Just do a Google search of "reporters killed in Russia" and click on the first link. Also do a Google search for "human rights abuse" and you will get numerous articles detailing the suppression of people's freedoms. You have to be living in a cave to think that Russia is a place of tranquility.

What is the problem with Chechnya? The terrorism has been crashed there and the province has come back to normal. It is very unfortunate that Anna has been shot but you cannot blame the russian people for that. She has been working for Boris Berezovsky, the well known mafia boss hiding in Britain, and she was in touch with the chechen criminals and after all 2 of them shot her dead. Unfortunately, Americans fail to understand that "russian" and "soviet" are two different things and not even synonyms. Stalin was not russian but he butchered a lot of them. In this sense Stalin is no way better than Hitler. Afterall, russians defeated both nazism and communism, the two most evil systems of the 20th century. This nation has indeed reasons to be proud of.

This is true, it is a different government, which were the ones who carried out the atrocities. The people do deserve such an anthem for overcoming so much. The biggest issue in america is that we use communism as a synonym for military dictatorship. Since originally the first was set up under a dictatorship, we assume they all have to be. There could be a true soviet republic, which was what Mikhail Gorbachev tried to set up, which would treat its people fairly.

@slobhinav If you read more and get into details, you would understand that Stalin isn't any evil either. Yes, the live standards were poor (for some time) because he had to industrialize Russia in mere years (repeat what the West did in 1800th). He sentenced over 300k people basically because of massive corruption and sabotage of those who didn't follow the country development plans (eg. industrialization). Stalin was in fact a great leader who turned a very poor country into a real superpower.
