@10411069 - I built my own from scratch out of 1/2" square hardware cloth wire, based roughly off of similar home-made traps I'd seen several old-timers using. That general design is called a "clover leaf" trap. Academy Sports used to carry a similar trap, but haven't seen one in several years. They still carry a variety of smaller bait traps. I get so many requests for trap plans, I guess I need to develop a DVD called "Building Your Own Bait Trap" to sell. lol
can u please make a video of how to make one of these traps im 16 been fishin for big flatheads for acouple years nd i wanna make about 4 so i will plenty of bait for me and my friends
I was looking for a row boat as im a little overweight and need exercise but this radisson canoe deal came up as my dad was a caretaker and the man moved to CA so I asked Dad how much does he want $300 I got canoe , pfds, oars, minkotta trolling motor with battery and charger a computer executive chair and a bbq grill! We love the canoe even my wife who has a fear of water has been out a few times. I saw your seat and said I think I can do that! Thanks
@adkbeau Raising the seat up a few inches will give you more roll (left and right) than you might think. Canoes in general have a lot of roll. You can probably find a seat swivel that doesn't raise your seat any, if you think that might be a problem. I found all the parts I needed in Walmart's fishing section.
thanks for reply I have a Radisson that we just bought that has same features and I can row it like a rowboat and it came with a minnekota motor but havent used that yet because some people say with motor I have to register it and some say if its electric then I dont I have to call dmv but for this year were paddling it... but my seats are foam stadium seats I was going to build something like you had! Thanks S Beau
@adkbeau The original plastic seat cracked all the way through. I replaced that with a piece of 3/4" plywood. I had the fiberglass seat from a john boat. I mounted a standard pedestal base to the plywood and a 4" pedestal to the bottom of the chair. The chair lifts on and off, swivels 360 degrees, and the pedestal is spring loaded. The extra height makes a world of difference when sitting for several hours at a time! For rough water I'd sit on the plywood to keep center of gravity low.
@adkbeau I don't see many Coleman Scanoes for sale in stores. I think they got a bit pricey and a lot of your big chains started carrying other products. A lot of what I see like at Sports Academy or Sports Authority are a foot or two shorter, and a tad narrower and shallower. They simply don't have the payload or stability of the Scanoe. Also, I can't get a straight answer in my state if a canoe with a trolling motor needs to be registered. Even wildlife officers give me diff answers!
@adkbeau It's a Coleman "Scanoe." Built much like a regular canoe, but much wider across the middle and flatter on the bottom. This combination gives you the stability of a john-boat, yet it paddles like a canoe. It has a squared-off stern and is rated for up to a 5-hp motor. I use a 50-lb thrust trolling motor. It's incredibly streamlined! My GPS says I'm doing 4-5 mph on a fresh battery. And yes, I added the swivel seat, but can lift it off and sit normal on the plywood underneath too..
@KhmerSerey1 Legally in AR is has to be in the boat, which it was. Also, the water in that entire bay is only 3-4 ft deep. So, if I jumped out I could stand on the bottom and the water would only come up to my elbows. Besides, if you notice my physique, I have a good bit of build-in flotation. lol I wear my life jacket when I head out on the lake - point well taken!
The collapse a trap is total shit. dont waste 3 minuets of your life looking at this , i did
its a kiddies net without the stick. its on a string. you put it below the surface and throw bread on the water. asit sinks the fish follow it into the net. But we all know minnows etc are a lot more clever than that and the will stay well clear of this awfull thing
Shallow coves, near docks, piers, mouth of creeks where they run into lakes. You can find small bream and other minnows pretty much anywhere around the edge of a lake. Just don't put it to deep. I usually place mine in water between 2-5 ft deep. A shallow, flat cove that tapers back to a small creek of some sort is my favorite. Also among lily pads or near a stand of cattails works well. Next to anything that provides underwater structure is a plus.
I Found a Pong near my House that is LOADED with Shiners, I just Made a Trap and Plan On Testing it out tomorrow. Your Trap Looks Like it works Great!
The bait trap was out for most of a day. I baited it with a mixture of dry dog food and moist tuna cat food, right out of the can, immediately before placing the trap in the water. Hot as the water is right now, small fish will die if left too long in the trap, especially in shallow water with a lot of direct afternoon sun. In hot summer, I prefer spots that are shaded during the heat of the day.
Were do you buy this trap or were do you get the plans to build this trap?
