What are the levels in Iaido? Is it unranked until you reach a certain degree of control, then you can take your first dan?
Also, I know you begin with a wooden sword, when are you eligible to practice with the real thing? I think the Katana a beautiful work of art. Beautiful yet deadly in the right hands
Sir, please, where did you get your katana? I have seen only a few like it, It seems very light and the blade seems thin. I am very interested if you have any information of it.
How can they award "high rank" 3 time for such plain performence. It is a okay demonstration, but no where near the amazing stuff masters do. There is pleny of that on youtube alone. I am not saying that you suck or anything like that, i was just expecting jaw dropping awesomness for 3rd dan.
Question how does one receive ranking in systems like this. In koryu and traditonal times there was usually three rankings beginner, intermediat, and master or higher level.
Hi thanks for the comment. No I didn't train in iai until moving to Japan. I'd trained karate and a little kobudo for about 8 years before coming here, so was excited with the chance to train in Japan and just ended up being taken to an iaido dojo by chance. I still train other stuff as my schedule permits but iaido is the one I've stayed consistent with. Thanks again for watching.
Hi just a late night (and late reply) thanks for the view and comment out to you Andy. I keep hoping to get more iai clips posted but alas my two little sons take precedence over youtube time... Oh well at least still getting in regular iai practices ;-0 thanks again take care
yeah if there's one thing I got in spades it's plenty of room for improvement... least I'll never run out of things to work on! ;-0 thanks for the view & comment
Hi you're welcome and thanks for the comment right back atchya I never really noticed that tourei at the end there it does look almost choreographed tho don't it, but nope not planned. Not sure when I'll get another iai video posted I finally got another working miniDV camcorder not long ago so have been going through old tapes capturing clips, I may get one up of my sensei sometime in the future...
Congratiulations with your 3th Dan. More nice footage from MJER Iai from it's homeland Japan is always welcome ;-) Keep up the good work you're doing (I've bin visiting your website). Regards
Thank you. It's refreshing to read your comments. I think they reflect the true brotherhood of budoka all over the world who support and encourage each other in our efforts of bettering ourselves via the martial arts. Especially as opposed to the the harsh nitpicking critics who seem to miss the gift of YouTube as a way of fostering this kind of unity.
コッメントをゼンブ読んでしまいました。ちょっと違っていました。You were a san dan in 2000! So are you still studying? Are you still in Japan? I do hope you have continued your Iaido studies.
How long have you been studying? How did you place in the taikai?
Souke sama was at our taikai here in Aichi too at the end of March. うれしかった、ね。
To become san dan in Muso Jikiden you must have been studying for at least three years でしょう、でもね、I can find some inconsistencies in your kata and I'm substantially less experienced than you.
Who are your sensei? How often do you study? There are points I'd like to discuss with you. I offer peace and creative criticism. I'm not a hater.
thanks for the lack of hate :o) Shinsa not taikai. Yeah still training in Japan-land, go to my homepage (link's on my youtube profile) and click "budo", answers to most/all your other questions should be there.

Hi caseysan. Thanks for sharing this video. I willlook for more from you.
I especially liked the final bowing segment, as each bowed in domino effect. it was most likely not planned that way but it was entertaining to see.

I think about 50 or so total, 5 at a time in front of a panel of judges.
