A couple of nice English folks (see below) helped me understand that with some intra-London accents area or regions are discernible. I'm an American interested in... but mostly unaware of these language nuances.

After she'd just spoken a couple of words Simon asked her where she was from. When she says "Dagenham" he reacted (jokingly) like it was overly obvious. Can Londoners tell the exact area other Londoners are from by their dialect or accent?

@euqip Dagenham is famous for almost nothing apart from the old Ford Motor company, and once being the largest public housing project in Europe. Famous people from Dagenham are few and far between. Two you might know are Dudley Moore and Sandie Shaw. The accent isn't too different from the rest of London and is what we would call 'estuary english'. Stacys accent was as broad an example as you might find anywhere which is probably why SC gave the reaction he did.

English accents vary so much you might have some fun browsing youtube.I'm from Carlisle,(county of Cumbria) a tiny city in the very north of England, the local accent is really hard to understand even for me. There's also a rural/urban split with accents here, for example A Newcastle accent(known as "Geordie") is different from rural Northumbria. Look up Teeside Tintinon YT if you don't mind rude dubs of classic cartoons!

@euqip Don't forget the Welsh! So many Americans I've met don't seem to have heard of Wales when I tell them I'm part Welsh! Welsh has it's own language and is a bilingual country. Other parts of the UK also have their own languages. Cornish died out but has been revived. The Isle of Man has Manx (not UK but British), Scotland has BBC Alba that broadcasts all in Gaelic. :)
