Absolutely wonderful. Can you recommend a course of study on this topic for me . I wish to study the technology. Thanks. Please reply to rotimi_morgan@yahoo.co.uk. Thank you.Regards. RMMorgan
very nice!!! would have been more impressive with a hard plastic. The fuzzy foam dosen't let the true resolution show!! I use solidworks, mastercam and mach 3, what do you use?
@diyengineer cut2d/3d are cam programs, somewhat expensive (200 each or 350 for both or so), and made by vectric, but much cheaper than something like mastercam. I haven't tried out anything else, so I don't have any comparison, but they do work well. My favorite feature is preview, and you can see how your part is going to be cut out. You can download a trial (for both), and there are some demo parts you can do. How I'd explain it is that 2d is extrusions and 3d is curves
with mach3 can you import files from autocad? I know how to draw 3d parts in multiple cam programs, but I'm much better with autocad, and can't afford mastercam.
mach3 is a CNC controller - it takes G code. CAD programs draw the parts (like autocad, solidworks), CAM programs take that shape and draw tool paths in G code (like mastercam)
There are actually quite a few ways to do it, some companies make servo-encoder kits that can be retrofitted onto virtually any manual machine (space permitting). After that it's just software to control the axes.
Ya know what? I have the weirdest boner right now.

@diyengineer I use cut2d/cut3d with mach 3 and inventor... if it matters :P

@krap101 What is cut 2D/3D is that the cam program? Free or how much? Easy to use?

What software did you use to generate g-code?
stefke72yamaha 1 year ago
I used deskprot.
CNCx1 1 year ago
Please explain what or who generated the g-code for this object. Thanks.

Sorry. I don't Know how to import files from autocad...

ok, thanks. I just downloaded demo version and it worked.

@Aev308 I think mach 3 imports text files with g-code in them. I use inventor with pdf's, dxf's, or stl's
krap101 1 year ago
@Aev308 Yes Truly sucks that mastercam is not user friendly like auto cad! I agree with you totally!

What kind of lathe is that?
Are you controlling the lathe thru Mach?
rikirikado 2 years ago
It's not lathe. 4axis milling machine.
controlling it thru Mach

@CNCx1 how much is a 4-axis milling machine?

Nice job! How effective was that turbine once you got the final part made? =)

muy buena la maquina. me podria compartir vuestro soft. gracias.

What kind of gearbox is that you're using for your 4th axis? Where does one *get* a gearbox like that?
Thanks.
rtwas 2 years ago
This gearbox is called "ball reducer". It's non-backlash gearbox. i got it at second-hand mechanical parts shop.

What software drives the mill?
evildrome 2 years ago
It's Mach3.
CNCx1 2 years ago
Mach Turn? I didn't know you could have separate control of the main spindle with Mach 3.
evildrome 2 years ago
Ignore me. I see that its a mill with a 4th axis.

Job shop owners and machine tool operators will be talking about this new CNC from Siemens.
The CNC EyeTeam has just broken the story. Ive copied their news video on my YouTube page.

where did you get the model for the impellor?
I've had such a hard time maping that compound curve. any tips you can give would be greatly appreciated

I drew this model with 3D CAD.

I made this model by 3D CAD.
I don't have enough knowledge of compound curve...
