Dips are supposed to be great in helping your bench improve. But i really wouldn't know as i never really do any benching. Dips are a better excersise for the upper body as far as i'm concernd. Stick wuth them, and you'll do well!
@becful21, Try bent over barbell rows or incline rows - both work in the opposite motion to the the bench when performed correctly and apparently increase your bench.
Great Job. Can you check out my video and make sure I am not going to low. I have now moved up to 135lbs x 5 and do not want to mess myself up.I weigh 162lbs and my goal is to some day match my weight.
Your dip form looks great to me, as long as your not getting any pain, there's no reason to think you'll injure yourself. Keep up the good work, and good luck with your goal, bodyweight for reps would be an awesome achievment!
Nice lift as usual. BTW, what is your height/weight. I train similar to you. Right now, all I do are Dips, Pulldowns, Squats, and Stiff-Legged Deads. I'm suffering from some shoulder/rotator cuff problem. How are your shoulders holding up?
Thanks mike. Never had a problem with shoulders since doing wrighted dips (unlike bench pressing). do you do any isolation work on your rota cuff?
If not, you should, it's very important for shoulder health and is often overlooked by most people. Three sets a week of standing lat flyes does the job for me. How is your form on the dips? You may be going to deep, post up a vid if you can.
I'll try some rotator work. What's a standing lat fly? The one rotator exercise I know of - you lie on a bench, sideways, elbow at 90 degrees (your arm is shaped like an "L"). And then you do sort of a backwards arm wrestling motion.
it's the same excersise as the lying lat only your standing resting your arm on a bench or bar,(like you were about to arm wrestle someone). But the lying version as you described does the job just as well.
yo pkrayne- does the p stand for prick by any chance? you cocksucker- your a pussy- wheres your videos if you no so much? ill pinchgrip your neck ya gets me! you fanny, skinny prick!
bet you dream of picking up that kind of weight dont ya! prick fuck you wee little fucker!
That is the safe full ROM for my particular bodytype. Why would i risk a shoulder injury to try and please an uneducated internet prick like yourself.
I'm not being a prick at all. Your body will adapt and it won't feel uncomfortable after a few sessions with full ROM. Anyone can do full ROM, it's the human body, you aren't a different mammal.
Then please show me a video of safe full ROM. Everyone seems to have there own ideas of what is safe or not, only i know how my body feels, and from what i have read and learnt, this is deep enough. And i didn't just pile the weight on. I went from 51kgs to 60 in around 7 months, thats hardly pilling it on is it?
its like some people can't do rock bottom squats but can go way past parallel, does this mean that there form is wrong...no I don't thing so.....why don't you show us some of your vids...see how well you do dips....stop chatting shit and fuck off.......come back when you know a thing or two, about lifting weights.....
LOL, obviously it's you who doesn't seem to know about lifting weights when you think that full ROM isn't achievable for everyone. It's just a flexibility issue and ego is getting in the way of fixing the problem.
Are you an expert in weight training, why do you think that every person can go to full rang motion? You think it's a flexibility issues (in some cases it is) when clearly its not. His movement for that exercise is good for his body type; he is making gains with good form with no injuries, why don't you show me and others, how to do them properly as you know so much about weighted dips...
dude most people including me can barely touch my hand to my shoulder while sitting in a chair. Lets see your vids so we can all see how its properly done...
Dude, this is not good ROM at all. He is only going to 90 degrees. The shoulders should almost make contact with the with the hands. This is just like people doing half squats instead of full squats. They're just doing it to boost their egos and use larger weights.
Why is "only going to 90 degrees" not good ROM? ROM is always relative to people's flexibility, first and foremost.
Additionally, I would say going to 90 degrees on a fixed width dip station (versus gymnastic rings, where the width is NOT fixed, and you can bring them in closer) is probably much safer for the average joe than your suggestion.
Well to be honest, his form is very good, like squats you have to break parallel, which is just below 90 degrees. Which he is clearly doing, so in this case form is not an issue. As I have read his comments, it is clearly safe for him to stop at just below parallel, due to an injury in the past. Not every body can go way down, so that there arms are touching there forearms, this is down to different body types,
a yo ipeters, donyt make me start prick! u sond a realy jealous sort of gay- what the mattere did your misses love the video?if the mans liftin what hes liftin whats he got to prove to anyone hes lyin u nobrott? big up jamspastic--the real shit dogg!!!!
m8 u kno that is not 60kg, u have 2 twenty plates, y lie and pass it off as 60 and please dont even try to say u have special 30 plates as one of ur plates is blue and blue plates are always 20s
Oi knob head, I know this guy personally and I can tell you now, this is 60kgs....the blue plate is a Olympic rubber 20 kgs plate....and he has 2 x cast iron 20kg plates...look at the vid again you must need glasses or you must be very jealous....and if you think this is not of true likeness then why have you add it as a favourite?...stop chatting shit.....
Perhaps your right, I could have gone a fraction lower I supose, but I was just being Cautious as my shoulders are quite tight in this movement. However, that doesn't change the fact that not one of your squats were near to parallel, and deleting my comment just shows how ignorant you are. Your form is still cack in most of your movements and it will never change.
Excellent control your well on your way to your goal, I know it must be a long slow process, and your trying to get 3 sets of the same weight....60kg x 5 x 3sets.....well that's a challenge of it's own....very impressive!!!!!!!! Good form and control...keep up the good work......
Cheer's Raj, it's took me alomst 6 months just to get from 51kg to 60kg!! I would rather build up slowly though, in the long run it's better, and the small weights added soon turn to big ones! Going for 70kg for 3 sets of 5 next!
that is really impressive cant wait to get up to that stage. atm im at 25kg

sharni007 4 years ago
Just drop the weight to 45kg and do full ROM. There's no point in piling the weight on, just go deeper instead.

I would have to say his ROM is pretty good. Are we watching the same video?
There are a LOT of people doing half dips, but imho, he's hitting a good depth.
To the person who posted the video: very nice, and keep up the good work.
