Rain Dances was the first Camel ablum I ever listened to, and it will always have a special place for me. My intro to prog. Don't get me wrong, I love Breathless, Nude, I Can See Your House From Here, etc. But Rain Dances will always be #1 for me.

@whisky2roxy Hey dude! This band kills me.!aH . Their good musicians period..They have this formula or ''something'' in their songs that somehow allows them to cruise around and improvise with out any major fuck ups, while creating and writing songs? That little guitar lick at ''6:36 on snow goose experts is mine now! !aH That lick has got to be from the greatest hits of 1695? They are very interesting by using music to paint their pictures of earth and space..They are different to me.
@dannyhood66 I guess that was a more-or-less positive review? If so, glad you like them! I've tried hard to listen to more modern "prog" like Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, etc. To me it's just a bunch of noise. Oh well.
@whisky2roxy You know,''to be honest i never got into dream theater. I liked the first album for a period of a month or so''..They do have some bad ass shit but most of it does not grab me like it does my other guitar buddies "Idiots.!aH Funny thing cause all through high school it was all about rush and then yngwie..But its like some of them are playing progressive metal and have no clue of understanding the old black sabbath groove..I like to play this band before sleeping dream state!
@whisky2roxy I know its a delayed reply, but is it possible that you've been listening to only the more modern stuff from Porcupine Tree? Might I suggest a few songs if you don't mind? They are: "Fadeaway", "Nine Cats", "Every Home Is Wired", "Stars Die". Most of them are mellow, slow songs, and I think you might do yourself a favor by giving them another chance!
@TheStigsIndianCousin Wow! I completely forgot about this string of comments. Actually, I have In Absentia, as it came highly recommended. For me it's OK, but I just don't play it much. When I want some good prog, I end up dragging out the old standards like Genesis, Floyd, Tull, Camel, Yes etc. But I will certainly have a listen to your suggestions. Thanks!
@whisky2roxy Haha, yeah, as expected. In Absentia is sort of a good way to get into more serious prog stuff from PT if you are a former hard rock/metal fan kind of person. That's how I started. But their earlier music is, as I said, mellower. Nice for King Crimson fans like me :D
@whisky2roxy You should also get the 'Deadwing' and 'Fear of a Blank Planet' PT albums. They are an amazing band and worth the extra time and effort to get familiar with.

@dannyhood66 That was back in the 1976-1979 era, a great period for LA bands and rock in general. I haven't been there for thirty years, so I have no idea what it's like today. I live in Boston now so it would be a bit of a hike to find out!
@whisky2roxy Ah shit i must be stupid to think that it was 3 bucks,''Your lucky! You probably got to see randy rhoads quiet riot late 70s and van halen all that killer shit..You definitely were there before the trendy hair metal scene took over..Even though bands like quiet riot and van halen kinda invented it..!aH I didnt play whiskey till late 80s early 90s..You were there during the punk scene? Or was it still rock and roll? That mid 70s era sunset strip has always been interesting some reaso
I only saw van halen at backyard parties. They were one of the best local party bands in arcadia/pasadena. I didn't care much for what they later became with fame...sort of a clownish, lightweight pseudo-rock band like Kiss and Arrowsmith.
My whisky days were during the burgeoning LA punk scene. Those groups played all over LA in small clubs and basements like the masque, madame wongs, larchmont hall, etc. A great and innovative time indeed!
@whisky2roxy Dude,''That is so cool, you got to see them in a backyard,''somewhere in the San Gabriel valley area..I lived in El Monte for a year or so in 87,''ten years to late!''..And i remember hanging out with people that i had just met,'' and partying with them,''in their backyards,''They would always ask if i played''insrument..I wasn't playing anywhere at that time,''jamming very little cause of the work i was doing..I remember a guy telling me van halen played where we were standi

@dannyhood66 Yes for me most post-70's rock is dreadfully boring; basically the same music played over and over again with different faces. Do they have any like'',spacey progressive instrumental type stuff? ''Anything instrumental i like.''lol ''Or is it just good song writing'' like the ''best of bread'? .LMAO!. I do like the band bread. hA! '' Give a song title?
@dannyhood66 Well, if you like 70's prog rock, it gets no better than Camel. I'd start with lunar sea, or song within a song, for "spacey" instrumentals. Song writing wasn't their forte, more virtuoso instrumentalists.
So you go from "shredding" to bread? Shows a wide range of musical taste! BTW-I like bread but never admitted it!
@whisky2roxy Camel! No shit? ''What about "Kansas"man? And believe me'' i did not realize how much progressive shit they had.'' Dream theater is the newer prog rock ''i guess''? At least that is what they say?Supposedly their sound is the new Kansas,''I only heard that a few times LA rummer since 91..Then i think dream theater had to listen to these guys? I'll check the songs out you mentioned,'' And i will give a totally full blown opinionated youtube report on what i think about camel. !aH
Doesn't get better than this. One of the great romantic songs sung by Richard Sinclair with Camel music. Powerful combo that plays forever. Thanks camelandu2. I have all of Camel's music and have seen them twice in California. RIP Peter and get well Andy.
Nice comment, nice to see that level of appreciation and sensitivity to this lovely daydream and floating track... all the way back to the days of '77
Great pictures Anton. I love the sound of the fretless bass. You gotta love the double neck S.G. I ran sound for a band where the guitar player had a double neck S. G. and the singer would always hold it up and say "This guy has an eleven hundred dollar guitar and he only uses it on one song!" (that song was "Stairway To Heaven") $1,100 was a lot of money back in the late 70's!
Thanks Rick! Yeah, the fretless sounds great. It's kind of special that the guitarist play it on this studio version. The S.G. is great, and I can promise you, Andy used it for more than one song! :-D
Thanks Anton, Really nice montage of photos..some I've never seen before now.If ever there was a song Camel should have scored a # 1 in the States, I thought it was this. At the time ,10 cc had a huge hit with "I'm Not In Love" and it is eerily similar IMO.
Yes, it took me all of three years to find those pictures. This may be one of Camels more "hitlike" songs, and it's still great. And I agree with you, quite similar! Hope you got my mail!
