Not to insult this woman, but how do you pronounce her surname? Cuz the only two ways I've considered sound oddly like a certain part of the much loved female anatomy.
Scientists should stop freaking out about chimps so much and start studying human hunter-gatherer populations more. Gombe is a lost cause anyway - humans have manipulated the chimps environment there so much that studying them tells us next to nothing about them. Except how they react to alien situations and environments.
@13otany13ay I don't know why this comment is highest rated, in the wild, bullying is not a trait of chimps as @truvelocity and others comment. It's all about resources and survival of the fittest. If you notice, it was the females that wouldn't allow her into the group, the males don't have issues.
Animals who are surviving, will attack to defend for various reasons. But to be vindictive and get off on it, otherwise known as bullying, is not a part of the natural process. Its all to easy to project a human emotion onto their ways. But, its not what they are doing when they wound each other or kill another over territory.
@asperin Or they're imitating a system like unrestricted capitalism, that encourages the strong to prey on the weak...see I can project my political ideology on unrelated issues too
@asperin What you're advocating is not natural selection, unnecessarily narrowing diversity in your population is not a sound evolutionary strategy, in fact its a certain path to extinction
Free market Capitalism allows for any thing to arise and be regulated by consumers(everyone). Central planned economies narrow down diversity, they attempt to control what people should buy or sell.
@asperin You're delusional...."free market" capitalisms leads to concentrations of wealth and power, that force the rest of society to conform to the interests of the wealthy, and dispose of those that are not useful to them... this isn't even an arguable historical point, we know what happens when there is no regulation on capitalism, it was called the age of the robber barons...BTW theres a lot of middle ground between unregulated capitalism and central planning, not just the 2 extremes
But what middle ground do we choose? Lets have elections, ballots, let the biggest group(not necessarily the 51%+) decide for the rest of the participants!
Concentrations of wealth and power are a result of not being able to let the consumer regulate commerce with the way he spends his money. Corporations team up with the State and you have Corporatism, what you call "Capitalism".
Statism leads to Corporatism because it allows groups of men to use political power to profit over their competitors.
Commerce is emergent within human civilization and Capitalism occurs voluntarily.
The short-cut is to separate State and Commerce and allow Supply and Demand to take place completely instead of having thousands of regulations which history has shown that they are purchasable.
@13otany13ay Notice how modern kids aren't exactly living in the "natural environment" they were evolved for. Do the children of hunter-gatherer tribes act in the same way? Don't automatically assume that all negative behaviors are a result of an "evil" human nature.
@blackiron60 thats a very good point our envoiroment is very important in shaping our behaviour, part of it is human nature ofcourse but we are all products of our envoiroment for example people in prison dont act the same way as people on the inside, considering that most people dont feel the same way about bullying as they would about a fight (with willing combatants) shows that it probably isnt an inate part of human nature in my opinion however
probability is likely!

@TheSpock1830 Well, according to Darwinism you were an ape.
jshjamaar 1 year ago
@jshjamaar That is a mis-interpretation of the theory.
You could say 'like an ape' and be on fairly safe ground.
We share ancestry with apes.
We are one of the more evolved ancestors of creatures who were also the ancestors of apes and monkeys.
In the final analysis we are also related to fishes of all types.

Behind every bully you'll find an asshole for a parent.
Boys bully strangers, girls bully their friends.

A social behaviour humans share with chimps? Bullying. I am sure Anne PUSEY knows what I am talking about. Kids are cruel.

Kids are not cruel, they imitate too good. They emulate adults who believe in Government, the legitimized coercive monopoly.
