After watching only a quarter of the video, it seems clear that John Dickerson doesn't give a damn about what Chris Isham has to say (3:08), but he is engaged with Hitchens (1:51, 2:05, 3:43, 4:01,4:25). I will continue to watch it, but I appreciate the fact that Hitchens is respected by his "interviewer", because all too often it isn't the case.

After all, there are many worthy champions of Human Rights who unfortunately get overlooked by the Nobel Committee because their work does not fit the criteria for the Peace Prize. Unfortunately, I doubt that the Swedish Committee has that prerogative, or would even do anything if they did have it.

Seems many Americans forget they financed and assisted Saddam and his regime in gaining complete power in iraq, for that reason alone they were responsible for getting rid of him when he went bad, it's called responsibility.
That aside why would you possibly defend an evil dictator who caused his people terror and suffering? He lost his rights the moment he murdered everyone in opposition to his party solely for power.

Yes, and America also financed and assisted the Soviet Union during WW2. Many Americans forget that we also supported the Shah Mohammed Reza, who had implemented broad economic and social changes, even allowing women the right to vote. Until Jimmy Carter pulled US support and plunged the Middle-East into the chaos it is today. We financed Saddam to overcome Islamic fundamentalism of Iran after the ayatollah took over. Who would you have won WW2, Germany or the Allies?

The US only got directly involved in WW2 after the bombing of Peal Harbour. Most Americans saw WW2 as a European conflict and wanted no part of it. The US was initially founded as an isolationist country. The founders wanted no direct involvement in international conflicts and thought that each country had to arrive at their own solutions to their own problems.

Not true. Thomas Jefferson sent marines to the Barbary States, to fight Islamic slave drivers in Tripoli. Look up "the Barbary Wars". If I'm not mistaken, Jefferson was one of the founding fathers.

When free trade is stopped by international piracy one of your two principles has to give, either isolationism or free trade. By stopping the attacks they sacrificed isolationism temporarily to maintain free trade indefinitely.

The point was that Jefferson believed the American Revolution was meant for export. The fact that these pirates were justifying their actions by way of the Koran was enough for Jefferson to come to this conclusion. While he didn't do it the way it's been done since, to call him an isolationist is just wrong.

My point was to be objective. I'm not either supporting the act or condemning it outright. You have to look at it in its historical context and not issue condemnations based on personal taste.

But you are not looking at its historical context. There is no evidence to suggest that Iran would invade.
Iran didn't have the ability to invade since their military was crippled.
Hussein however had made statements regarding an invasion of Iran up to 6 months prior to the event.
He has also made numerous statements regarding creating one Arab State.

If Obama was a real man he would turn down the award. You have to be a complete moron not to see that one, the award has no value. Two, it is politically driven to wedge Obama and his upcoming decision in Afghanistan.
Obama's only way out is declining the award. It shows the Nobel committee that they are retards and their prize means nothing and would make Obama look like a real noble man. But we all know he'll accept because his ego is just to damn ginormous.

Hitchens is a former socialist. I think he might be social democratic now but he is clearly perhaps the only intellectual on the left that supported the invasion of iraq. Perhaps you wanted to surrender those defenseless Iraqis to the people who made them afraid of going to the market, voting in elections, heading to mosque to worship, living a normal life. Isn't the party in Iraq he's supporting the Iraqi Communist Party or something like that?.. I remember him saying something like that in a few interveiws. So it seems he's still a socialist just a pro-war socialist which obviously is a little difficult for some to understand in a society that likes to pigeonhole people.

Obvious what's going on in Pakistan. America is seeing some success in their plans to destabalize the region. Thus giving them an excuse to get in on that piece of the pie. The US has been trying to crush the Pakistani army for some time.
As for Obama and his Peace Prize. Of course he shouldn't accept it. He's the leader of the worlds most infamous war machine. He's done nothing for peace. Couldn't even get Guantanimo closed!
