  • @LovelyLolaX I started at 13, now at 14 and a half Im en pointe and taking my grade 6 RAD, its never to late to go for your dreams! but don't hold back, you waste a lot of time thinking about whether your too old or not, so just go for it.

  • The movie is very interesting for students. They can undestand wath is the work about ballet dance, but, in principal way, it couold be a good istrutions mind.

    XXXX

  • @LovelyLolaX 12 is not too old! And you can aim to be a professional, too, if you show the potential. Just start taking some classes and see how it goes. If it feels like something you want pursue, you can audition for ballet schools. It will be harder starting later, but you will have the maturity to work very hard because you have chosen this for yourself. Good luck and have fun!

  • @panyatna thank you for helping me!<3

  • @LovelyLolaX they told me i was too old when i was 12 :/ also said i have all predispositions and if i came few years earlier i would be really good...it all depends of studio/school

  • @LovelyLolaX I started dance at 18. You are never too old to start dance. For two months, I took 6 different styles of dance a week. Now I only take 3, but I love it! I am starting pointe this month and I have only been taking for 6 months. If you love it and have a passion for it, go for it. You can do anything you set your mind to!

  • @LovelyLolaX hello I started at 26! its never too old plus you are still young enough just practice practice practice! cheers.

  • @LovelyLolaX You may have to get training at a local studio first, or private lessons. Pre-professional schools rarely let in anyone above 10 years old who has no training. By 11, they expect you to know some amount of ballet. But start now, so you'll be able to catch up!

  • @LovelyLolaX

Well I guess, that you really MUST go to this fantastic world that is the dance, Regardless of Age, aaaaa, and point out to study the Method Royal Ballet! Very Good!

  • I'm 16. I made it to level 5 pointe work before my knee was dislocated during practice, July of 2010. It was awful when I was told I could never dance again well correctly without pain. anyway I still at least have my piano.

  • amazing!

  • beautiul!

  • I'm 16..what I'd give to turn the clock back and start ballet...

  • @LoveIndigo678 According to my old instructor you are never to old to start. As long as you are not expecting to have a professional career.

  • I was i class whit Nina! She is awesome !!!

  • di das vic anmeturei donvaghen tweighk se navifh ur jeiv?

  • I'm 16 and only studying RAD... Is it too late to train professionally? :(

  • the maroon tutu and the white tutu are lovely. I really wish to wear that someday :(

  • i miss GYROTONIC in their Gym.

  • It's in Dutch! I am Dutch!

  • @hnbballerina It's in Belgian!!!! I am Dutch too!!!

  • nossa, eu não entendi absolutamente nada :S

  • hola. el video me ha encantado pero me gustaria entenderlo ya que soy española...¿ no hay el mismo video pero subtitulado?

  • @JLepsch

So...your saying I could be a ballerina soon? Im almost 13...I do ballet and my Form teacher in school is the damce teacher,im the only dancer in my class anymore...and I am dying to be great!

  • @MikuHatsune1311 You'll need a great teacher, because you have little time left so you can't spend it with bad training. Also, read angelbaby233's reply: you need good turn out and feet. If you already do ballet then I assume you have those. Now hurry up and good luck! Remember, ballet is difficult, but not impossible. :)

  • @MikuHatsune1311

Please remember though why you want to be 'great'. You shouldn't shoot to be a professional ballet dancer for attention - you MUST have a flaming passion for the art form. The life of a professional dancer requires many, many sacrifices, and in the end you might end up injured. Unless you are built for ballet, have loads of talent and get into a good school, going pro is very slim. But take up ballet if you want to - you build strength, artistry and it's loads of fun!

  • They're both Belgian, and they teach you RAD there ;-)

  • do they teach you RAD or Russian?

  • Is Nina still a student at the school?

  • @Elisheva009

yes, she is in my class. :)

  • @SammiaMei wow, what's it like there?

  • Where is Nina from?

  • @Katytherubixcube1

    she is from Belgium :-)

  • @onetakeemma

I though she was from the Netherlands!! o.O

    Didn't she speak dutch??

  • @chocolatefan1711 it's belgian i think, listening to the dialect:P

  • @wiccafawna There is no belgian ;p it's Flemish

  • @Katytherubixcube1 She's from Belgium!

  • Wow, there are very good!

  • Oei. Ik ben door. xD

  • she started when she was 12? , I'm around twelve now and i want to start, do you know if thats possible in some schools?

  • @SoAdoreblyClueless

Not only you can start now but you can also achieve to be a professional. There are some prima ballerinas who started at the age of 14. Look for a good ballet school, with well experienced teachers. It makes big difference. Don't let them put you in adult classes though. Adult classes are more an entertainment than real ballet teaching (I only say ithat because I'm an adult student). Unless you're willing to do ballet just for fun. =)

  • @JLepsch but realistically you would only achieve professional status starting that late if you get put into a very good ballet school and also have great turnout and feet, Misty Coopland and Sulvive Gullium started late, but look at their bodies, they were built for ballet, and they started studying with very good teachers in top ballet schools

  • The girl in 0:35 called Nina,it surprised me as ive just watched'Black Swam'and the main character is called Nina too~

  • @yoyashi Same here

  • Anyone know what the name of the song in the beginning of the video and the music that touches the munutes 2:50 of this video ????? Thanks.

  • @cidinhatrix The song at the beginning is 'Le Secret' by Léonard Gautier. Don't know about the second!

  • @pickledlettuce Thank you very much!!

  • @cidinhatrix No problem, it was such a pleasure going through my old piano book :) btw it was subtitled 'A Study In Staccato' so i thought the pace here was a little slow. hehe.

  • man 4:28 whats wrong with the guy at the back

  • tako su slatke....boze....medene su.......

  • any chance you could put subtitles on it ?

  • @twinkletoejam

Commentator (describing the image of the school):

"The Royal Ballet School in the heart of London. One of the most exclusive schools in the world. Young ballet dancers are prepared for a life full of pliés, lifts, and pirouettes here. The new joiners (this year) include the sixteen year-old Nina Tomoli (sp?) from Gent."

    Nina:

"When I was 12, 11, 12 years old I joined the Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, where I studied for four years. Meanwhile I aso did summer schools here...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... in London. I did an audition (for full time) during the second summer school, and that's really how I got in (to the Royal Ballet School). I didn't expect it at all, I was really like; oh! I'm through! what now? So first I called my mum, and she also thought; oh! She's through! So it was a shock, really. But afterwards it did start to sink in; it was really quite chic and a great opportunity."

    Commentator:

"Three years ago Sander Blommaert, 17, from Brugge, was also...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... noticed during a summer school here in London. He was completely surprised, as only the best get in."

    Sander:

"It is really an honour to dance here. There is a link with the Royal Ballet, so this is the school of the Royal Ballet and the Royal Ballet is such a big company, everyone in the world knows about the Royal Ballet, all the best dancers dance here, so... I'm constantly busy with everything that has to do with this, my nutrition, my appearance is important, and...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... yeah... I constantly need to do exercises, after school, before school, all day, really, so when I think about something, it usually has to do with ballet."

    Commentator:

"Classical (ballet) and modern (contemporary), solos, and repertoire (repertory); from morning till evening people dance here. For the girls there is even a special class, completely devoted to the dancing on the tips of your toes; pointe exercises, in ballet jargon."

    Nina:

    "Pointes (pointes shoes)...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... are actually shoes that are hardened at the front, on which the entire company dances almost constantly. Pointe exercises really teach you to become stronger, so that you learn to stand securely in your pointes, so that you don't {fall off your pointe/twist your ankle}, and that's very important."

    (Teacher speaks)

    Nina:

"It's strict, but they really just ask for a lot of disipline, it's also that you know that you work for yourself and that you need to take in...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... corrections for yourself. You know this yourself too, and they'll definitely never yell at you or something."

    Commentator:

"There are also separate exercises for boys here. For example, the upper body class to train upper arms and shoulders, because a good dancer needs to be able to life his partner effortlessly."

    ...

I will post the rest later, as I'm going to bed now. I'll post after I open y Christmas presents, maybe :) Merry Christmas!

  • @issyballet95 Thank you so much for the time you have taken to translate! :D

  • @panyatna You're welcome, I'm doing the rest now, but I'll need to wait (quite a while) for the video to download, haha! :D

  • @twinkletoejam

Sorry, but I can't really understand what Sander says, but what I did hear was something about a bodybuilder and two dancers next two each other. Then he says that even if a guy doesn't visibly have all muscles he can still lift. Sorry, there's lots of background noise, but the next thing he's talking about constantly looking at his figure in the mirror, something about nutrition as well I think... I'm really sorry, I honestly can't hear what he says, and on top of that he's...

  • @twinkletoejam

    ... speaking Flemish-ish. So sorry :(

    Commentator:

"But all that striving for perfection does have its price. If you want to study at the Royal Ballet School, you will need money. Lots of money."

    Nina:

"It's something of about €30,000 per term, so when my parents found out I could come to London they were really quite shocked; they didn't really know what was happening to them. I didn't really know either, but I got a chance to get a scholarship, so that was very...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... different already. If I'm going through a difficult/tiring period at school I do think I'd rather be lying in my bed at home with my family. Before the Christmas holidays, after some 8 weeks of dancing, I do feel I really need to push myself to still give my all, so that's also quite a difficult period."

    Commentator:

"Nina boards while in London, but the cameras aren't welcome there. It is allowed to film in Sander's home. As a third-year, he (the commentator uses a...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... phrase which kind of specifically refers to sharing an apartment/having flatmates) shares an apartment with some other dancers."

    Sander:

"Everyone is here without parents or family so we're quite close because of that. I have a twin brother, so that is something I miss. Also my parents, I know they do so much for me but I don't see them that often. And my youth actually happened outside of my home. From when I was ten I was in Antwerp (Royal Ballet School of Flanders...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... is in Antwerp) and from age 15 I've been here in London, so I've never had the youth (teenage years) that most people have."

    Commentator:

"Nina also lives on duty to ballet here. (Okay, that was a seriously bad sentence, but he means her life is completely devoted to ballet). She doesn't have nearly enough time for hobbies and relaxation."

    Nina:

"It's quite tiring/difficult, they're long hours; you start at 9:00 and you usually work until 5:30. I do about 40 hours of...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... dance during the week. Of course I also French for two hours each week, but it's mostly dancing."

    (Teacher speaks)

    Commentator:

"They're also happy with Sander (Sander's progress) here. He's already been offered a contract with the Royal Ballet of England. However, he also feels the pressure to achieve/accomplish/perform."

    Sander:

"Of course you're kind of friends with everyone in the first two years, but in the final year with all the auditions and people also come...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... watch you in class, for example in pas de deux, and of course everyone is doing there best dancing, and they also want to look good, so yeah, there's a lot of competition, especially now in the final year, you can feel that there's some friction."

    Nina:

"You have this goal to become a star/famous dancer, it's your greatest ambition, and you work to achieve this during the lessons, and (I think she says this, again, it's her Flemish-ishness) I think about what I want to...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... achieve when I feel I'm not putting in as much effort as I could be. (Speaking about the tutu she's fitting, while looking in the mirror). This makes me think of those big stars dancing in Swan Lake for example, or those other great ballets. I'd love to do that as well, especially in this beautiful tutu. Yeah... that's... my dream..."

    Sander:

"I'd really like to dance the prince-roles, like The Nutcracker, or Sleeping Beauty, or some of those big ballets that are...

  • @twinkletoejam

"... well-known, and that attracts a big audience, and once you do one of those roles the audience recognises you and come back for another performance to see that specific person dancing... Yeah, that'smy dream really... To become (a) famous (dancer)."

    The End. :)

I hope this helps, sorry for the bits I couldn't translate for you guys, I blame it on their Flemish-ishness and those exercising boys in the gym! :D
