I still have my old ABBA lp's, and still would rather listen to them, bings and all, then some of the 'new' music. The Visitors lp was so far ahead of it's time, that it got overlooked..Yet somehow I managed to keep the original.....great video to go with this song
This is a great song!!! This song will always mean alot to all of us who oppose war and promote peace! My Mother got me into ABBA when I was very young in the early 80's and this is one song that really was a huge favourite of hers and mine. As long as there is any war going on in the world, this song will be an anthem for peace and awareness.
Your military is a paradox, the best and the worst of humanity. The lyrics of this song are so profound. " Let's not look the other way, taking a chance...If the bugle starts to play...we too must dance...". Just beautiful.
Your lack of involvement makes you silent accomplices of crimes against humanity. As the US increasingly becomes ruled by the military ( it's not a fantasy) is just a matter of time before Uncle Sam comes knocking on your door.
@mostro135 i dont think this song is about war. abba are very cryptic and have you fooled, the song is about not repeating child abuse in future generations. the soliders are adult survivors of incest. really have a very very good listen and youll see it like i did
Periodically I come back to this great video to view it. It's really a great video and probably my favororite one. The song is very powerful and I think very relative for the short term (5 year) future. (Iran, US, Israel, etc etc etc,)
A point of interest, without judgement as to whether A-Bombs are good or bad, depending on whose brain or nation controls them. The picture of the atomic weapon on this video's thumbnail is the Bikini Island "Able" test of 1946. In the same year, a swimsuit was invented, so radical in its design for the morals of the time that it was seen as being "anatomically explosive" in a moral sense. So it was named after Bikini Island. Like it or not people, this is how the swimsuit got its name....
One of the reasons Germany did not invade Sweden in 1940 (as they did Norway and Denmark) was because the Swedes represented the perfect "Tall Blonde MasterRace" the nazi psychotic mind promoted, and the nazis were in control of the German Army then, arguably the most powerful army the world has ever seen for its time.
They did invade nearly every other nation in Europe, and it took 25 million Russian lives to defeat them, and 1.5 Million American, British, French too
I have always loved ABBA so much and this particular track and now having seen the visual image of ghastly nasty killer mushroom cloud rising to go with the track really makes my heart bleed. Being Japanese and having actually seen some of my school friends, even after a few generations, suffering from the effect of it is something I will never fortget. I will keep singing this song to myself. Thank you for posting it.
@kentishken Something the world is noticing is how the Japanese people and the Japanese Government have never taken responsibility for the aggression, attitudes, and actions of the Japanese Army between 1930 - 1945, particularly regarding huge massacres against the civilian populations of China, the Phillipines, Indonesia, and the recruitment of "comfort girls" (Sex Slaves) from Korea who were forced to have solo and group sex with Japanese soldiers and were often gang raped daily for years.
By the end of their career, ABBA's songs became quite serious and somewhat politically oriented. They were the protesters, even though their protests were still very subtle. I like your video.
i'm also a newcomer to utube.this song is fantastic.the lyrics are of a genius person and ABBA's outstanding songs can't be surpassed. i believe this group was sent here to overpower the devil in our world.
This is one of the very best Abba songs I know ( like Eagle, The Name Of The Game, Move On, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, One Of Us, Slipping Through My Fingers and When All Is Said And Done ).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Lets Not be taking the chance, distracted by looking away from GODs holy grace, because when the music starts to play, we must Not dance our approval for the satanic New Age of antichrist.
all sorts of people like, and have huge respect for abba.... (people who might not necessarily have any time whatsoever for this mamma mia craze bollocks thing.)
songs like this are the reason abba are respected so much amongst musically educated people.
The drummer of this song wasn't Ola Brunkert , but the youngest ABBA's band member,Per Lindvall. Mr 2Shaymcn appears that you haven't read the back of the LP "The Visitors", which is published in detail the production of the album.
Thanks J for the info, I should have checked !! he plays on this one and the title track. He also worked with B&B on the Gemini and Josefin Nilsson projects
Benny and Björn (especially Benny) maybe are the most important components, but it's the COMBINATION that makes ABBA one of the best music acts of last century. Benny's advanced harmonies and melodies. Björns lyrics. Agnetha and Frida's perfectly compatible singing arrangements. Sound Engineer Michael B Tretow's sound landscapes.
Their music sometimes reached celestial hights. Remove one ore more of the components, and it's "just" marvellous (like the musical/film "Mamma Mia").
As a lifelong Abba fan, I've always believed that Bjorn and Benny are two of the best songwriters in history. Thank you for posting this, one of my all-time favourite Abba tracks (I like them all, but my favourites are album tracks). Abba had so much more depth than they were given credit for, and they know just how to capture the right emotion in their lyrics and musical arrangements. You have complemented this perfectly with your video. Well done.
Indeed they are amongst the best songwriters in history and its not just you and i saying that. People like Elton john also believe this and thats some compliment from a great songwriter himself.
I'm new to Youtube, and have been on a marvelous journey this past year--- discovering all these great ABBA songs! I have great respect for Bjorn and Benny as song writers--and Agnetha and Frida's talents are the icing on the cake! Great job on this one--thanks for sharing!
After looking at over 2000 videos, I think this is the best one on YT, not only because of the music and the group, but also for the tema and content. All other please keep me excused.
Very underrated song. I don't think they have any bad songs. I have all their albums and they're all full of great tracks! Of course, some are better than others, but no bad ones.
Wow,2Shaymcn, you really captured the haunting sound and meaning of this song. I am checking all the ABBA vids, but yours is by far one of the best. Thank you! Abbafanfourever.
I never knew what this song really was about, I love it, the sad songs really worked for ABBA, I think that artistically, the final album was by far, the best, I wish they had done a few more, their sound was getting more mature, and they really could have had some real gems if they kept up in this style
I will never understand how this songs never got the recognition they deserve, they were great and catchy...love this song!!!!!I think this is the song that is going to be stuck in my head for a couple of days now hehe thanks Shay
