@KudendarX007 in oblivion you could unlock any lock with ease just by pausing the game right as you push the pin up. if you notice the pin go up quickly as the game pauses, just double tap A A and exit the screen, the immediately secure the pin in place.

@NeptuneWolf73 Lockpicks are more common in Skyrim, at least in the way I'm playing. Just a gentle tap with the lock will work- don't try to force it. Just go like *tap* and if the pick vibrates even a little bit, shift it until it doesn't- it's pretty much got its own endurance bar that doesn't recharge.

I don't like either system. The system in Oblivion was finicky and long-winded, and you tended to waste too many picks. I hated it until I found the Skeleton Key.

The Fallout 3/Skyrim system is simpler, and you can quick-load without loss if you break several picks.. However, it isn't really any better, because it's almost entirely random. You have no way of knowing where the right spot is. Even when you get close to it, it's a guess whether to try left or right.
