  • and whats your point dude?that DT has not inspiration to make new ideas?if that so, you are fooled once again!!!take this alboume and some of this songs as a closing title from a period in their music that they coil in just a couple of songs.so beware of DT music first and then talk for them!

  • @jimitheater Read the description.......

  • @JpOctavarium then the nly i casn say is how useless is the video you make dude and there's no point of making it!so, DT brought back some of their old riffs...big deal!and you are intend to laugh at this why did you put such music in the beggining?beware of what and how you judge it...

  • @jimitheater Are you some sort of moron...? Read the description.

This video was made wayyyy before the album was released and as a fan I was just pointing out as a fun fact they were bringing back TGP riff.

If you would take the time to read the description you wouldn't look like a fool. And before you try flame other people learn to spell first.

  • the shattered fortress!!!!!!!

  • Ok, for all of u people who obviously have no clue as to wat people who write good music follow, it called classical training. Its like a classical piece (in other words, A SUITE??!! o.O ) that has a main theme, variations of the theme, and a return, or a reprise to the main theme. It shows that there is some kind of motivation to the music to get the listener to understand "This is wat im trying to say, hear me out." its not running outta ideas, its how u write music.

  • trust me, i go to school for that type of shit...i may sleep through half the class, lol, but its cuz i already understand half that shit anyway...its just good shit to know :)

  • It's because its part of mike portnoys 12 step program, on each album there's a song that tells the next part of how he got hrough his drug addiction, so the riffs come together collectively

The glass prison, This dying soul, the root of all evil, repentace, shattered fortress, so their not running out of ideas..its supposed to be 1 giant song lol

  • yeah that is common to do in prog bands, trust me its no accident hahahaha these guys are wonderful

  • @chromakey84 They're making him uptight... NO ACCIDENT! Hahah

  • good call on that one!

  • you are just jealous of this group. They are fucking genious, the best musicians ever and fuck you :D

just cause you cant create that amount of rythms, grooves, etc. What a dumbass

  • @aquaverga105 Read the description and check the date genius...

  • @JpOctavarium

    suck my dick :)

  • @aquaverga105 That's if you have one, and if you do it's probably the size of a peanut... Just like your brain.

    Die in a fire. :)

  • somebody know the song in the 0:03

  • Spanish Flea

    Ibanez rules btw.

  • oohhh thx men !!

  • it's Intentional asshole!!

  • Really?!?! Do you really think so?!?!

  • YES! It is something common of them

i'am argentine! asi que te escribro en español! jeje bye

  • Wow...you need new batteries in your sarcasm detector.

  • be adesso è facile ma a giugno risulto strano questo video non si capiva perche stesse facendo the glass prison nel nuovo album ora lo sappiamo tutti perche :-)

  • fatal tradity????

  • its a song from 'the shattered fortress' with a collection of thir past songs like repentance, glass prison, root of all evil, fatal tradity and some others i cant think of

  • the 12 step suite is;

    Glass Prison

    This Dying Soul

    Root of All Evil

    Repentance

    The Shattered Fortress

  • Ofcourse there's twelve.... Just responding to StefanPetrucci :)

  • Bravo hai scoperto l'America!!

  • Bravo, sei un deficiente!!

  • grazie,molto gentile...

  • Di niente...

  • how much stupid are you?

  • Who do you mean and why?

  • I removed your latest comment to save you from looking like an idiot.

This video was made before the new album came out, and it was just to point out that they were indeed bringing back a riff. I think a normal fan would realize I made this video to put out some info on the new album and I think a normal fan would have appreciated it due to the lack of info we had on the new album.

To save yourself from further embarrassing moments read video description next time genius.

  • sorry I haven't read the description of the video, but surely I'm not an idiot, I only thinked that you wanted to insult my favourite band and so I write you like that. I'm sorry.

however i could immagine also if the album wasn't already exit that the song was the conitue of th 12 steps saga

  • Dream Theater is the best.

  • It would be cool that DT create a song called 'Relapse' on the next album, and say that it's the 13th step of the 12 step saga :P

  • May I ask why? 13 steps in a 12 step saga?

  • I hope everyone commenting knows that the last song in the AA Saga is on the new album and those drum riffs are for the song Shattered Fortress. Which by the way, since they're all out now, you can listen to them in a playlist in iTunes and it's pretty much like a whole album with the last 5 albums they've released.

  • Is the saga... any other answer to this video?

  • its part of song writing and continuing songs.......

    DT OWNS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

  • i think that the AA saga is so amazing *.*

  • dream theater has been bringing back parts of old songs since Images and Words. it's no secret...and they do it intentionally. the entire scenes from a memory album is based on metropolis from images and words...not to mention they've reused riffs from 6 degrees of inner turbulance, train of thought, systematic chaos...it's intentional...and i actually kind of like that they do that. they're great musicians, they're not out of ideas...they like making the listener feel at home

  • can I just say.... so?

Shattered Fortress contains riffs from AA songs albums from Six Degrees until present day.... it's a saga conclusion. The whole point of it is to reuse riffs.

  • The video is accurate, retards.

  • i can only say that Dream Theater's new album is pretty great

    they made an impressive work

  • you are wrong about JP playing

  • Listen to The Shattered Fortress and you'll see who is wrong.

  • of course i listened the song.. it is really the MP action, but john its playing another thing.

  • John plays exactly the same riff in the shattered fortress, the one after the the drum fill.

In the song the riff beggins at 1.52 the drum fill beggins at 2.02 and they keep on playing the same riff until 2.35. James even sings over it.

  • of course it is the same riff!! The Shattered Fortress its kind of a compilation of The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil and Repentance!! You can see why on wiki! just type "Twelve-step Suite"

  • All written by MP by the way...

  • shattered fortress is awesome song! The Final chapter!

  • I agree that song kicked my ass

  • It's absolutely amazing.. Portnoy is such a great artist, to do this chapters is just great. They all fit together..

    Amazing album, amazing.

  • I have the full album and I can say that they brought back several riffs from the AA suite including the one in this video. So there is the answer for all the idiots that called this video a fake or whatever.

  • All you brainless creatures posting meaningless comments - look at what the author said in the description. He's right.

Today I got BC&SL and I can say that the drum track from this video is for The Shattered Fortress, which most of you "fans" should know is the last part of the AA saga. The first one was The Glass Prison. It is a law that the themes will be present again. Okay? Read the description.

  • wow Great dude

  • Yeah i think you're right mate. Good spot!

Can't wait for this album :) The 2 song si have a i fucking love, both totally differnet styles but amazing.

  • I Love The Glass Prison!!!!

  • i think dt is looking at all of these vids and just laughing!!! I swear...the final product of the album is going to be so much different...and their just puting these "previews" as a decoy!!aha

  • Yes, I also noticed that this particular drum pattern sounded much like this section of The Glass Prison. I also noticed that A Rite of Passage souded too much like The Root of All Evil.

  • The tempo isn't exact, you can hear them speeding up at the end...

But anyways, I've noticed that they do that sometimes. They SORT OF revisited a riff from 'Sacrificed Sons' in 'In the Presence of Enemies.'

    They changed the meters though.

  • shattered fortress ;)

  • DT have used the same riffs in their songs before, then change them slightly, Its really cool, DT are the only band that really have all their songs connected.

  • Well spotted... That's definitely the same riff being brought back. Can't wait to hear it!

  • chek my blog i have 2 new songs with lyrics from the new album

  • probably it's a part of ''the shattered fortress''...the last chapter of the 12 steps saga...so it's normal to find parts similar or equal to the other songs of the suite

  • This is from the Glass prison....

  • There is no prooves this a recording session of the new album.

  • There is no prooves...

  • Yeah, DT brings back riffs all the time...:) So I guess this is part of the AA-thing, like you said ^^

  • the first parte The Glass Prison

  • Ok, I really think this riff and drumming are exactly the same as in The Glass Prison, let's remember that TGP is a part of a big, very big, masterpiece involving 5 songs that are meant to be connected as ONE, so it's normal to go back to another riffs, and hell I love that riff!!! :P

  • By the way, thanks for posting this, JpOctavarium.

PS: Yeah the beginning is just like the start of 6'00!! I don't know why, I'm pretty sure that 6'00 has nothing to do with the 12 steps suit... maybe just coincidence..

  • A lo mejor esa parte es parte de una nueva pieza de Mike Portnoy... de la serie de Glass Prison, Dying Soul, Root of All Evil y Repentance...

  • Well it makes sense doesnt it? id say im 99% sure that this is from the last song in the AA saga which the glass prison is the 1st song of! n portnoy always intended it 2 be 1 giant song, ofcoarse they're gonna reuse riffs n themes, they're known for doing that, listen 2 This Dying soul and the Root of all Evil! Or a simlar case, Metropolis Pt 1 and Home.

  • Pretty sure your exactly right, thank you for pointing it out. I mean, its a no brainer to find this stuff out to whoever made this vid.

    Cheers bud.

  • remember... the whole album Metropolis pt.2 have riffs and lirycs from metropolis pt. 1 C=

  • be suspicious....of great songwriting! Dream Theater has never run out of ideas, repeated concepts or done wishy washy bullshit like other bands. If anything, this was SUPPOSED to be found, so that people will realize the "full circle"ness of the AA saga. So yeah, dream theater kicks ass.

  • it mostly likely is the shattered fortress (last AA song) and to sum it up they could have parts of the other AA songs to add to the epicness (if thats a word)

  • it's the last part of the AA suite you cunt!!! ...have a nice day

  • man... this could be only a part that they picked from TGP, like repetence of the systematyc chaos... they took a part from this dying soul!!!

    it's normal

  • This song I will gaurantee is the next part in the Portnoy recovery series. The Glass Prison was first he is obviously bringing it back full circle!

They have all been great so get off their dicks!

  • Nice observation

  • dude the maker is a dumbass they do copy riffs but its not going to be the exact same. the will make the chords in diff modes, augmented or dimminished if i spelt those right which i prob didnt. we have no reason to be suspicous dt is the vest band and they would nvr dissapoint their fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • duuuuuuuuuude :p this is obviously off of the last part of the AA suite. Everyone knows that this album finishes the suite. So fuck the maybe sayers :D this is the 'forrealdeal'

    CAN'T WAIT!

  • Maybe is the next part of The Galss Prison, This Dying Soul, The Root of All Evil and Repentance don't you think?

  • could be

  • dudes!

If you really listening to this band you will realize that they like to put some parts of some musics in others

    and I fuckin dig this!

  • remember that the glass prison is part of a big song of mike portnoy about the 12 steps, so maybe that riff is on the new part of that song, just like in the root of all evil exis a riff of this dying soul

so in conclusion, your video suck man XD

    Live DT

  • Ok.....you should learn how to read the video descriptions.

  • ha, i dont think anyone reads the discription

i try to most of the time

  • Pwnt! Good observation, by the way. I watched the drum tracks before but never linked it to The Glass Prison, so this has got me thinking. Thanks for the vid.

  • You Fucking Faggot It's a continuation of the AA Saga. God, you queers know nothing. FAG!!!!

  • i agree w/ everyone w/ this probably finishing the AA suites. as for petrucci, we wont really know until the album comes out or when some ass leaks it

  • This may be the last couple of steps for Mike's AA Suite, in which case the repeated melodies and arrangements would be the point.

  • And no one notices similarities to 6:00 at the beginning?

  • yeah lol

I knew it was familiar, but couldn't put my finger on it until i read your comment.

  • now that you say it of course

  • What's the name of the song at the beginning?

  • Spanish Flea I think

  • Obviously...

It's a new part of the AA suite which has several reoccurring themes...

  • Mike Portnoy said on his forum, "Imagine a DT album with "A Change of Seasons", "Octavarium", "Learning to Live", "Pull Me Under" and "The Glass Prison" all on one album. So that pretty much tells you that the album might have some riffs from the past.

Plus, it tells you that this album is going to be amazing!!!

  • I have a doubt, why is this going to be the LAST part? Mike said it or what?

  • maybe not the last part, maybe it's just one or two steps of the AA stuff. we can't tell for sure until we get our hands on the record! haha still im excited as hell about this

  • I see, thanks :D!

I'm so impacient :@... Want to listen to this new album so damn much...

  • ya, i know what you mean haha

  • it must be Mike´s traditional song about alcohol abuse, those songs often have riffs comming back from song to song

  • this doesnt mean they are running out of ideas... first off, mike portnoy mentioned we would hear things like glass prision, pull me under, octavarium, etc in this new album... so maybe they were playing it to get new ideas off of the glass prison, and also as mentioned before, the glass prison is part of the AA suite, and the last part is coming in this new album... so trust me, they are NOT running out of ideas

  • so tell it to DT that your a guitarist

  • Lol... pretty sure most drummers noticed this, clearly it will be a part of the AA suite which have many recurring themes.

  • I'm a guitarist and I noticed it as soon as I heard it, it's pretty obvious.

  • its gonna be the last part of the AA suite.

  • i don't think they're running out of idea...

But i think they just like to have that part in their new album//

Like metropolis and dance of eternity...

Their patterns are really look alike

  • no, it's the AA suite

    recurring riffs in songs

    The Glass Prison

    This Dying Soul

    The Root Of All Evil

    Repentance

the last song in the suite will be on the new album

  • Chances are I am not the first one to say this, but it is probably them bringing certain elements from different songs back so the AA Suite can be easily linked.

  • hey moron mike is doing a series of songs that r about his AA shit he makes them link w/ some of the riffs if u listen 2 glass prison and this dying soul theres a breakdown riff there so get a life ass unless u can write a better album then them shut your hole and leave the gods 2 work

  • Not sure who you are calling a moron, but I agree with you.

  • could you tell me what is the name from song when star this video?? thanks

  • you never know this might be apart of the annoymous songs that mike p links together

he uses the tds riff in repentence

hes probably using the the glass prison in this song

  • apologies if it's been said already in the comments already but remember that this is the album that they are (hopefully) finishing the AA saga, of which The Glass Prison was the first part. So, he may be playing the same riff as in TGP on purpose, because all the songs in the AA saga take musical and lyrical cues from previous songs in the saga.

    just my 2 cents

  • and if they are finishing it on this album its only right that they link it to the first song, thought it was going to go into 6:00 in the first few seconds

  • I don't remember where, but mike portnoy said that one of the new songs coul be the same as the glass prison. Or maybe, they where playing this song all 2, just for work...

  • actually this is a scene from 6 degrees drumming video and it's actually glass prison with and without bground music. this guy is fooling u.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry if i'm being mistaken but the scene exactly looks like a scene in that dvd.

  • why doesn´t he use his albino monster?

  • Because he builds a new kit for every album.

    That's probably the new one.

  • looks like hes back to 2 kits, i think a small one is setup as well.

  • i wish Mike would give me his old discarded kits for free... haha i'd become millionaire :D

  • I want the new album! :D

  • Although they could just be warming up, I think it'd be sick if they worked that riff in again. I like how they quote themselves musically. Makes you feel like you're on a freaking saga of prog that spans many albums.

  • Actually that drum riff sounds like 6:00 on Awake!

  • for a bit it does, but it doesn't go into the right grove if you're talking about the intro in 6:00.

  • yeah just the fills at the start

  • Maybe they're bringing back a riff from The Glass Prison for the final part of the AA suite

  • Well duh, MP and JP are recycling riffs throughout the whole suite, I just hope they incorporate all the parts of root of all evil :P.

  • Must just mention that through the last however many albums there are a stream of songs which all share riffs. Such as Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, Repentance, etc. The AA songs. So the idea of them reprising a riff from one of these songs really isnt that awful! Fill and a half though, Rock on.

  • Does the Jordan's Keyboard is a ROLAND????????!!?!?!!?!?!

    and the OASYS? Nnooooooooooooo!!!

In the last LTE tour Jordan had a Roland!

I hope he doesn't use this keyoboard whit Dream theater too! :(

  • Jordan has a vast selection of keyboards in the studio, his main one being the Oasys.

And there is nothing wrong with the Roland, the one he used in the LTE tour had a programming problem, it happens.

  • holly shit, haven´t you think that they could possibly be rehearsing

  • Are you people retarded?

What part of this video, is part of the xmas video that contains A SNEAK PEAK OF THE DRUM TRACKS OF THE NEW ALBUM, did you not understand?

MIKE PORTNOY himself said that the video is a preview of the new album.

  • They've just rehearsing.

  • Yes...Mike released on his own forum an OFFICIAL SNEAK PEAK OF THE NEW DREAM THEATER ALBUM DRUM TRACKS of them just rehearsing...that's right.

  • You realize, even in an interview, he says he likes to keep people guessing and shit, that's why he puts tracks up on limewire and stuff of the songs names, but with different song tracks, so people download them, but not the REAL song, he's PLAYING WIF YOUR MIND!

  • Oh rly?

    What interview? Where?

Never in the history of Dream Theater has it been done.

The only thing that happened once was that a FAN changed the title of the songs of James LaBrie's solo album with the ones in Octavarium and posted it on the net.

And Mike mentioned it on a radio interview with Eddie Trunk.

It's so easy to grab any song and change its title, anyone can do it.

I don't think Mike would personally log onto his forum and post a fake album preview.

  • Well I do remember an interview where he said so. This IS from the new album, I'm just saying, like he said, he likes to build up suspense and get word of mouth started, so he released some songs under names of songs off the album they were currently working on. I'm not making this up, I saw an interview or whatever a couple days ago, where he said this himself. He didn't say that a fan did it, but that he has done it himself. Not trying to be "right" in this situation, but ya, that's all i know

  • ei la cancion ?? quien es? ? q canciones ?? el de las trompetas alguine me puede deciiir porfavor !!

  • Hail Mike Portnoys AA-suite:D

    They totally rock!

  • Jajajajaja!!

    The end:

BE SUSPICIOUS BE SUSPICIOUS BE SUSPICIOUS BE SUSPICIOUS BE SUSPICIOUS

    XDDDDD

Great video! This is certainly The Glass Prison, we are witnessing the "AA" saga continuation.

  • Its Obviously the Glass Prison, which yes is apart of the "AA Suite" Certain key licks have been used in there follower, such as, This Dying Soul, was used in The Root of all Evil and Repentance.

  • Agree!

  • Yes, just like the rest of the AA songs, they all have references to each other (other than glass prison of course, which is the first AA song). I think this is the final of the AA suite, though I could be wrong

  • si es suestamente la grabacion de "the glass prison"

¡por que rudess tiene su particular barba blanca?

a lo mejor es solo un gran parecido

como entre "this dying soul" del "train of thought"

y el mismo "the glass prison" del "6DOIT"

  • On the press release, Mike Portnoy did say there would be elements of The Glass Prison, as well as songs like Learning to Live and A Change of Seasons. Hell, this next album is going to be rockin'!

  • I apologize, well I rewatch the video and fuck, I did not realise that it was the next part of the A.A suite !

So it's not a "big" present for the fans, cause it's only the proof that he will continue the suite :)

    Anyway I apologiz guys

  • It's sounds more like at LTE song for me

  • Damn I can't believe that.....If any of you are fans of DT, stop watching this vid cause' it's not from the next album. Mike did not record the sessions yet, the only videos that you can see of the new album are just some argewing between Jordan John and Mike. And damn ! Look at JP, he is back with short hairs ! This is a video from SDOIT !

  • Yes, he did... he released this video of drum tracks during Christmas...

    watch?v=c0Wh66jNuso&feature=related

Also, Six Degrees was recorded at BearTracks Studio...

    This is not Beartracks...

  • Well obviously you are not a fan.

This video was released as a christmas gift from mike to his forum.

    The studio is Avatar Studios.

SDOIT was recorded at BearTracks studios.

Dream Theater has not recorded at BearTracks since 2002 (SDOIT), and BearTracks ceased operation shortly after Spyro Gyra recorded their 2006 album Wrapped in a Dream.

  • LOOOL!

Watch "Making of 6DOIT" before saying something like this. You'll see the drum is different, and Petrucci's hair is NOT short in this video, he just tied it (look at the pics in JR blog).

  • so...simular to glass prision

    FANTASTIC!!!!!

  • Absolutely, the glass prison is one of my favorites among the DT songs :)

  • hell yer, i think its the best ever intro to a song...

they said this album will have a song simular to glass prision so i know this album will rule! :)

  • why don't you let the clips run longer than a few seconds? because, of course, they begin to go out of sync. this is silly.

  • its probably the final part to MP's alcoholic suite, because they are supposed to have similarities. Kind of sounded like 6:00 at first, than a bit like paradigm shift

  • does anyone know when the new album is supposed to be out?

  • May.

  • The first part of the drum solo sounds like 6:00!!!!....and that's true!!! it also sounds like the glass prisson!!!....it sucks!!!

  • DUDE, Read comments! And you'll get the reason, damn it -.-

  • Wouldn't it be awesome if they would then play the whole song on the tour? Cause this will be the last chapters right of the story right?

Having The Glass Prison, This Dying Soul, The Root Of All Evil, Repentance and the new song played as one song live. Would be longer than playing the entire Six Degrees title song. Like 50 minutes!

  • VV I agree.

I bet that will turn up on the finale of the AA suite.

  • How could anyone not have suspected the AA suite? xxxx
