I can claim to be James Bond but it doesn't mean I am. Al-Qa'ida can claim all they want to be fighting in the way of Allah BUT they are not. They are a terrorist organisation which has nothing to do with the true teachings of Islam.

Secondly, the category number 7 (ie. In the way of Allah) does not count these terrorists. Al-Qa'ida are NOT fighting in the way of Allah. Just because they claim to be, does not mean they are. Absolutely NO Muslim country and government endorces al-Qa'ida so they are not entitled to zakat.

Firstly zakat is not a tax. Taxes are based on income, where as zakat is based on savings. If a person has an income of $30,000 a year but only manages to save $5,000, they only pay zakat on the $5,000 and even then it's 2.5% of $5,000. If they can't save anything in a one year period then no zakat is due.

The seventh category is THOSE FIGHTING FOR ALLAH, meaning people ENGAGED IN ISLAMIC MILITARY OPERATIONS for who no salary has been allotted in the Army roster. They are given enough to suffice for the operation, even if affluent; of WEAPONS, MOUNTS, CLOTHING AND EXPENSES.

Islam prescribes a system of Zakat. Islamic law prescribes that every person who has a saving that exceeds the nisab level i.e. more than 85 grams of gold, should give 2.5% of that saving every lunar year in charity. If every rich person in the world gave Zakat sincerely, poverty will be eradicated from this world. Not a single human being would die of hunger.

We are not against givin charity to non muslims organisations. But about not giving zakat to non muslims is balanced on both sides and i am no scholar to tell u which is right or wrong. even if you give Obama the benefit of the doubt on his zakat part of the speech, there's no getting around the fact that he lifted not a sentence, but a phrase sandwiched in the midst of a sentence, out of a Quran passage justifying genocide of Jews & taking their land (5:32-33) -- because it was in the midst of a sentence, he had to have known the context -- and when lifted out it sounds so nice, but to those who know the context, it means wink, wink, it's right to kill Jews & take their land.
