Classic, I was a little girl when this was filmed, I remember being on the set when it was made. I haven't seen in a long time. Great job Mr Mosely on playing my great grandfather.
I highly recommend this movie, I just love it, it's really really good. It's become one of my all time favorites, the kind you don't mind watching multiple times. You can find copies on eBay for $10 and less! It use to be really scarce & hard to find, it's is uncommon to find, but check eBay, I got mine!
@GuitarsAreMagic Obviously you didn't watch this whole movie. Leadbelly killed, drank a lot, and wasn't there for his family. Yeah, a real class act. People back then were not much different than they are now. The difference was that they had less, worked harder, and less access to other things. Now-a-days everything is available to most people and everything that we do gets exposure. And how can you conclude that everybody play music for money & if they do, what's wrong with that??
@GuitarsAreMagic Killing over women, killing over pocket change, killing because somebody had too much to drink, killing because of skin color, etc. are no better than killing because it's "cool."
@thequesnelkid It's called Leadbelly and it's a really good movie. I was lucky enough to have found it on some sight a few years ago and was able to download it. If I find the link I'll send it to you. Just email me your address. Also, you can buy it off of ebay I believe.
The playing, while nice (and it's an enjoyable scene generally) doesn't resemble Leadbelly's at all. As a lifelong fan of his unique style, I was sad that Parks seemed unable or unwilling to find someone who could reproduce Huddie's style.
@alonzogarbanzo Come on Man... You know they had to drum it up for Hollywood. Leadbelly's generation was eventually built upon and they had update it/play a more modern style to keep the average American's attention.
@MTXSHO9732vV8SHO Right. I'm sure that was Parks' reasoning. But surely you're not saying that is a justification for distorting history? Shall we put Shakespeare into street talk or render Bach as three chords then so "average Americans'" attention span isn't too challenged?
@alonzogarbanzo LMAO! Actually, that might be the only way it would work for the Idiocracy generation!
But , we can tell from the lack of understanding about the history of Rock & Roll, a recent accomplishment when compared to Shakespeare or Classical Composers that the average American has about ZERO interest in establishing anything resembling a culture.
It's difficult not to care about the details when you have your heart in something but the only thing people think about are themselves.
@iresun The 1976 film Leadbelly. I saw this movie late one night on a work night. I stayed up all night watching it, it was so awesome. Parts made me sob (hard to watch the chain gang parts). I became obsessed with Leadbelly and searched everywhere for this movie & soundtrack. I traced it back to New York and had a copy of the film sent to me (easier to find now online). The artist singing in the movie is not Leadbelly, but also has an amazing voice. Leadbelly is AMAZING! A gift to the world.
Hey I remember this movie. Good flick with Magnum PI's TC playing Leadbelly. Very hard to find though - I lost my tape years ago and have been trying to find elsewhere. Thanks.
I remember a while back, last year for sure, youtube had the entire movie but it seems to not to be on here any more :( its too bad cuz its a great movie, not THE best, but still a real good film.
Thanks, wonderful to hear these great musicians play. I did not know that Dick Rosmini had died in 95'. Bruce Langhorne from the same era is very ill I have heard. Brozman really gets it on the track.
