what type of balance connector does the AC680 have? Is it the align style, or the Thunder Power style, or the PolyQuest/PolyRC style? Please let me know because I need to know what type of balance connector I should have when I purchase my LiPo batteries.
My AC-6 came in the mail today. I was suprised to see the optional tempurature sensor with it. I see in your picture at the end of the video is a cd for your computer, my charger did not come with that. Do you ever hook your charger to your computer to analyze the battery?
@willmotox1 I can't find a fuckin battery that this thing will charge as far as 11.1 volt lipo. It didn't have Ec3 for my losi pack so Im gonna have to send it back.... Does a venom work??? What do you guys recommend for a 11.1 volt lipo that will charge without getting extra connectors.
I'm a first time charger ☺ Being afraid of what I heard could happen to LiPo's I kept on reading the manual untill I thought: There must be an easier way and went to U tube. Being a subsciber to you I klicked and what the.... We have bought the same charger! Here in the Netherlands it's a bit more expensive because it has to be imported but still very affordable and going under the name MAXXTRAX 680 AC+ (will try and put up a pictr.)
Hello.., hi..,I have a new Thunder AC6, and when charging one of my Lipo batt.. 3 cell 2200 11.1, I have the screen says BREAK DOWN..,however there is nothing wrong with the battery or the charger..,why is that?. I will appreciate your reply. Thanks.
I have purchased one and it came without a power connector... very disapointing, other than that, after making a power connector for it, it seems to work well
I always love your videos, the insightful information you provide, and your honest and thorough analysis of products. I will be buying one of these soon and I hope you get free stuff from the vendors for the time you spend.
@otaner142 Most likely you will want to charge at 3.3 amps like you said. I belive this would be called 1c. Some batteries allow you to charge at more than 1c though, so for instance if your battery can be charged at 2c, that would be 6.6 amps, but of course you would need a different charger to to that since this one only does 5 amps max. If you have a 1cell battery, i believe you would just do lipo charge cuz there is no balancing on 1 cell.
I read through the manual, twice, watched this video (which is excellent, btw), set everything up for my batteries, then got my 'brand new' batteries out and hooked the first one, a 2200mAh, to the charger. All I got was a CONNECTION BREAK error. Checked the adapter & cables for continuity, all good. Tried the second battery, a 2650mAh, and got the same error.
Did I miss something, or is it a bad charger? Thoughts?
I do not understand this, i want to charge 11.1 v LIPO, 1800mah, when you go through set up and you start it in lipo balance after it is done is it ready to use or i have to do it one more time and this time start it in lipo charge mode.
I did 3 times start it as a video shows and many other videos in balance mode and after is done i tried on my helicopter it worked for 3-4 minutes and couldn't fly any more. I have the other charger which came with my plane, it balances and charges in same time
I am disapointed with this charger. I run nitro as well as elecs. and I was thrilled to see that this charger included a glow ignitor plug. well guess what ? It was not in the box ! I bought 4 new venom 7 cell 4200 mah batts. when set to the correct charge rate the charger over heats them in five minutes ! Then if I lower the charge amps and go for a two hour charge it does the same thing. can anyone help?
Did you know there's a newer version of the AC6? It's the AC680. It has more power and higher discharge rate. Here's the specs... Operating voltage: DC 11~18 volts AC in: 100v-240v 50/60Hz Charge/discharge power: Max. 80/10 Watts NiCd/MH: 1~15 cells LiIo/LiPo/LiFe: 1~6 series Pb: 2~20V Charge current: 0.1 to 6.0A Discharge current: 0.1 to 2.0A No. Of cycle: 1 to 5 times Battery data memory: Up to 5 data
I've been looking at getting this AC6 Charger for LiPos, Ni-mh & Ni-cad. Would you recommend I get it? Will it hook up to Turnigy LiPos? I'll wait to hear from you before I buy it. Thanks! Rick
Thanks for the video. Quick question - When I plug in the cell balance wire and the charge leads, I'm not able to put the lipo safe bag over it cause the cell balance wire is too short... any suggestions? Thanks
@XfireBf2Skatetopia it sure can...I charge my transmitter 8 cell 9.6v Ni-MH with no problem. though if you're getting errors you could have a damaged cell.
Great charger....I've had mine for close to a year and no problems. I just started parallel charging and noticing that the charger starts getting hot (about 104F) at 20 - 30 min. in to the charge. @R0beert0 Hi: I did just that 6 months ago when I noticed that when I charged my 6 cell batterys it would get pretty hot. It's simple, just buy or find a computer case fan and hook it up to a simple 6 to 12volt wall charger. There's plenty of those around the house. I simply stand it up beside my charger and plug it in when I charge the 6 cell batterys and it stays very cool. I'm sure it will extend the life of the charger too. Do it, it works great.
@Leogetitright55 Thanks for the tip, it works great! I found myself doing that for a while though what I did end up doing was...I found a small graphics card fan (about 30mm) and tapped in to the DC 12v supply going in to the charging board, I then mounted the fan on the side of the charger. So now the fan kicks in as soon as I power up the charger, it's mobile and best of all....no more heating issues!!!

@outbackjack1974 I bought one of these chargers from Hong Kong through Ebay about two years ago & paid that price. I sold that one but now want to get another but I see how much these are selling for anywhere between $100 - $199 now. I just placed an order from hobbypartz, nice to be able to get one for the same price I paid two years ago. Thanks, I actually had them saved in my favorites (don't even remember saving them as a favorite) but for some reason never used them until now.
Ok. This charger is kick butt. I have had a chance to use it now and I have to say it is pretty damn good for the price. Mine came with a USB cable and PC software to graph voltage, current and temperature. I am running Vista and the software and drivers loaded successfully.
I just got mine from Hobbypartz and it does NOT have the Deans connectors. It has bannana plug and one connector has the Chinese red plastic bananna connectors that come on the Turnigy batteries. They are junk connectors. I will be cutting them off and replacing with Deans connectors. So, in the end, $42 ends up being about $50 by the time you put the Deans connectors on.
Perfect timing, Dave! I was shopping for a good and inexpensive charger. I found this one on HobbyPartz' website. I was also considering the G.T. A-6 charger from Hobby King. Looks like you just made my mind up for me. Great, instructional video, as usual. Semper Fi
Just got this charger, AWESOME. I love it already compared to the junk I have had in past. This thing rocks I have been charging batteries all night, just to use it. Stone simple to use, but still read the directions.
where did you purchase your complete set of AC-6? How long ago was it and what are all the accessories that came with it? Looking at some sites that sell this model, seems like the wire harnesses are sold separately. thanks.
I read a review in Amazon for this charger and it reads, " I've been able to charge a 3S 1300Mah Lipo for a park flyer, but not the 6S. I've searched dozens of forums and nobody else has reported successfully charging a 6S 5000Mah, so it would seem this thing just can't push out that much power. " Is this the case?
This is a really great video. and you do a great job of explaining the workings of this charger. I was completely interested until you mention the five amp charging. I found your video doing a google search for a 30 amp lipo charger. and that's what I'm looking for. a fast lipo charger. My Thunder power lipo's are rated for 6c charging which is just over 30 amps with no loss in battery life. But I do thank you for this vido. I'm going with the CellPro PowerLab 8. 30amp Charger.I need a 100amp:-)
Hi, Dave looks like you have a good bit of experience with chargers. I was going to buy the triton EQ or the Dynamite Passport ultra. I see a lot of positive comments about this charger. I'm starting to consider it, I am a little worried though , because sometimes you actually get what you pay for :-) Are these things legit? A one month warranty is a little worrisome . Can you really get a charger with so many features for half the price of similar featured ones that are 2x the price?
thanks so much for making this video. Lilke you i was looking for a charger because i am also getting into electric and i might not have found it if not for you. But one question when i charge my parkzone 1800 mah 3 cell lipo and it checks the cells i can put it as 4 cells on the charger but it reads it as a 3 cell but it still starts charging?
its fast400, i think you helped me out with some blade400 parts on helifreak?
so im watching this video and have a question?
i have a thunder t6 the smaller version of this charger, anyway, i am getting a connection break meassege when i connect the balance board. i found a loose screw in the charger, i think it shorted something.
CAN YOU REPAIR THESE CHARGERS? if so i need mine fixed.
hey boomer, if you have a 2700mah 6 volt battery never charge it at a different voltage than specified
as far as the mah being at 2700 you need to charge is at 2.7 amp for a full strong efficient charge. You may charge it at a slightly higher amperage but dont go overboard, this slightly higher amperage will allow for a slightly quicker charge but slightly less efficient battery pack , there is a patteren when charging
i like your videos man,i have the same chrager and i would like to know how to charge NiMH and NiCd Batteries ,for example 2700mah 6V ,how much amps should i but?
i got this charger, and its been saying "HOTACHARGER" and im not doing anything different than when i first bought, which waslike 1 month ago, i charge 3 to 4 batterys 2 and 3 cell at a setting, not all at once, but sometimes if i touch the charger the static from hand makes the screen go crazy, like Japanese writing or something then says HOTCHARGER has this happened to anybody else,I UNPLUG IT, PLUG IT BACK IN AND IT WORKS,HELP,HELP,HELP NIGHTFLYER
Why did you not show everyone that you can view all the cells individual charge levels while it is charging? This may not have been technically relevant but I found it very interesting.
How do I discharge a 3s 11.1v 6400mah Li-Power by venom with this charger? The min discharge volts per pack is 9v and that is all it says on the battery about discharging.
Normally you should not discharge Lipo's because it is not good for them (like it is for NiMH batteries). You minimum cell voltage should be no less than 3.7v per cell. If you dip below that, you decrease the packs life.
I'm impressed! I have two digital charger, a LaCrosse B700 and a LaCrosse B900. They are working fine (although they won't charge a battery if it's at less than 0.5 V, will report a null... which made me throw a few batteries in the garbage before I realize that those batteries were not really dead). I have some D batteries, 10000 mAh... Would I have to charge them individually or if it can done for the 4 D batt. at the same time? The AC6 measure the accumulated charge?
What kind of cells is it? If you're careful you can hook up your battery pack to a basic NiMh wall plug charger for just a couple minutes. This will "wake up" the cells enough to let the charger proceed in the proper charge mode. Do this at your own risk.
this costs abour 62,99€ in germany. 55 bucks would be around 38€. but we have to pay 62,99€ (93us-dollar) which means that we pay almost twice what you pay in the us. this sucks! same goes for guns and toys.
i have one quick question. I know that many different battery companies have different balancing connectors on their lipo batteries. for example thunder power batteris have differently shaped balance connectors than eflite or tenergy batteries. do they have different charge boards available with different connectors on them to fit other types of batteries? Thanks
Has anyone else had an odd message show up when it goes into a low voltage input trouble before or is it just my charger? I was charging a battery off of a dead car battery and came back to be amazed by the writing on my chargers screen.
Hook it up to a variable power supply around 10V and see what comes up on the display. I'm just curious to see if it is just my charger, because it may have just been some idiot in the factory programmed it trying to be funny. Otherwise I love this charger. It works absolutely awesomely on every battery type I have tried it on. Also looking at it, it looks the same as Trinity's charger, but 150 bucks cheaper.
Have you or anyone that owns this charger checked how accurately it balance charges lipos?
This charger looks also similar to the iMAX B6AC Dual Power, hoverver the iMAX have known problems with lipo balancing and if checked with a multimeter after a charge there could be 0.15 volt difference between cells.
I always get the "connection break" error when attempting to charge by firebire phantom NIMH battery. I'm using the clips and attaching directly to the battery (since there is not connection that will fit the firebird phantom connector). Has anyone else been able to charge NIMH batteries?
I charge them all the time with this charger. You need to squeeze the clips to make them a bit thinner to fit in the hole. You cannot balance them, only charge or discharge.
If I left a Li-Po battery to charge for a long time, will it explode? I want to get informed before I buy a Li-Po battery. I heard it's dangerous sometimes.
I do not understand this, i want to charge 11.1 v LIPO, 1800mah, when you go through set up and you start it in lipo balance after it is done is it ready to use or i have to do it one more time and this time start it in lipo charge mode.
I did3times start it as a video shows and many other videos in balance mode and after is done i tried on my heli it worked for4min and couldn't fly any more. I have the other charger which came with my plane, it balances and charges in same time
i ordered one and it came with a thermal probe. the features of this charger is comparable to features of chargers that cost $130.00 USD or more. it was the only way i could justify getting into lipo receiver batts. you can't go wrong with it.
Dave I picked up this charger the other day and when I try to balance my Lipos I also get CONNECTION BREAK message on the screen. I checked the balance board pin to pin continutity all looks good. Any ideas?
I did like ur review and went to shop and bought one! However when i plug a battery it says on the screen CONNECTION BREAK! When i use banana plug it works but this way i cant balance battery cells. Any ideas what that can be?
You state your trying to balance indicating charging a LiPo type battery therefore using the balancing cables and sockets. They are smaller wires so I suggest finding a meeter and checking each wire for an open. If all else fails take it back to the shop for support or exchange. The chargers are mass produced and some may have issues. However a very good charger design!
hi dave my e flite 1800 mah lipo when fully charged with the balancing charger that comes with blade 400, only charges up to 12.4 volts. should it be at fully charged 12.6? could it be my lipo's dying or that the chargers just not that great?
oops... watched the video... it is in fact DC capable. i should've known, as most are DC, but not AC. this one does both and comes with all the connectors. guess i'm just excited cos' i was able to order one... can't wait to get it. i hope it's not too good to be true. i say that b/c it's less than half the cost of lipo chargers with the same features ;o)
The adds for this charger say it can monitor on the PC the temp of the battery while it is being charged.
However, it appears you have to choose to set the port on the charger for either the temp sensing "OR" the USB connection to the computer.
That means one would not be able to do both at the same time.
In other words, you can not hook up the PC and monitor the temp at the same time.
Am I missing something ?

Hi, do you discharge your NIMH batteries first? How do you do this with the AC. I just bought one and it's not obvious from the selections. Thanks!

But one question when i charge my parkzone 1800 mah 3 cell lipo and it checks the cells i can put it as 4 cells on the charger but it reads it as a 3 cell but it still starts charging?

airsoftfreek69 1 year ago
hey boomer, if you have a 2700mah 6 volt battery never charge it at a different voltage than specified
as far as the mah being at 2700 you need to charge is at 2.7 amp for a full strong efficient charge. You may charge it at a slightly higher amperage but dont go overboard, this slightly higher amperage will allow for a slightly quicker charge but slightly less efficient battery pack , there is a patteren when charging

Dave, thanks for the review it was great.
I have one question on it though.
Why did you not show everyone that you can view all the cells individual charge levels while it is charging? This may not have been technically relevant but I found it very interesting.
justwanttoplaymygame 2 years ago
How do I discharge a 3s 11.1v 6400mah Li-Power by venom with this charger? The min discharge volts per pack is 9v and that is all it says on the battery about discharging.
stampedevxl09 2 years ago

I keep getting a "low voltage" warning with one of my batteries. It wont let me do anything with ath pack, what do i do?
Johnnym73 2 years ago
What kind of cells is it? If you're careful you can hook up your battery pack to a basic NiMh wall plug charger for just a couple minutes. This will "wake up" the cells enough to let the charger proceed in the proper charge mode. Do this at your own risk.
pb2themax 2 years ago
this costs abour 62,99€ in germany.

Thanks

lipo balance mean it charges all cells simultaneously?
nguyentuan1990 2 years ago
lipo balance on this charger means it balances as it charges at the same time.
newbflyer101 2 years ago
I believe not necessarily simultaneously, but equally. I think it allows maximum battery capacity by charging each cell separately...
StuffGoesBoom 2 years ago
Wow 55$ and it does all that? Is it still working good no problems?

No problem.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
thats suprising id think it would break right away for that price.

Has anyone else had an odd message show up when it goes into a low voltage input trouble before or is it just my charger? I was charging a battery off of a dead car battery and came back to be amazed by the writing on my chargers screen.
manicdamnitman 2 years ago
I only use mine plugged into the wall outlet, so have not seen any problems with it.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Hook it up to a variable power supply around 10V and see what comes up on the display. I'm just curious to see if it is just my charger, because it may have just been some idiot in the factory programmed it trying to be funny. Otherwise I love this charger. It works absolutely awesomely on every battery type I have tried it on. Also looking at it, it looks the same as Trinity's charger, but 150 bucks cheaper.
manicdamnitman 2 years ago
Great review. I think I can justify this one. Looks like a well rounded charger.
bustedprop 2 years ago
Hey Dave, Great review.
Medevac191 2 years ago
very similar to a Venom Pro at about 1/2 the price

I always get the "connection break" error when attempting to charge by firebire phantom NIMH battery. I'm using the clips and attaching directly to the battery (since there is not connection that will fit the firebird phantom connector). Has anyone else been able to charge NIMH batteries?
RLH1510 2 years ago
I charge them all the time with this charger. You need to squeeze the clips to make them a bit thinner to fit in the hole. You cannot balance them, only charge or discharge.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
mine does the connection break thing also, just got it yesterday. Will check the connections.

If I left a Li-Po battery to charge for a long time, will it explode? I want to get informed before I buy a Li-Po battery. I heard it's dangerous sometimes.
undertake782 2 years ago
Use a proper charger. The new batteries all have new circuits and explosions are rare, as the charger shuts off before hand.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
@NightFlyyer

Any ideas?
grandepolotas 2 years ago
Both wires have to be plugged in when doing balancing.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
I did like ur review and went to shop and bought one! However when i plug a battery it says on the screen CONNECTION BREAK! When i use banana plug it works but this way i cant balance battery cells. Any ideas what that can be?
OGRMaster 2 years ago
You state your trying to balance indicating charging a LiPo type battery therefore using the balancing cables and sockets. They are smaller wires so I suggest finding a meeter and checking each wire for an open. If all else fails take it back to the shop for support or exchange. The chargers are mass produced and some may have issues. However a very good charger design!
DelSolSea 2 years ago
Both wires must be plugged in to balance charge.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
hi dave my e flite 1800 mah lipo when fully charged with the balancing charger that comes with blade 400, only charges up to 12.4 volts. should it be at fully charged 12.6? could it be my lipo's dying or that the chargers just not that great?
azzahighkite1 2 years ago
Anything over 11.9, usually charged. Get a cell pro like in my review and check each cell.
NightFlyyer 2 years ago
Yes, it can charge up to 5 amps no sweat.

emailkenny 2 years ago
oops... watched the video... it is in fact DC capable. i should've known, as most are DC, but not AC. this one does both and comes with all the connectors. guess i'm just excited cos' i was able to order one... can't wait to get it. i hope it's not too good to be true. i say that b/c it's less than half the cost of lipo chargers with the same features ;o)
