Great video, but two important things have changed since it was made. First, the "position and hold" phraseology has been replaced with "line up and wait." Second, it is no longer true, as mentioned at 14:00, that clearance to taxi to a runway implicitly clears you to cross runways on the way. You must be explicitly cleared to cross. If in doubt, stop at the runway intersection and confirm clearance to cross.
My question is: What do you do when ATC people aren't speaking as clearly and as slowly as they are doing in the video? I find it ironic that whoever made this video felt compelled to include text so that we would be sure to understand what is being transmitted as we watch in the calm and comfort of sitting by a computer while in the real world of a busy, noisy cockpit, you're sometimes lucky if you can recognize your own tail number being called through what sounds like rapid-fire jibberish.
Good thing you tools aren't flying professionally. Sterile cockpit in a 172???? What has this world come to?? You mean all of you tools think you are professionals??? Fly the damn airplane, leave all the CRM to us, the pros. Have fun, gents, and remember, the AIM is only a guideline, not a REG.... Settle down, its not as hard as it looks, PAL!!!!
@IslandPiot sterile cockpit makes a lot of sense for pilots of small planes. many are less experienced so any little distraction could cause them to make a mistake
Small detail: Instructions does not comply with real ICAO (from 11:00). When responding to a ATC instruction, you END your answer with you callsign. And when contacting ATC you BEGIN with your callsign. Just a detail, nice movie!!

what airplane 10:10 ?
drummerboy5192 1 year ago
@drummerboy5192 I think it's a C185 Skywagon
mormon97 1 year ago
@mormon97 I think it's just a 172. If it was the C185 it would have a prop control as well, not just the throttle and mixture seen @ 6:12
Scote1992 11 months ago
@Scote1992 Ya you're probably right, I didn't realize that they made the 172 in a taildragger.

@Scote1992 nvm i didn't see that you were replying to someone else. I thought you were talking about the plane the woman was in

I've never seen a VariEze with pods like that at the junction between the wing fillet and the outer part of the wing. Anyone know what that's about?
