Bmr is the caloric amount needed to sustain a comatose body state, for eg during sleep. We can burn up to 400 cals just walking, talking, thinking, climbing stairs, running for the bus etc. It's the TDEE that needs addressing in regards to subtracting calorie deficits. Using the BMR would cause an even lower calorie deficit which might lower the metabolism more than they'd like.
Eating below BMR sounds dangerous, wouldn't eating less than your body requires for basic functions impair those same functions? Im not a nutritionist but its common sense, surely the point is to advise people to lose weight safely?
@norbarellis Your body is metabolically flexible. If your body is not getting the energy it needs from food, it will use body fat for energy. This results in fat loss. This fat loss will continue as long as you eat less calories than you burn. The only time this becomes unsafe is when you have depleted ALL your fat stores and your body begins breaking down lean tissue (starvation).
By that example, those who have been eating above 1800 and reduce by any amount will also see a reduction in their weight. Someone eating 2300 and switching to 1800 will lose down to the weight that is sustained by consuming 1800.
Give me fuel give me fire give that which I desire!!!! Ohhh yeaaah yeah!
