Mike olfield is a genious, there is no doubt about it, but when Maggie Reilly sings his songs I just pay attention to her absolutely gorgeous voice, and her "story-telling" delivery... thanks for uploading!
M.O was able to perform song not commercial, like the first ones of his career (not commercial tub. bell is probably wrong to say) or in late Amarok.
Crisis and Discovery are fantastic commercial album. The demostration that when you're a great player and song writer you are able to perform also a good pop song. Take a listen not only to the voice of M.R or to the Old. Guit. but also to the bass: is not common to find anyone who play a pop porker to perform so. by
"To france" and "talk about your life" are in the same record, "Discovery". It's not the only track on the record that has the disctintive "to france" tune, and it's not the first time that Mike Oldfield uses a disctintive "tune" across a record. Other example is "Five Miles Out" where you can hear almost the same melody from "Five Miles Out" on "Taurus II"
TH: Yes, both songs are from the 1984 "Discovery" album. I love how the "To France" is dropped in. When I first heard it, I remember going "hey, what's that ...?" with a shiver going down my spine. And props to the sound on this. Just as perfect as the studio version.
This song (and many others like Blue Night or Crystal Gazing) makes me remember somebody. The lyrics ... well ... I like this album. Mike Oldfield is a very versatile musician.
Though Mike Oldfield seems a bit distant here, this song of stately beauty touches on raw emotions and, performed live, sounds more affecting than on the album version. Brilliant
This Album helped me get through a teenage broken heart in 1986...and my Yr 12 exams in Darwin...still brilliant, just ordered it through "Red Eye Records" in Sydney Australia (I wore out that tape back in the early 90's
what a unbelievably great voice Barry Palmer has. It is a rare occasion that performers are excelling in quality without all these digital patchup giglets these days.
Is there any Cado Belle footage out there???? By rights Maggie in Cado should have had all the success of Average White Band, the other great Caledonian Funksters....
it´s maggie sister of paul mcartney?

That riff at the end is from To France or is it the other way round? Fits well in however, as does Maggie's voice - as always.
