No, they can't. They plan to open in both the US and EU. They plan to have multiple servers at start. They plan to run a full distribution of the game...not a few thousand a day. They don't do calculations client side, so no hacking from day one. And they actually anticipate more the 150K people will play and are accommodating to this.
So you are very correct, it's damn near impossible for anyone who puts time and effort into their MMO to come even close to what Aventurine did to their fans.
