Don't want to sound overly sentimental and PauliAnna-ish, but if we encourage kids in school to participate music group like this, we would solve most of the problems in the world.
I understand few achieve this kind of stunning, heavenly beauty with their singing, but God, this is what we need.
i agree with GreatSongwriters. good singing, but at the same time (i don't mean to toot my own horn), when i was in highschool my choir sang another version which i thought was much better than this. my own opinion anyways
Actually, both the Darke and the Holst versions were composed pretty much at the same time, at the beginning of the 19th century, they are both "Traditional"
You mean at the beginning of the 20th century! Rossetti wrote the text as a poem before 1872 but it was not published until 1904, after her death. Holst's setting is from 1906 but many composers set it around then and since, with Darke's being the most performed now and his version being voted the best carol of all in a poll of choral experts in 2008.
Hey thanks for posting this video. I was curious about this alternative tune. Actually metrically the words fit better this one than the more popular tune by Gustav Holst.
Wowee wow wow wow.... I have to agree with the comments below. Just came across this by accident but these guys have voices smooth as silk. Thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks.
Your're right Vata, these guys are taking close harmony singing to a totally new place - it's always amazing to hear guys singing this way, and the fact that they are very good looking is a nice bonus for us ladies ;) Well done BLAKE!!
Really enjoyed this, the soloists are both fantastic, such clear voices - really special song for me too - well done BLAKE - great album and christmas single too!!!
i sang this as a solo in my primary skool ^-^

Loved the singing but not the tune. I prefer the traditional tune.

The performance is very nice. The words to the hymn deserve our meditation at the CHristmas season and in every season.

I think it is the correct tune, just a slightly different arrangement to what you are possibly used to..

@AledTreble If my memory serves me right, this is a John Rutter arrangement.

This one is by Harold Darke, there's another (simpler) setting by Gustav Holst.
