I used to not be able to tell one bird from another. But I had a girlfriend who got me interested in casual birdwatching. Now it is something I truly enjoy. I rarely use binoculars and I can usually ID the common ones in my area. I don't ever set out to watch them, but notice them when I'm hiking or going to and from work and whatnot.
Good cinematography. The up & down flight of the finch may help it from being caught by predators, same w/ Woodpeckers as they have a similar style of flight. We miss seeing the 20 some goldfinches we used to have, as they may move around in proceeding generations. We enjoy the wildlife and feed them year round, as they're quite entertaining. On a recent visit by a hawk, everyone hid, but a hummingbird was hovering over the hawk knowing it coudn't be caught trying to chase it off.
Thank You - I never thought about the up and down flight as being strategic, but now you mention it; that makes so much sense. It was interesting about how the hummingbird could hover above the hawk. Watching nature really can throw up some surprises from time to time... Hope your goldfinches return for you again soon.
I love birds. Just bought a new feeder today. I live in the city now, I used to live in the country. I had two seed feeders, two hummers feeders, four birdhouses. Nice job!
Nice finch collection you got there. I've got those same little guys in my backyard here in Oklahoma although they seem to be gone during this hot time of year. It was nice to see a video NOT shot with a cameraphone and not of sideways hat wearing kids falling off skateboards and under the tires of friends cars.
It's very simple, it's about appreciating nature. It's not a movie about killing or abuse, it's just nature at it's best, try to enjoy it, you may learn to love it too. :)
Thanks for your compliments! It's amazing how much the finch population has increased over the past few years locally. Perhaps you will have the same good fortune with the purple finches where you live.

Love birds! The ones you have captured here are so very beautiful. Where we live the purple finches are rather rare anymore.
