to be played slower...rather like Widor's, Toccata...it's played all too fast by most organists; as Widor complained. I remember talking with Carlo Curlee, I asked him why he played the Widor so fast and he responed, "Because I can." This might answer our question about Nobile, it's "Because he can." Oh well, I digress...but he's still adoralble!
young man your organ talents are fresh and very interpretive; your are so fortunateto get to play on these giant instruments; I have only played on one in Montréal; and the St. Joseph's oratory;was 5 manual built by Ksovant pipes.keep playing and blessing; your type of music. You are also a cool dude organist.
I say this because my godfather was a very good friend of Virgil. He told me when he viewed this piece that it was different somewhat from Virgils' arrangement, but had the passion that Virgil wanted to in instill with the organ.
Where have you been hiding, Arthur;) I didn't time it but I think you are faster than Bish. Better looking too lol You look like you love what you are doing.
i havent heard much of this guy but i gotta say thank god one more person took the courage like virgil fox and diane bish to step away from the typical boring taught way of organ playing. they are always criticized for not playing things the way they are "supposed to be played" but i doubt any two recent performers have had more fame than virgil and diane and they deserve it. keep up the good playing mr nobile. we are definitely listening and you are part of those few at the top of the pedistal
That was an excellent performance on a terrible organ. What a screeching screaming harsh wreck. Ruffati always manages to take the cake at building the world's *worst* organs. Add Rodgers into it and it doesn't stand a chance.
There were recently some very nasty things said about Arthur's music...this is simply jealousy. I really think his "critics" should take into consideration the new and fresh image this talented artist provides.
Definitely! The first time I saw him, I couldn't stop thinking about the way he used his feet. They seem to stay part of the music, even when they're moving up or down to a new note, or pushing an expression pedal. It's continuous, I think that that is what causes the 'stomp' that Bish and he share.
It's about time that someone makes the organ interesting and alive instead of 'dead'. Arthur knows how to make it the 'King of the Instruments'. Move into the 21st century.
First there is nothing "sloppy" about this playing. I heard Arthur perform on this organ -- he is both "artist and liturgist." I know he tried to recreate the same organ at Coral Ridge Church -- I have to say he certainly is brillant....I agree with "inthecrowd903" -- we need more people like him at the organs of the world...
I think the intention was to have the reeds "out of tune" -- are they ever really in tune...? if you go to his sight you will learn that he designed this digital instrument and made it to sound like a ruffatti... (which it does)... as for the "sloppy" pedal technique -- I don't see that...it looks like he his dancing on the pedals instead of just playing them...
Way tooooo FAST Sir!!!!

You make this look so easy.
Was difficult for me.
Even Virgil kept hitting "brush notes".
There are some parts I am not hearing.
