I never heard of this guy before but my uncle must have seen him at some time cause he used to do a similar act & called it his polish magicians act when I was a little kid in the 70's. When I saw it on the family guy, I always wondered where Seth McFarland had gotten it from.

@coolremo88 Hmmm, don't remember the Family Guy reference, but I was just watching the 30 Rock Live Show (East Coast) and thought that Jack was referencing this act (don't know how I recognized the song after more than two years) when he did some unimpressive magic to this song.
The difference, the Simpsons for example the "Duffless" episode uses an homage of "A Clockwork Orange" where Bart is reaching up, not a direct rip off. Hell, most of the time the Simpson staff get permission, in this case; from Kubrick.
Maybe Art wouldn't have had a problem with it, if it wasn't in the context it was actually used. Not that I care, but he's Jewish/Christian, it might've offended him. So when you use his material in a manner that he didn't want it used, I'd be pissed too.
I think they could have saved themselves a lot of bother by listing him in the credits.
The grudge is it wasn't well known enough to be public domain when they used it as a lot of the stuff they usually use is.
Infact before then barely anyone had heard of Metrano so when they used it and didn't credit him, to many people it appears like an original idea, which I know if it had been my act would have pissed me off .
it's The Great Metrano's joke, and has been for years. I've seen him do this routine since the 70's when he would do it on TV all the time.

Nothing beats Art Metrano in the Police Academy movies. Just wish he wasn't a bad sport about the Family Guy thing.

Family Guy tends to have random homages (or rip-offs), always wondered where the Jesus Dance came from.
