I am curious why old people declare war and make war useful and young people fight in the war. I read All Quiet in the Western Front and thought about this statement. I see older people plan out and declare war and see the young ones end up fighting in the war. Do you think what i say is true?
It's hard to find the quote so I will try to read All Quiet in the Western Front again since i read it for my english class. I mean, the soldiers in All Quiet in the Western front experience harsh times that they start to think that there are people older than them find war to be beneficial to them. In my mind, the use of force negates a lot of the good of any action. It is good to serve one's country. What some people don't understand, is that there are many more ways to serve your country than being in the military. And when they try to force you to serve, the best, bravest and most patriotic action is resistance - not compliance with this form of involuntary servitude.

It's like seeing poor and low income teens going to war and those guys are also decent or good achievers, while the rich gets to avoid the war. that make sense, those guys who declare the war are rich too. there is by chance that a draft will force low income and poor kids to go to war while the politician and president's sons/daughters will NOT go to war. It's hard to find the quote so I will try to read All Quiet in the Western Front again since i read it for my english class. I mean, the soldiers in All Quiet in the Western front experience harsh times that they start to think that there are people older than them find war to be beneficial to them. These soldiers came here to war after their schooling days. I wonder if the characters in the story relate to us today, the one who wrote this book is a war veteran too in WWI.

Having a draft will suck for those who will be drafted. If it happens to me, you, and everyone, chances are we may die in the battle field. That's why i loathe the aspect of war and draft because when there are more fighting, people will die and eventually the war will not stop. For people who do not fight, it may benefit them since the draft can put enough men to go to war for the sake of defense of the country. Do you think being drafted means we are doing service?

In my mind, the use of force negates a lot of the good of any action. It is good to serve one's country. What some people don't understand, is that there are many more ways to serve your country than being in the military. And when they try to force you to serve, the best, bravest and most patriotic action is resistance - not compliance with this form of involuntary servitude.

The American people were against the war so the administration goaded the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbour and they acted all surprised and outraged. Yes, it's quite a blindspot.
I'm sure if you lived in Germany in the early 40's you would say that Hitler was just trying to help save Europe from Jewish commies. Or in Japan you'd say that your military was helping liberate the peoples of Asia from Western domination. Both of these views were very common among ordinary people at the time. People would ignore stories of warcrimes as commie propaganda.

If you actually look into the history, you'll see that most ex-nazis kept their powers in West Germany, fascists and monarchists were retained in government in France, Italy and Greece to suppress or aid in the murder of popular governments and movements, and the Japanese militarists were kept in power, not only in Japan but also in South Korea and the surrendered Japanese army was rearmed to hold off Mao's advancing forces in China.

I'm talking about AFTER the war. The US and Britain used the axis military machine to prop up it's own power and fight off anti-fascist forces which were based on revolutionary ideals and had popular support. If you would like to learn further I reccomend "Killing Hope" by William Blum as a good first start.

if they were 'ex-nazis' it doesnt matter what theyre doing. it couldnt be people with the same attitudes running those countries bc wed still be warring w them. ive never heard of it but i wouldnt be surprized if there were dealings w. japans milit. to curb communist china. communism is the same problems of naziism or any other tyranny. and that doesnt make usa reprehensible.

Well, all they did was change the people at the top. The same repressive state keeps functioning and most people get to keep doing what they were doing. This shows that all imperialism is the same, regardless who's leading. As long as the elite can still make money it functions smoothly. Second of all, it shows that the warring powers weren't even most concerned about the others winning. They were most concerned with revolution. (Real) Communists were the main enemy of all of them.

There are three critical issues we face.
-The collapsing dollar and subsequently the economy.
-The escalating war which aims to conquer and control the Middle East.
-Our fast eroding Civil Rights and total emasculation of the Constitution.
If America ignores the obvious we will loose any chance to recover and once again be loved and strong. The beacon of hope and democracy for the world will be extinguished. All other issues and concerns are petty in comparison.

This fellow is absolutely correct.
I believe the best way to stop this thing is too support Ron Paul with all of our heart, and pocket book. We raised 4.3 million in one day and his support is growing like wildfire. This proves that we can win and we would be derelict in our duty as Americans if we do not use everything we have to get Ron Paul into the Presidency. We will never see a statesman nor an opportunity like this again.

I don't think Ron Paul has a problem with killing terrorists. He just doesn't want to keep wasting tax dollars ($1.6 TRILLION) on wars that go nowhere. Go to a recruiter and sign up if you want to kill terrorists. RP is an old school conservative like Pat Buchanan, not one of these ex commie neo-con, chicken hawks .

I agree with you completely on the border issue. However I could do without Iran having nuclear weapons, problem is that if Iran nuked Israel,,,they wouldn't stop there. Btw Hugo Chavez (who was recently photographed hugging Ahmadenijad) has said that he also wants to develop a nuclear program.

I think Israel will do something before then. If Iran were to attack Israel with nukes it would be suicide for the whole Middle East. Everywhere from Pakistan to Morocco would be hit with Israeli missiles. I've read about it, it's called The Samson Option.

Also just a note, I currently serve in the US Army and have already been to Iraq once (OIF III Jan 05-Jan06 100/442 Infantry). I'm no armchair-general, I understand firsthand what sacrifices must be made to secure this nation. We don't need to invade Iran,,,just bomb the hell out of them, much fewer Americans would die that way.

Well thanks for your service to our country. Yes I think bombing th nuke facilities would be a better option than a ground invasion and occupation which is getting very expensive in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's very tricky though. Iran has 11,000 missiles pointed at our troops and Israel. It's really going to be ugly when it goes down.

WW2 has been brought up as a challenge to Ray and he says he thought US involvement in WW2 was justified. He does however disagree with the use of the atomic bomb on the Japanese.
