very poor reaction to being wrong... the point of you being wrong about relativity is that you think time doesn't dilate and it's just a trick of perception. to be fair to vhidioten, we might be able to create new ethics under conditions that we encounter during exploration. being stuck in very limited environment in a small community with extremely hostile outside and clear purpose could force "objectification of the subjective" to stay in your frame of idealism.

my concern with a 'stick' approach in something like the current school is that, i think a lot of kids do badly in the current system because it doesn't get them interested in learning. i don't want to punish some kid for the school system's failures. if they can do well, great, but if they can't i don't know if blaming them is that effective (at least in many cases)
