But "The Streets of Laredo" wasn't the first (or last) use of the tune, I believe the earliest might have been "The Bard of Armagh" (an Irish song) which starts:
Oh, list to the tale of a poor Irish harper
And scorn not the strings in his old withered hand And since then; "The Homing Waltz" (and others) These are just a few of the songs that used this tune which is now in the public domain (not copyrighted)
Kevin died peacefully on Saturday March 13th. 2010 at six o'clock in the evening, surrounded by his family at his home in Manchester.
Kevin's career spanned over six decades, as a trombone player with bands like Joe Loss and Eric Winstone, as a guitar player with the Karl Denver Trio and finally as a member of The Bachelors for the last 15 years.
I am very sorry to hear that sad news, will you pass on my condolences to Clare,. Could you please clarify the date the 19th March 2010 isn't until tomorrow.
Still amazing live in Leicester around 1984 as was brilliant lead guitarist Kevin Neil who seems to receieve so liittle credit on You Tube and Gerry Cottrell's replacement, bass player Keith completed a top trio. There' been nothin like them since they split. performance
Karl in his best country & western mode, but now this track is proving popular how about adding Karl's classic, Weary Blues from Karl's Ace of Clubs album Karl Denver. this cut demonstrates why he was the best, the only British country and western singer, just a few years earlier this would have been a Country smash hit!
Thanks for making another Karl Denver Trio country classic available on Tube, a regular part of their stage show. I thjink this recording may be from the great At THe Yew Tree album? Michael, North Norfolk coast

Karl Denver had a great voice but sadly coincided with the 60s and the Beatles etc..
His Wimoweh is an all time musical classic. Sounds better the more you hear it.
Thanks for posting.

Karl Denver is so very AWESOME for his time & even up-to date IMHO :-)
My Dad & I loved him! :-)
Dad has 4-5 vinyl records of his & a couple on cassette.
As I'm his youngest of 3, I listened 2 Karl Denver w/ Dad a lot! :-)
My 2 older bros weren't into music like this :-( but it brought me closer to Dad, me being his Baby Boy, et al ;-)
We also loved many others. We're Irish & Dad & I loved Charlie Pride, Classical Guitar, Tony Orlando & Dawn, etc.
Thanks So Much fr: Dad & I :-)

What an amazing range Karl had, just listen to those low,low notes and then his hallmark soaring high voice. A genius.

Thanks for your interest.
It's been nice to see how Karl is still fondly remembered, just a pity there isn't much video of him around.
