What does GAGE do that gives their gymnasts such excellent form. Ivana Hong has one of the only non-cowboyed double fronts I've ever seen, and Courtney's dismount here, I've rarely seen a double straight with less arching or piking, let alone the fact that she adds a full twist.

I find it funny how they talk about how excellent her form is (which mostly it is), but nobody mentions the fact that she FLEXES her feet in the middle of every kip.

Courtney should have had a much longer elite gymnastics career and she should have been put in team finals on bars and beam. She was way underscored on this event.

McCool shouldn't have been left off of bars in the team final - not after seeing that routine! I agree with the others who said that Carly just messed up. McCool would've gotten a higher score for the team.

agree! I know the judges loved Carly, but I think this routine could have set up Terin and CK well.. and it would have let Carly "rest" a bit.. was she the only one that did AA for the US that night??

I totally agree. It seems as if Marta has a thing against GAGE girls though. She sat McCool during the 2004 finals obviously and also had Ivana Hong sit out of the 2007 worlds finals. Pointless.

@schill2002 why? if marta hated the GAGE girls she wouldn't put them on major teams in the first place. courtney was struggling with her routines all throughout podium training, and both she and ivana bombed prelims in their respective competitions, whereas carly was rock-solid in quals: sticking her DTY, UB dismount, and making beam finals. while i still would have put courtney in at least on UB in TF, there's no denying that carly was the better competitor who outscored CMC on UB on this day

because carly outscored her in quals...should mccool's score have been higher, sure but the judges didn't judge it that way.

Seriously though, she rocks this event and I can't believe she didn't get a go on anything in the team final (she might've been marginally outscored by her teammates in the quals, but her consistency and amazing form should've counted for something).

She shouldn't have been outscored by her teammates. She had a better routine than both Humphrey and Kupets. Especially Kupets.

well, seeing how kupets was the reigning world champ on bars, or it might have been the year before they couldn't leave her out on bars as both terin and kupets medalled on bars these olympics. the beam mccool made a mistake in quals and kupets wasn't expected to get injured right before they moved to that event. they were also going off scores in quals. mccool was the only one that didn't make an even finals.

They should have definately put her in the TF for bars in the place of Carly. I loveeee carly but i think Courtney was a better choice for this particular event.

the only reason they used carly is cuz her score was a few tenths higher then courts in prelims.

They made a huge mistake not putting Courtney McCool on bars in TF. I was so angry when she wasn't in the lineup. It really came back to bite them in the buns when Carly faltered. Carly was a great all-arounder-but NOT a great bars worker. I still can't believe she was subbed for Courtney.

@Smurfjr2000 I don;t even are about that so much (well, a little, certainly it would've been nice to get gold) but it just *sucks* that such a great athlete was treated that way. She must've felt terrible--she deserved to help the team, in the finals. She didn't deserve the shaft like that, it was the wrong decision (as poor Carly showed) and it was just a bad decision (I blame 6-3-3- or whatever the ruling was where every score counted). I wonder if Marta's ever apologized?

There's only two prechosen coaches allowed on the floor with the team, so not every gymnast has their own coach.

her khorkina was better than terins inthink. i thin kthats a trademark of GAGE gymnasts. terin courtney and ivana all have simularities. i dont understand whythe heck she would change her dismount. the ending her routin with a perfect absolute straight double lay flyaway would impress th judges and end her routine more spectacularly. higher score maybe.

i know. she sgreta at this event. i dont understand why in the heck they would put carly on bars in TF. i could understand in quals cuz thye wanted her to qualify dfor the AA. but in TF. no . she made too many mistakes. courtney M would have been a better choice.

And when you think about it, the hickup on floor for Kupets was the first time she bobbled in a whole year. Carly had been inconsistent all year on bars, they should have known not to gamble like that. McCool or Bhardwaj should have gone on bars instead of Carly in TF.
