This is in Kyle's sophomore year, he was wrestling hwy's at beginning of season and cut to 215's. This was first match of his season at 215 and Kyle was not a ranked at the time of this match. He did not intend to hurt the AA wrestler, he weighed almost 100lbs lighter that the hwy's he was wrestling before Christmas break. He was disqualified to compete in Colo Spgs Metro Tournament next weekend. His freestyle and Greco accomplishments were the years after this was filmed.

The smaller kid from Air Academy (blue/silver singlet), acually wrestled 171's earlier in season and the AA coach moved him to 89's after Christmas and this the first duel back from break, Kyle was supposed to wrestle the ranked 215 from AA at the duel in Air Academys gym, but the coach swithched the smaller kid at the last second so the ranked kid would not wrestle Kyle and moved him up to wrestle our weaker hwy.

@everybody, the knee things is true but the dude landed on his head/shoulder. it wasnt a super aggresive slam or anything but it was just the severity of how he landed, now if that happened 2 me while i was wrestling and i wasnt hurt, i wouldve got the dude back for slamming me like that in the 1st place. because its also about respect of the sport, u dont go around slammin your opponent on their head or neck even if u didnt mean to u gotta prevent yourself from doin slams that could lead to it.

His head was the first to contact the mat, and throw over head, The ref can call this at his discretion. Kyle was the teams heavyweight wrestler at the time cutting to 215. His opponent weighed in at 185 and his coach bumped him up a weight class to wrestle Kyle. Kyle said that when he made the throw, he didnt mean to slam him because he felt so light (notice his reation at the end). I think that since his head was first to contact the mat / pick him up over the head, the throw was illegal?

iceman you are correct, but the referee has an interpretation to determine if the throw was made with control and without malice. I think there was definatly total control in this throw, but the opponent's head was the first bodypart to hit the mat? Thus resulting in an disqualification and loss. If you watch the very end, you can see Kyles body language that he had no intention of hurting his opponent, but rather didnt expect to wrestle a boy who weighed 175 and Kyle weighed in at 215.

MMAFanUK, Thank you for the question. There are three kinds of amature wrestling. The first is folk style (youth, high school, college) and the second and third are both Olympic styles: freestyle and Greco. This particular match is a high school match in folk style. For the youths safety they are not allowed to pick an opponent up over the head and throw to the ground. This is considered an illegal throw and disqualification. Olympic style this is allowed. Good question
